AIBU to be anxious about a trip to Las Vegas

We are supposed to be flying to Las Vegas on Friday. I’m really worried about it. Am I being silly? I don’t know what I think is gonna happen I’m just concerned. Anyone else due to travel?

Well ICE might shoot you I suppose.

squashyhat · 01/03/2026 09:46

What are you worried about? The plane crashing? A drone attack? Gambling away all your money? The food being shit? Trump being a narcissistic twat? The first four are unlikely and you can't do anything about the last.

TheoreticallyAdult · 01/03/2026 09:46

YANBU.

I’m astounded that anyone would voluntarily visit the USA.

iamamickey · 01/03/2026 09:55

I’m worried about something happening while I’m there and not being able to get home I think

Like what?

If your anxiety is this bad, just don't go. I wouldn't go near the US right now, but that's due to Trump.

Totally agree with

We’re being really overexposed to a lot right now, particularly with SM and 24:7 News. It’s normal for that to affect you. On the balance of probabilities, your trip will pass without issue & you’ll have a great time.

TheGoddessAthena · 01/03/2026 10:04

I'm flying to the next state over from Vegas tomorrow. I'm worried about jet lag, having to sit next to someone unpleasant on the flight, and a tight transfer time in San Francisco. And that's about it.

CharlotteRumpling · 01/03/2026 10:06

You need to be worried about hideous tackiness, awful food and the worst of American bling. Otherwise, nothing.

Like ? Why did you book if you were so worried or is the worry after yesterdays developments?

MushMonster · 01/03/2026 10:10

I would not travel to US. No way.
But it is unlikely they keep you. You have more chances of them not allowing you in.

MmeWorthington · 01/03/2026 10:10

Well, thousands of flights in and out of the U.S have been cancelled and while most are to the ME many are to European destinations including London so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Charlottejbt · 01/03/2026 10:11

Why would you go to the USA with ICE on the rampage? It's pretty reckless. Then again, they can't arrest everyone so chances are you'll probably be OK. YABU for going to the States though.

Clearinguptheclutter · 01/03/2026 10:12

I wouldn’t go to the us right now but I suspect you will be perfectly safe in LV. Not sure why you planned to go in the first place if you’re an anxious person though. The us has been on my personal no-go list for all the time trump has been in power

TheGoddessAthena · 01/03/2026 10:16

All the "well I wouldn't travel to the USA" posters virtue signalling - why exactly? There are a million and one reasons why people want/need to travel to the US. I am going for a work opportunity for a couple of days and having free time either side of that seeing the sights. Me shunning the opportunity to make potential valuable work connections, see my friends and have a bit of a break is going to have what effect, exactly?

No I don't approve of a lot of what the government is doing out there at the moment and neither do many of the people I will be spending time with. But portraying the US as dangerous is just ludicrous.

MrsBenevolent · 01/03/2026 10:19

It's not just that though it's it? I have no desire to put my cash into the American economy.

Clearinguptheclutter · 01/03/2026 10:19

I wouldn’t want to travel to the US not because I think it’s particularly unsafe- though if you are of a certain ethnic origin I’m not so sure- but mostly because I don’t want the trump administration to get a single penny of my hard earned cash.

(yes they have something called TAX on almost everything you buy in the US).

is that not a good enough reason? Similarly almost anywhere in the Middle East, Russia etc.

clarrylove · 01/03/2026 10:22

No-one I know is travelling to the US right now.

LlynTegid · 01/03/2026 10:22

In my experience the easiest place in the US I have ever flown into.

I’m sure they’ll be just fine without your contribution. It’s funny, I was reading some comments from Americans feeling the same way about the “state of the uk” and how they wouldn’t travel here. It’s all just a bit pathetic. People can go on trips and visit countries without agreeing to every song decision the government makes.

That’s nice for you, and your prerogative. Others have a different view.

TheGoddessAthena · 01/03/2026 10:28

Which is fine, but why feel the need to wade in on a thread about someone who HAS made plans to travel to the US and is nervous not because of Trump or ICE but because of what is happening in the Middle East.

And the fact that everything costs an a arm and a leg!

Honestly, you'll be fine (your bank balance, not so much lol).

Do flights to the US go over the ME? There are actual Britons stuck there now.

jeaux90 · 01/03/2026 10:31

I go in and out of the US a lot, work and holidays. Just got back from Vegas for work and trust me the only thing to worry about is getting out the plane quick so you don’t spend an hour in the immigration queue 🤣
