What’s the most unusual name a child in your kids class at school has had?
Almost every other child I know is called Harry, Theo, Leo, Olivia….would love to hear some unusual examples of names!

I quite like Lysander. Very Shakespeare.

Yes, I do too. It’s beautiful name to say and
obviously know the Shakespeare character but never come across it on a child before. But what initially stands out as an unusual name very quickly becomes usual when you know the child.

We have a large Hong Kong community here so the strangest names to my British ears would be things like Angela, Evangeline & Brian.

There are about 20 girls in my child's year group (KS1). They include an Autumn, Summer and Wynter which I think is just brilliant.

My niece has a very unusual name (it’s a family one) there were 6 I think in the UK in the year she was born. She’s just joined an after school club and someone has the same name!

Not many really. Very multicultural area so some that are unfamiliar but I think the most unusual ones in DD's year are Mercedes and Angel. There are 5 Nevaeh's though, which is funny considering how many people choose it because it is "unique".

The rest are usual run of the mill Harry, James, Olivia etc

ETA DD has what I consider to be a run of the mill name (think Charlotte or similar) and yet she is the only one in her year, definitely didnt expect that!

Not a child (although he would of course have been a baby at some point), but I once came across a Lancelot. Living in a council flat on one of our rougher estates.

Edited

I knew an Elvis growing up, and it was possibly a bit more odd then as this was just after he died and Elvis deification was at its height. But within a very short while it was just his name, and we didnt think about it again. Thats said, I think he did get bullied at senior school for it, poor kid.

Derbee · 01/03/2026 21:28

Birdie, Eric and Joa are the ones that spring to mind for me

PyongyangKipperbang · 01/03/2026 21:29

Skagg?!

As in Scag aka Heroin?!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/03/2026 21:32

Came across a baby Lark on a plane the other week.

Kicked lumps out of my seat the whole way back (as did his Dad with his knees!) so not endeared to the name 😂 Most oblivious to other people family I’ve yet come across - baby’s foot actually came through the seats and kicked me without a word of apology and both parents managed to almost swing of my seat back when they got up to the loo!

Didn’t say anything as we were surrounded by other middle-class millennial parents who all seemed sure their kids were the cutest thing ever born and we all wanted to see and hear from them, plus my teens hate it when I complain about things.

PyongyangKipperbang · 01/03/2026 21:34

Helen Georges kids are Wren and Lark. Which seems a bit "samey" to me.

Poodlelove · 01/03/2026 21:34
