Dogs in hotels

SlouchyBeanie · 07/03/2026 19:51

Staying in a chain hotel. Just seen two lots of dogs being taken to stay in a room. One lot was 2 spaniels, the other was a sausage dog and a bigger one I can't identify. I mean, what the fuck!?? I'm allergic to dogs and how do I know if there's been one in my room? Easy, I feel a bit unwell. Am I completely alone in thinking dogs have no business being in hotels and their owners are shit owners to imagine their dogs would enjoy this sort of experience. As I type, a third one has arrived, a terrier looking thing. I'm totally gobsmacked at the number of dogs in this hotel and find it unacceptable. I feel quite fired up about this at the moment, probably made worse by the barking and yapping I can hear. So am I being unreasonable that dogs should not be allowed in hotels?

Surely dogs don’t sleep on beds even in pet-friendly hotels? I thought most places had a no dogs on furniture rule.

If you really think most people pay the slightest bit of attention to that, you're incredibly naive.

If a dog sleeps on the bed at home, they'll do it at a hotel.

A good business listens to ALL of their customers. It doesn’t matter how unhygienic or dangerous it is in some cases for people with allergies, these businesses only see the money opportunities. As I said, I vote with my feet.

They may listen, but they'll go with the majority. Allowing dogs / not allowing dogs, whether in hotels , cafes etc is a black and white issue - you either please those who want to have dogs or those who don't - you can;t satisfy both.

You're right, our dogs are usually in the bed. They like to be warm under covers.

That’s disgusting in a hotel and against any policy I’ve seen.

Hope they catch you and throw you out next time.

Do what you like in your own home.

No more disgusting than humans fucking and leaving their bodily fluids all over the covers.

There's absolutely no need for dogs to stay in hotels. They're animals, if you have to take them with you somewhere they can stay in the car overnight with a window cracked open, it won't kill them.
I recently went on a city break, was about to book a really nice independent hotel when I read the bit of the website that said they were dog friendly. So the chain hotel that did not allow dogs got my business instead.

Yup you can stay in the car and avoid all dogs. Won't kill you.

Also the dog is a lot more likely to be stolen from an unattended car than you are.

I think you would be shocked as to what goes on in hotel rooms. Have you ever worked in one? I have, when I was at uni. The hotel industry is full of shocking things….dogs in beds wouldn’t make the top 100 list. 😳

but I don't want 200 anonymous dogs arses wiped on that blanket thing on the end of the bed and cushions that definitely aren't changed between customers in most hotels

Tbh if you're especially adverse to the idea of germs, no hotel at all is probably the only option.

The cushions in dog free rooms may not have dogs arse on them but they're just as likely to have human shit, spit, piss or spunk on them.

It's true that hotel cushions and throws are potentially disgusting, dogs aren't necessarily the main problem there.

LakieLady · 07/03/2026 20:27

Around a third of UK households include a dog. That's a pretty big chunk of the market for hotels to turn away.

As long as they have rooms that are guaranteed pet-free for those with allergies, and don't allow dogs in the restaurant, I don't see the problem.

At least a dog isn't going to shit in the kettle.

Revolting but true. I had no idea about the number of people who…boil their underwear in a hotel kettle 🤮🤮🤮 I’ve never used one since!

Oh God yes, I would never make a coffee in one of those...bleurgh!

OhBettyCalmDown · 07/03/2026 20:32

YABU. Most pet friendly hotels advertise as such and they only allow pets in certain rooms. If you have an allergy or this is a big issue you should check with the hotel before you book. There are still plenty of hotels available that don’t accept pets

CommentHere · 07/03/2026 20:33

A colleague had a list of pet friendly hotels and cafes. I was delighted with it as I knew which establishments to avoid!

I really dislike dogs in hotels, I don't like dogs in general so I'm not going to give a balanced view but yanbu.

When I worked in a hotel years ago, I found used condoms in a kettle on a couple of occasions. 🤮 Dogs really aren’t the issue.

@MakeYourOwnSunshine are you serious? I don't really understand the need for pets to be everywhere but NO - you cannot leave a dog in a car with the window cracked open. Do you live in the real world?

Has the hotel got over it yet? They must be devastated at their loss of you! #thoughts and prayers for the hotel staff..

You forgot bogeys, sick and blood.

If people knew what staff find in hotel rooms they would never stay in them.
I worked my way through college doing housekeeping in a city centre hotel.
So many choice finds - dildos, shat underwear in the bed, used tampons, full condoms. Worst find ever was false teeth in the kettle.

Edited to add, they were human's teeth, not dogs.

Yes I believe they make the dogs read and sign all policies.

Frequency · 07/03/2026 20:39

Why did you stay in a dog-friendly hotel if you hate them so much?

That's very odd.

I don't go away a lot so quite honestly I forget that dogs are staying in hotels too.

I like dogs. I will pet dogs, with permission from the owner, when out and about. But I don't want to stay in a hotel with them so to speak.

As if dog owners would abide by that!

My friend left a violent situation.. She wouldn't have gone if a certain lodge hadn't allowed her ddog.

She's getting a hard time because she chose a dog friendly hotel and is now bitching about it.
