Re Pete Hegseth, I think this military article is revealing about his mindset and the dangers of that (my bold):

At a Pentagon briefing on March 2, 2026, War Secretary Pete Hegseth used blunt language about how the United States would fight, saying there would be “no stupid rules of engagement,” “no politically correct wars,” and “no nation-building quagmire.”

Those remarks became a flashpoint because rules of engagement, or ROE, are not “vibes” or slogans. They are a formal control system that ties tactical force decisions to strategy, law, and escalation management. Human Rights Watchresponded the same day by warning that dismissing ROE in public can read as minimizing legal constraints that exist to protect civilians and keep operations compliant with the laws of war.
continued…..
The whole article is here.

One could argue, that Iran will rebuild with much a more modern military, as a result of these attacks, Russia and China will supply them, paid for by oil.

Plus given the on going and increasing attacks on oil facilities, the Iranians are not being degraded.

On the school, much of the information the US got, was given by the Israelis, who i genuinely believe, do not care about schools or children.

We know this from Gaza, Children, as best, were seen as collateral damage.

Yes ... one could also argue that if someone blew up my car it would be ok because I could buy a better one.

Also, wasn’t it Iran who supplied Russia with weapons (drones) and not the other way round?

Do you attract people who would blow up your car? is it likely?

As we can now see, the Iranian regime is alive n kicking, threats abound, which will be carried out, oil over $100 a barrel, shipping shut down, more attacks on the West and in particular, Israeli targets worldwide.

Once there is some sort of peace, the Iranians will rearm.

Well as a fairly uninformed person reading that thread to start catching up on the situation, @Twiglets1 has done an excellent job persuading me of the exact opposite of everything she has said.

Plenty of lows on this thread, some determined to defend the attacks in Iran, regardless of who dies, esp if there is any possibility of Israeli involvement.

Exactly.

Fancy not being able to debate something without wishing people to go to hell.

And others finding that ok ... hmm.

Interesting that your unedited post contains a personal attack on someone, then you took it out with editing.

You do realise personal attacks are wrong then.

Russian parts in Hezbollah drones. No reason why they wouldn’t sell to Iran also.

The war is proving very positive for Russia.
Great for them, not so great for Ukraine or Europe.

Yes I did clock that.

Maybe @Alexandra2001 is unaware people can still read edited posts.

Did i name anyone? if you feel the post was a personal attack, then report it.... editing is allowed....

I think @Twiglets1 any engagement is now over, you clearly do not want any genuine dialogue, your last replies to me show that.

Editing is allowed for spelling not for change of what you are saying.

At least you realised it was wrong and changed it. That's good 👍

So the US has lifted sanctions on Russian oil across the board.
Great for Russia. But the chance to boost Russian economy puts Europe/NATO at greater risk.

BBC Radio 4 “Today” programme.
1:38 minutes in they talk more about the strike on the girls’ school in Iran.

You hear the White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt say it is Iranian propaganda and ‘unfortunately the people in this room have fallen for it’.

To my mind this statement is a clue as to the US propaganda we must often be hearing.

Yes, agree with pp, this war is proving beneficial for Putin and Russia - absolutely baffled (as ever!) by Trump’s comments that Putin ‘wants to be helpful in the Middle East.’ Is Trump being played by both Netanyahu and Putin? Trump’s approach to Israel/Iran and Russia/Ukraine so very different.

And while the Middle East burns and this illegal, no-plan war has global impact, The White House social media posts are trivialising the attacks by comparing them to video games and Trump is dancing to the YMCA: indefensible.

BelleHathor · 13/03/2026 11:34

Trump needs Putin (or more accurately Russian Gas, Oil and Fertiliser) back in the market to be supplied due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Putin literally has the power to send the World's economies into the type of recession we've not seen since the 1920s.

Everything made depends on energy, food supplies depend on fertiliser.

Iran literally pressed the economic Nuclear button. People are not yet aware of the precarious situation that this war of choice by America and Israel has plunged the world into.

The Oil Crisis in the 1970s only lasted 6 months but it took decades for economies to recover (and some still have not).

Asia’s governments are scrambling to manage a fuel shortage caused by high oil prices and a closed Strait of Hormuz. Asia is particularly dependent on oil exports from the Middle East; Japan and South Korea respectively source 90% and 70% of their oil...

Asia rolls out four-day weeks and work-from-home as emergency measures to solve a fuel crisis caused by Iran war | Fortune

The energy crunch is forcing governments to adopt extreme measures to save fuel; in Thailand, government employees are being asked to take the stairs.

Are you able to quote all these people who are defending the Iranian regime and who think it's okay to murder their own people? If not, please stop throwing around accusations. You have a bad habit of doing this.

It's the old dishonest strawman of "You're not foursquare behind Trump, therefore, you love the Iranian regime." Most people grow out of it by the time they've left school.

I know. It's a nonsensical argument, if you can call it an argument.
Unfortunately, this pattern is a recurrent theme with that particular poster.
