Ok @Twiglets1 If you think this rhetoric from Hegseth-
" The only ones worried now should be Iranians who think they are going to live" - is ok, I don't really have anything more to say. But let's at least give up the pretence that this war is to save Iranian people. It's intended to decimate them.

Trump team's Iran war rhetoric fuels backlash

When the top US general spoke Tuesday of his "respect" for Iranian fighters, the remark underscored a striking divide between the restrained language of the military brass and the swaggering rhetoric…

There have been allegations about Hegseth's abuse of alcohol. His ex sister in law signed a sworn affidavit and have evidence of his abusive behaviour whilst married to her sister.

Yes, I've read that too.
My comment comes from just observing his behaviour and listening to his choice of language in his recent conferences. He strikes me as someone truly evil.

Hegseth has also said the war was never intended to be a " fair fight".
I am so tired of the US lecturing other nations about human rights.

Quite. With their track record, I'm surprised that anyone falls for it anymore.

'Nothing can bring the people of a country together like killing it's leadership and an existential threat'
I agree with this @SherlockStones. Many Iranians hate the regime but it doesn't follow that they want the US 'riding to the rescue' <hollow laugh>.
There is a good chance that this war was a catastrophic error for the US, ignoring all the other terrible results.

I don’t think that comment is ok.

The war is to decimate the Iranian regime not the Iranian people.

So many people defending the Iranian regime on this thread! I suppose you think iIt’s ok the way they murder their own people just for protesting?

How's decimating the regime going? A worse man in charge now.

No, am not going to rise to that deflection " You must be an apologist for the regime". Things have moved on since day 1. Nazanin Zaghari- Ratliffe and many other political prisoners have come out against the war. I guess they must be besties with the regime then.

The thing is though they were never going to truly decimate the Iran regime therefore bringing about regime change and the notion was incredibly foolish and lacking in foresight to begin with.

For that reason it's a failed war from the off, the only person that was stopping them from getting nukes was assassinated along with his family members which included grandchildren the youngest of which was 14 months old.

Now, his son who is reportedly didn't subscribe to his father's line of thinking is in power.

All this war has done is likely convince Iran that they now actually need nukes in the years to come in order for this to never happen again and who can blame them? Talk about a self fulfilling prophecy.

Decimating the regime is not a primary aim though since you ask, quite a lot of the top people in the regime have been killed. And now Iran have a cardboard cut out for a leader so that tells you something.

whereisitnow · 12/03/2026 10:56

This war won’t decimate the regime, unfortunately. It’s a mistake and will cost us all. It already is. It’ll make some people rich, though.

They've completely failed to decimate the regime so far so their primary objective, as stated by DJT on the first day the war.

Are you able to quote all these people who are defending the Iranian regime and who think it's okay to murder their own people? If not, please stop throwing around accusations. You have a bad habit of doing this.

It's not a "failed war from the off" because regime change was not the only or main goal of the war. The US and Israel have said that regime change needs to come from within and they have urged the Iranian people to rise up. Even if they do not feel able to do this right now, the regime has been weakened and that has to be a good thing for anyone who thinks they are evil.

There are many other goals that have already been mentioned. They are doing pretty well with achieving those. Though still have a long way to go so the outcome of the war is really not known yet.

I've asked you twice now to stop engaging with me due to personal attacks such as "you have a bad habit of doing this". I don't want to talk to you because of the way you do this every time.

This is the third time of asking you to leave me alone. Please respect it or I will consider it bullying.

Regime change was reportedly the main objective which was announced from the beginning.

What was the other objective? Because it doesn't seem like they had a real tangible plan and their own intelligence warned them over the taken course of action.

The regime hasn't been weakened either really and any knowledge of Iranian politics and how they've been preparing for over 20 years should have made that obvious. What's clear, however, is that Trump believed that they'd be able to make Iran capitulate from the initial strikes therefore allowing them to claim a quick "victory" like they managed with Venezuela.

And very easy to talk about 'evil' considering all the insidious things the US has done over the years which stretches to this day and also Israel committing mass genocide and destroying the lives of so many people now happening in Lebanon etc.

But Israel never did say regime change was a primary goal, it was more something that would be great if it did happen but they couldn't make happen. Many, many Iranians were begging for intervention remember (though more from Trump as the US is more powerful).

From the article you linked:

If Iran’s new leadership keeps its grip on power, the long-term measure of the success of the conflict may hang on the fate of 440kg of enriched uranium which was buried under a mountain by US strikes last June, former and serving Israeli defence and intelligence sources said. Enough for more than 10 nuclear warheads, Iran could use it to hasten the construction of a weapon if the material remains in the country.

“These 440kg of uranium are one of the clearest litmus tests for how this war ends, whether it is a success,” said one former senior Israeli defence and intelligence official who worked on Iran. “We need to be in a position where either this material is out of Iran, or you have a regime where you are confident that it is safeguarded [inside Iran] in a very meaningful way.”

Hardliners in Iran have long argued a nuclear deterrent is the only guarantee of survival for the Islamic republic. The overwhelming military dominance of US and Israeli forces in this war is likely to bolster that view if the regime survives.
The US is reportedly considering sending troops on a high-risk mission to secure the uranium. Negotiations before the war also included proposals for Iran to surrender the enriched uranium to another country.

Regime change was mentioned by Trump early on but it was always acknowledged to be something that had to be done from within Iran.

Other objectives:

One week into the war with Iran, the United States seems to have settled on four primary objectives: (1) destroying Iran’s navy; (2) destroying Iran’s missile capabilities; (3) preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons; and (4) preventing Iran from supporting proxy groups, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon or the Houthis in Yemen. Administration officials—notably President Trump in his initial remarks regarding the war—have hinted that regime change is also among their goals, but have consistently excluded this message in recent days.

I think the following makes it obvious that Netanyahu was pulling Trump's strings.

I completely agree. Hesgeth comes across as a psychopath to me.

Even his own mother despises him:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/nov/30/trump-defense-secretary-pick-pete-hegseth-mother-abuser-of-women

A 2018 email from Penelope Hegseth accused her son of routinely mistreating women and displaying a lack of character.

“You are an abuser of women – that is the ugly truth and I have no respect for any man that belittles, lies, cheats, sleeps around, and uses women for his own power and ego,” Penelope Hegseth wrote in the email obtained by the New York Times.

“You are that man (and have been for years) and as your mother, it pains me and embarrasses me to say that, but it is the sad, sad truth,” she added, advising her son to “get some help and take an honest look at yourself”.

He also notoriously told his subordinates to ignore the rules of war, in Afghanistan and Iraq. He said that murdering prisoners was good and that killing any number of civilians to get one suspected gunman was fine.

Well that cocked that up then, haven't they?

Killing a sickening amount of schoolchildren will mean the people will go along with such a idiotic and poorly thought out course of action of course.

Their so called "objectives" are not going to be met and Trump will either try and claim victory without actually achieving anything of the sort or he'll continue to drag the US to hell.

Either way Iran may choose go the nuclear arms route which means utter failure for Trump and Israel. Amazing strategic planning.

It's the old dishonest strawman of "You're not foursquare behind Trump, therefore, you love the Iranian regime." Most people grow out of it by the time they've left school.

TheignT · 12/03/2026 11:39

Trump said yesterday that they had won the war they just needed to decide when to stop. If you've won the war but are continuing to kill innocent civilians surely that's a war crime.

SinnerBoy · 12/03/2026 11:40
