Pillow, pillows, PILLOWS!

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 05/03/2026 19:31

Am I being unreasonable in that I can never find the perfect pillow!

Even when I sleep somewhere, and look at the exact pillow, and buy the same thing, it never seems to be the same, so I’m asking for help, can anyone hit me with your perfect pillow suggestions?

… and yes, I understand they are individual! But I’m looking for something that’s plump but soft, and keeps it shape.

Also, does anybody else really struggle to get the perfect pillow?

I struggle with chronic neck pain and also sleep like I’ve been decapitated according to DP
the comfiest pillows I’ve found are the premier inn firm pillows
I also have feather pillows from Amazon for the nights that I need a bit more support they let you sink in but sort of mould into the curves of my neck
I just don’t get on with memory foam pillows I think I move too much through the night

Menopausal shoulder syndrome

I dont know a single woman my age without neck and shoulder pain .

It's madness isn't it. Women are also surprised when I tell them it's hormonal. We are taught almost nothing about our own bodies and what to expect.

We bought the premier inn pillows. DH has the firm and I have the soft. https://www.premierinnathome.com/premier-inn-luxury-pillows.html

I wonder if these might work for me, what is soft Vs firm? I think I want soft but with support

JaneIves · 05/03/2026 19:59

Cervical pillow you say….. Well that’s in my Amazon basket, thanks!

The dunlopillo is the perfect pillow.

Agree. I’ve just bought a cheaper version and it is not quite as good. So get the proper ones. Worth the cost, honestly.

Shinyandnew1 · 05/03/2026 20:03

The Dunlopillo is the only pillow worth having. I had one as a teenager that I took to university with me from my parents and it lasted so well, I haven’t that long replaced it! I’ve bought one for DH and the kids recently and my parents still use them. I think they are sold as Relyon now. They are so comfortable.

Honestly , I wouldn’t waste money on any others.

I think its just minimised as normal aches and pains
Lets face it if it was men there would be a massive hoo-ha

CombatBarbie · 05/03/2026 20:04

Bamboo pillows i think fit your scope. I swopped all ours after kids kept stealing mine. Initially bought to deal with trauma sweats (similar to menopause night sweats)

They wash great too.

user593 · 05/03/2026 20:07

Devon Duvets wool pillows. You can remove the wool filling to get the perfect shape. Ours hold their shape very well. They have BOGOF from time to time.

Chinup100 · 05/03/2026 20:08

Dunlopillo latex pillow

Nincompoo · 05/03/2026 20:09

I’m a feather pillow person, one pilliow only that I can squish up. I used to have dreadful issues with my back until
I ditched one of my pillows and went fully fluffy.

I can never sleep in hotels because the pillows are always so bloody thick! Dh has a memory foam one that is like sleeping on a brick.

Petrolitis · 05/03/2026 20:09

If your budget stretches to a latex one, they're fab both yielding and supportive simultaneously and crucially unlike memory foam it isn't roasting hot. They're definitely the gold standard for menopausal necks.

I'm trialling an IKEA one at the moment too and finding it really good because it's high enough for me when I go to sleep on my side but doesn't strain my neck when I roll on my back, I think it's because it's quite shaped, iykwim. It has a double seam on the sides rather than a single one which helps it retain it's shape.

Pillows are so personal, it can be a real headache to find the right one

Tempur pillows. We recently bought Tempur mattresses (after a very expensive Simba mistake), and the pillows came with them.
They are very heavy and feel like bricks, but they get softer as you lie on them somehow. I would never have bought one, but they are absolutely amazing.

How's you get the discount.
Our Goose down pillows are getting a bit of 15yo.

GrateWay · 05/03/2026 20:16

Reading this all intently.

Fell down a pillow rabbit hole last year and almost bought this, which a few were recommendeding as an alternative to cervical pillows:

Wondering now if I should just go for it. My current pillow is ok-ish.

Buckwheat Hull-Filled Pillow, Standard Size

Supportive, breathable and made to last. Our standard eco-friendly buckwheat hull-filled pillow measures 70 × 44 × 14cm. Perfectly sized to fit UK pillowcases.

Hicupping · 05/03/2026 20:26

I got a decent pillow case, filled it with wool stuffing which is curly and super springy. Then put it in a padded cotton pillow protector. Fantastic filling, maintains its squishyness and is still supportive, and of course you can decide how much you want to put in. This is what I put in, no idea about this seller though it's just an example so you can see. The pillow protectors are 100% cotton.

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 05/03/2026 20:27

Thank you so much everyone!! So many pillows to look at and think about, I wish there was a way of having one for a month, and then returning it if you didn’t like it, and then I’d probably justify spending more on one.

I can't stand a memory foam pillow - too hard and make me sweat! We have used for years Healthbed Cooltex Latex Pillows - they come in low and high profile and we prefer low for sleeping. Doesn't matter which position I sleep in my neck and shoulders are fine in the morning. I spend most of the night on my side but do spend the last hour on my back (according to my husband- I wouldn't know as I'm asleep 😂). They are expensive but last a good number of years. I found them when hunting for something to replace our Dunlopillows which used to be great but the modern ones are so hard it's like sleeping on a rock.

Stepsdown · 05/03/2026 20:31

Years of struggle and pain led me to the Mediflow pillow. It has a water filled inset to create the perfect support for you. Transformational.
My chiropractor approved. Got mine from Amazon

We have a pair of these and agree they're fab. Our second pair (which we actually bought first) are also goose down from TK Maxx. They were £100 each (RRP £400). Finally we're happy with our pillows after trying soooo many over the years!

twilightcafe · 05/03/2026 20:36

Feather pillows only for me.
The synthetic ones don't mould themselves to my head and make me crick my neck.

Mumof2wifeof1crazytimes · 05/03/2026 20:40

Following as I can’t find the right pillow for me, going to research some of these.
