£40,000 per family to leave UK should be open to everyone

Labour Government to pay failed asylum seekers up to 40 grand per family to leave the UK (10 grand per person).

I want a piece of the action and considering it is taxpayer funded, it should be open to all.

This thread rates very highly on the goadiness scale.

That would be nice OP.
I’m going on holiday to Spain for a week, will that qualify?

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 05/03/2026 13:29

Well I think benefits paid to people who are sick should be open to all. I mean, it's not fair is it, just because I haven't got cancer or something I'm not entitled to extra money?

Listen to yourself you plonker.

GranolaBaker · 05/03/2026 13:31

That’s hilarious. I’m an immigrant (here legally, now have citizenship) but £40k would be enough to pay for all the hassle of relocating to my home country.

Maybe set up a Gofundme and share the link.

Sure. Just "change your mind" after a week.

I absolutely understand the logic here but I think it's going to go down like a ton of bricks

fartotheleftside · 05/03/2026 13:33

Sure. You’d have to agree to give up your citizenship and never come back though.

BatchCookBabe · 05/03/2026 13:33

I hear you @Ablondiebutagoody and I agree.

You won't get many supportive posts on here though. Many people will agree with you, but will be afraid to say so.

Surely they don't have a citizenship to give up since they have failed in their bid to obtain citizenship. They'll probably give the 40 grand to some people smugglers who will get them back over here in a boat.

ShetlandishMum · 05/03/2026 13:35

We just relocated to an EU country (dual citizenships) for better schools for our youngst child and better work for us - hilarius if goverment had paid us...

RollOnSunshine · 05/03/2026 13:36

Talk about pissing money into the wind to fix a problem that should not exist to begin with.

It’s because it costs the government £££ per year to house them. I can’t see how it would work for UK citizens even on benefits unless they were prepared to give up Uk passports

"Never come back" 😂

Isekaied · 05/03/2026 13:42

Isn't this just going to incentivise more people to come.

So they'll be given cash to leave?

I have no idea why it should cost us the taxpayer to host failed asylum seekers. Where's can I go and live in the world where taxpayers will pay to house me for nothing when I have no claim to live in that country?

It costs £158,000 per year to house a family of three in asylum accommodation, so 40k for a family of four to leave within a week, is extremely good value for the tax payer.

I’m talking to the OP, who wants it to be open to everyone

lazyarse123 · 05/03/2026 13:44

It's disgraceful. She's in parliament saying that failed asylum seekers should get a payment as an incentive to leave. If your claim has failed why would we pay to make you go?
We have thousands of homeless and families in hostels here, where is the help for them?
