Am I being unreasonable in that I can never find the perfect pillow!

Even when I sleep somewhere, and look at the exact pillow, and buy the same thing, it never seems to be the same, so I’m asking for help, can anyone hit me with your perfect pillow suggestions?

… and yes, I understand they are individual! But I’m looking for something that’s plump but soft, and keeps it shape.

Also, does anybody else really struggle to get the perfect pillow?

I haven’t had a baby for over two years but I still cannot sleep comfortably without my giant U shaped maternity pillow. Side sleeper, one arm underneath the curved top, one leg of the U behind my back, the other leg of the U between my legs - perfect!

SunnyspellsandScatteredshowers · 05/03/2026 20:48

I have found my people. All my family make fun of me for having six pillows. Sometimes I use each one of them during the night, trying to get comfortable. Most nights I just use two - I start with a lovely soft yet supportive bamboo one I found in tk maxx, then switch to a firmer IKEA memory foam one. I can get terrible headaches if my pillow isn't right so I've spent years trying to find the perfect one. I'm finally happy with these

NoAddedSugarr · 05/03/2026 20:49

I have tried so many pillows, premier inn, latex ones, buckwheat, cheap, expensive, literally spent hundreds.
I have found my perfect one.
From JYSK Memory foam contour pillow Wellpir Husnes. It is bamboo with 3 layers. I took 2 out and its just perfect.

Well at long last I have found a post where I can feel smug. I may have little money, a tiny house, a crap job BUT I can rest my head anywhere, on any pillow or even no pillow and sleep. And I am post menopausal!

LaidToChuckies · 05/03/2026 21:08

The Woolroom Deluxe pillow. A total game changer. It's currently 30% off.

I have simba hybrid pillows (free with mattress 8 years ago). They are brilliant and washable.

I bought some shredded memory foam filled pillows which are soft yet keep their shape, might be worth a go?

The tempur pillows were a game changer for me. It took about a week to get used to it, during which time I thought I’d made a very costly mistake, but after that there has been no going back.

I even take it on holiday (in UK) as I miss it and don’t sleep as well with anything else. They now do a cool version which is great in the summer to keep you cool (husband loves it but I don’t like it in the winter as much)

TressiliansStone · 05/03/2026 21:25

I can add another post-menopausal pillow-related trauma: I can now only sleep on one side (thanks, hipHmm) and my ear has been getting rubbed red and painful.

However I don't just bring you a problem, I bring you a solution!

There is quite genuinely a company called Pillow With a Hole. Which sells... well, pillows with a hole.

Not cheap but mine's been a gamechanger.

The dunlopillo is the perfect pillow.

I used to swear by a dunlopillo but they changed them! I'm now using a Sainsbury's one which is similar but it needs replacing and I'm terrified I spend as much as I did last time trying to hunt down an early 2000s dunlopillo🤣

Azurearransea · 05/03/2026 21:37

The secret is two different kinds of pillows.

I use a Tempur pillow underneath with a goose down pillow on top.

The Tempur pillow provides the structure to your pillow mound and the Goose Down pillow the softness and comfort.

It gets more technical though, the Tempur pillow has to be at a 45 degree angle tucked under your neck to give it support and then the Down pillow is used to fill in all the gaps.

Its taken me decades to work this all out and I would fight to the death if someone tried to steal my pillows. I even take them on holiday with me (UK) a travel Tempur, with a Down pillow sucked up small in a vacuum bag.

🤣😂🤣😂

nagnagnag · 05/03/2026 21:37

Latex pillows are the best - expensive but worth it.

Solost92 · 05/03/2026 21:41

I like a very thick firm pillow. I bought a pack of two that are zippered so you can remove the filling to adjust and I shoved all the filling into one. It was good for a few years but needs topping up. I hate that sinking in feeling when it goes up around your face and I have cptsd so I kinda sleep quite upright as I can't fully relax as I need to feel alert.

We bought the premier inn pillows. DH has the firm and I have the soft. https://www.premierinnathome.com/premier-inn-luxury-pillows.html

Same! Love these pillows and I’ve had all the pillows over the years.

100% recommend

CharlotteFlax · 05/03/2026 22:07

My favourite pillow was from M&S about 25 years ago. I can't tell you any more than that, other than it was synthetic, not feather or down. Never managed to replicate it.

DareDevil223 · 05/03/2026 22:16

I'm a side sleeper and I hate fluffy soft pillows. I like hard, flat ones. I have an Emma Adapt pillow that has layers so you can adjust the height. I take one layer out and it's perfect for me, so comfortable and such a relief after buying so many pillows that I hated!

We have a pair of these and agree they're fab. Our second pair (which we actually bought first) are also goose down from TK Maxx. They were £100 each (RRP £400). Finally we're happy with our pillows after trying soooo many over the years!

Yep, goosedown all the way! So comfy but supportive enough, I feel I’ve found the holy grail

Fluffywabbits · 05/03/2026 22:33

Same here. Spent an absolute fortune on all sorts of pillows including expensive goose down ones from John Lewis.

I ended up buying Premier Inn firm ones from the PI website. They're made by silentnight but I've found them much better than any of the many silentnight ones I've bought elsewhere. They're among the cheapest of the pillows I've tried too but work well as someone who alternates between side and back sleeping during the night. No more shoulder pain after about a year of ache!

This has been my lifelong search
Marks and Spencer Duck feather and Down
£39.50
One set firm one set medium
Heaven

I will second these (I haven't rtft so I'm sure others may have already)

Ophir · 05/03/2026 22:47

I did not like the premier inn ones

landlordhell · 05/03/2026 22:51

I want a squishy, bouncy pillow. I like 2. They always turn into pancakes. I worry about down as some birds are live- plucked .Check for responsible production!

Oh I do! Going to order them now. Thanks PP!

Does anyone know where to buy a cheap thin pillow? Just a normal pillow, nothing fancy, but thin.

I have an orthopedic pillow which I love, and under it I have a thin normal pillow, around 5cm thick, which makes the height perfect. All good. But DH is jealous of my thin pillow and would like similar for his setup. When I look for thin pillows, I can find memory foam ones and expensive ones with special features, but really the requirement is just for a basic thin pillow, and I can't find it.
