Slippers on holiday

Im going on holiday and am not sure whether to pack slippers. I am taking flip flops, so I could use them as slippers so it's one less item to pack.

I get UTIs if I walk around on tiled floors abroad in the summer.

Possibly the maddest thing I've ever read on MN which is saying something.

That’s really saying something!
Waiting patiently for this poster to return and explain the UTI connection to tiled foreign floors. Is it only in summer? What about Lino or other hard floors? What about UK tiled floors in winter? I need to know!

Hollowvoice · 01/03/2026 15:31

The only place I don't take slippers to is my parents house, because I keep a pair there!

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 01/03/2026 15:46

Im always in a pair of slippers and have never had a UTI so I feel justified in my slobbishness!

SpanThatWorld · 01/03/2026 15:48

I knew I was getting old when I went away with my uni mates for the weekend and we all had different orthotic sliders

Dontcallmescarface · 01/03/2026 16:09

I always take slippers as I don't wear flip-flops/sliders under any circumstances.

Cheap slippers are not a waste to me though, if I'm going to chuck them every time after I go on holiday.

After walking around a hotel room I wouldn't want to bring slippers home, unless maybe they're okay to be washed

Ok

Wow. Well I beg her pardon!

tutugogo · 02/03/2026 21:14

Depends where you’re going, i would not take them to a warm place, but I do staying with my mum

Londonrach1 · 02/03/2026 21:16

Yes slippers over flip-flops any day. More comfortable. I don't understand why you not pack them

LoyalMember · 02/03/2026 21:17

Don't even wear flip flops. Ghastly looking things.

Growlybear83 · 02/03/2026 21:20

I’m fascinated by this thread. I wear flip flops or sandals round the pool and hotel when I’m on holiday but it’s never occurred to me to wear anything on my feet in my room, any more than I would wear anything on my feet at home, except for the very coldest weather, when I might dig out a pair of socks.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 02/03/2026 21:20

I have plantar fasciitis so usually bring Birkenstock clogs as I need a supportive sole.

HappyAsASandboy · 02/03/2026 21:23

Slippers are awful and I don’t have them at home. I certainly wouldn’t take them on holiday.

I prefer not to wear outdoor shoes indoors, though I am not strict about it at all. At home I wear socks, or just bare feet if it is summer. On holiday I would do the same.

Mithral · 02/03/2026 21:27

I have to wear something on my feet all the time or my plantar fasciitis plays up. So I'm always in slippers or flip flops if I'm not in proper shoes at home or not. So it depends on the temperature of the destination.

FourSevenTwo · 02/03/2026 21:34

100%

I have very comfortable, supportive and easy to clean pair (Peter Legwood Dolphins), so while they takes some space (but not much weight), it's absolutely worth it.
I wear them in the room, to the hotel breakfast, common areas, and I can use them poolside as well.

Blueskiesnotgrey · 01/03/2026 00:09

i take 2 pairs of flip flops - inside and outside 😁

Same!

FourForksSake · 02/03/2026 22:20

I’m off on a cruise and trying various Birkie style clogs to wear about the ship and in my cabin. I obviously wouldn’t wear slippers in public areas but want a similar level of comfort.
Always take slippers if self-catering too.

I pack the freebie disposable slippers that I got once when I stayed at a posh-ish hotel.

I do this too. When I go to the spa, I take home the slippers then use them on holiday and leave them there. They are so light so don't add weight to luggage.

Pettifogg · 02/03/2026 22:40

I take cheap, washable slippers on holiday. I don't like to have my bare feet on hotel floors or holiday villa floors. Yuk. So I take a cheap pair that I can either bin there, or take home and wash.

Chinsupmeloves · 02/03/2026 22:43

Never take my slippers on holiday, crocs all the way! Xx

worrisomeasset · 02/03/2026 22:44

Of course you should pack slippers. DH goes one step further and takes his special “holiday” dressing gown with him. It’s made of thin cotton and folds up nice and small.

FourForksSake · 02/03/2026 22:49

I take a dressing gown too! Perfect for loafing around in!

I’m fascinated that someone feels the need to ask the internet whether or not to take their slippers with them 😭

Arlanymor · 02/03/2026 22:51

I'm currently wearing slippers that you can heat up in the microwave - so toasty!
