Pillow, pillows, PILLOWS!

Am I being unreasonable in that I can never find the perfect pillow!

Even when I sleep somewhere, and look at the exact pillow, and buy the same thing, it never seems to be the same, so I’m asking for help, can anyone hit me with your perfect pillow suggestions?

… and yes, I understand they are individual! But I’m looking for something that’s plump but soft, and keeps it shape.

Also, does anybody else really struggle to get the perfect pillow?

I was sceptical but this has been an absolute game changer and has even stopped me grinding my teeth as I’ve relaxed when sleeping, we’ve bought extra cubes from Amazon and it’s brilliant

Another one with a tempur cloud pillow. It feels like a sack of sand (and just as heavy) but I really wouldn't be without it now.

I bought it about 4.5 years ago when I had a horrendous frozen shoulder and stiff neck. It took a few nights to get used to it I can't even begin to tell you what a difference it's made. And now dh has bought one after trying mine out.

They're a bit of an investment , but it's basically cost me 5p per night so far. A small price to pay in my book.

I've tried,so many pillows - I had a frozen shoulder, so if I sleep on my side with my shoulder hunched it niggles it. Feather pillows tend to flatten during the night so you wake up with your neck to one side and achey. I've found that a pillow with a central dip helps and I've got a memory foam one that helps a!ot and prevents neck ache, it it’s a bit long front to back and is a bit too firm, so still searching for the perfect one. Best of luck!

Could you please share you pillow? My shoulder has started freezing and I can't sleep the way my other, previously frozen, shoulder prefers at the moment so they are both aching 😔

Morepositivemum · 05/03/2026 23:53

For me it’s just a modern pillow thing. They just all seem too puffy!

toddlertoenail · 06/03/2026 00:03

I am peeved with my current replacement (like for like!) V pillow I got in December as it’s gone totally out of shape and unsupportive. Pained literally to buy another one this quick - I usually replace it every 6 months 🥴

JellyBeanSpring25 · 06/03/2026 00:08

This is the exact one I bought about 6-weeks ago and it’s fab! Sleep so much better, I was astonished. Only wish I could find a cover with the popper in to use while it’s in the wash.

I have been on a hunt for my perfect pillow for a least 10 years. I have spent a fortune o. Pillows which just aren’t right. Memory foam, wool, removable inserts, cervical pillow, sprung pillow, squishmallow pillow, water pillow. I get very bad neck pain which radiates to my shoulders and often turns into a migraine. I’m still searching…

PickAChew · 06/03/2026 00:40

I bought this one, last year. I stack it with a cheap, firmer pillow, when I need to. Feather and down no good for me, due to allergies.

Oh I have such a crunchy perimenopausal neck and shoulder pain! I shall scuttle off down this cervical pillow rabbit hole immediately.

I had a neck and shoulder injury and bought the most amazing neck pillow of Amazon. I took it to Australia for my holiday. So worth using the baggage room 😂Shall look for the make tomorrow.

Reading this all intently.

Fell down a pillow rabbit hole last year and almost bought this, which a few were recommendeding as an alternative to cervical pillows:

Wondering now if I should just go for it. My current pillow is ok-ish.

Loved mine, my only question was how often to replace them

Big family with 6 adults including sons girlfriend that now lives with him in our annex, 2 teens and 1 pre teen. All manner of side front, back, menopausal sleepers (that would be me) and I swear over the years I’ve spent a small fortune hunting the right pillows.

I believe I may have found them, I’ve recommend them to friends and family and so far everyone has loved them too.

They have different types to suit, I think we have pretty much most at home and they last beautifully, I do use pillow protectors though!

Soak & Sleep Soft As Down microfibre all the way; one soft/medium, one medium/firm.

After my brother had to have 18 months off work with a serious neck problem, his consultant recommended a memory foam pillow. I often had woken with a crick in my neck so I decided to try one. I bought a normal pillow shaped one from Dunelm, and for the first two nights I thought I had made a mistake. It felt hard and uncomfortable. Then all of a sudden it felt great. Now 15 years later the pillow is still like new(it has a removable washable cover) and if I go away I always take it with me . I haven’t had any problems with my neck since I had used it.

Wool pillows and duvet have been a game changer for me. Perfectly soft but supportive, never need plumping, snuggly and warm in winter but not too warm for summer. They do have a slightly sheepy smell, but I quit like it.

I have never found that elusive perfect pillow and I seem to be very sensitive to the wrong pillow. DH calls me the princess and the pea...

I am still on the hunt and in the meantime we have loft full of rejected pillows!

Sorry I can't be more help!

This is me! I will find a pillow I think is perfect, then within a few weeks my neck pain returns. It's so annoying, especially as no-one else I know seems to have these issues. I'm using a wool one at present, but it isn't perfect. The best ones were latex, but even those had to be replaced a lot earlier than the 'years' they are supposed to last.

My current pillow has that sheepy smell - I love it and am disappointed that it seems to be disappearing.🐑

Menopausal shoulder syndrome

I dont know a single woman my age without neck and shoulder pain .

I've had my neck pain since my late teens, menopause hasn't changed it.

DickieAnderson · 06/03/2026 03:44

I use V shaped pillows after a long and expensive search.
I have a feather one underneath but the V one is memory foam and was quite expensive.
It’s great for sleeping on my side or back and supports both.

I had to get my DP one after I went away for a spa break with a friend and he used mine and said he had the best sleep ever.

My DP went to see his family in his birth country for two weeks and I had several different friends who stayed over and used his pillow and have all loved it and bought one themselves!

The only drawback is my pillowcases never properly match my bedding and are just the same colour but that’s a small price to pay for the comfort they provide.

Silvers11 · 06/03/2026 04:38

'Soft as down' types which are box/walled in shape ( i.e they have two rows of stitching around the sides of the pillow with a gap of 8 -10 cms between the rows of stitching) . I need 10cm, but that can be difficult to get as a lot are 8cm or less. Currently using one from M & S (not the memory foam one, but the one with the cluster fibres) but need to get a new one soon!

I happened across silk filled pillows and took a punt, despite them being pricey.
I have an old whiplash injury and these have been a game changer.
Best pillow I have ever owned. I won't be going back to any other filling.

Panda - absolutely the best pillows. Your body does not want a soft pillow. Keep in mind it’s a combination of mattress and pillow - matching a pillow you’ve used elsewhere won’t be the same if the mattress is different.

I used to wake up with pillows rammed into the headboard so completely flat at the front and absolutely no support - periodically got neck issues. Found Panda pillows at Costco 10 years ago and cannot sleep without it now. Solid and supportive, doesn’t change shape overnight.
