Thanks for your post about what got you interested in Judaism. I started to become more and more interested in it early last year.
I then lost a close relative very suddenly, and by complete chance, I found the below Jewish prayer online, which I’ve learned is recited after someone dies:
God, full of compassion, who dwells on high, grant perfect rest beneath the sheltering wings of Your divine presence, among the holy and pure who shine as the brightness of the firmament, unto (insert name of the deceased) who has gone to his/her eternal home. Author of mercy, bring him/her under the shelter of Your wings and let his/her soul be bound up in the bonds of eternal life. May you be his/her inheritance and may his/her repose be in peace. Amen.
It brought me huge comfort at that time - and still does - even though I’m not Jewish and do not believe in God.
I’ve also got a lot of comfort from the words ‘may his/her memory be a blessing’, which I think is also often said in Judaism of someone who’s passed away.
