Little sympathy for anyone who chooses to go to Dubai

What a shitty comment.

TheGander · 28/02/2026 21:20

Yes I can understand targeting US airbases, but hotels and other non military facilities including in Saudi Arabia seems odd. They are just attracting more hostility to themselves from their neighbours surely?

Ethically, I would never travel to Dubai, but this is not the time for this.

The best advise is to shelter in place and follow local government and the foreign office advice. No one knows when the airspace will reopen.

💯

Hi all, I am a travel insurer by trade and it has been a busy day. Generally across the industry there are clear exclusions that would exclude military action of this type. We are continuing to speak to the FCA amongst others and at this stage it is likely that most (but not all) insurers will try and help as much as they can, but it will vary from company to company and according to the wording of each policy. The airline will eventually look to get you home, but additional costs are at this stage are looking less clear. Sorry not to be able to give clearer info, but the position is not straight forward. Airline compensation will also not be straight forward as these are events outside of the airline's control.

I’m in Dubai visiting family. I’m getting a little worried. Definitely heard two explosions earlier that don’t seem to be reported in the news. Hard to know what’s going on locally. I know the palm got hit with falling debris. My flight is supposed to be Tuesday - heard nothing from Emirates and nothing is showing in the app.

Report is it was an Iranian missile.

I'm pretty sure the gay people who are arrested in Dubai think it's a bit shit there as well.

I saw yesterday US was evacuating all of their staff from various countries in the ME and suspected this was coming - we have been warned for months it was brewing. I guess because UK were unaware of their military plans a few nationals will be stuck over there. Hopefully there will be better communication with US/UK and a plan to evacuate can happen. I doubt it will end any better than when we tried the same thing in Iraq. US never learns.

justasking111 · 28/02/2026 21:32

I'm watching the evacuation of terminal 3 at Dubai. It's very orderly. They're going to underground car parks.

Wow - is that really the airport that’s been hit?

Barrenfieldoffucks · 28/02/2026 21:33

My sister has been loving and working in Neom for a couple of months now, a little close for comfort

wheresmymojo · 28/02/2026 21:33

Yes, there are reports of a missile attack on Dubai International Airport but it’s unclear if true or not at the moment

applegingermint · 28/02/2026 21:35

We’ve just been sent footage of a hit to Abu Dhabi airport by some friends who live there, but I can’t find confirmation online. Definitely Abu Dhabi as I double checked with them.

CreamolaFoam26 · 28/02/2026 19:37

what makes you dismissive of grab bags for people who want to be able to leave quickly?

Im dismissive of alarmists. The airports will be open in a couple of days and even if they weren’t we’re still weeks away from the kind of evacuation that would warrant the need for grab bags.

You think so? Got your bag packed now?

TheGander · 28/02/2026 21:35

Thank you @Mumtobabyhavoc . Naively didn’t realise how widespread Americas reach in the Gulf was.

holachicatita · 28/02/2026 21:35

An Irish 'influencer' (I used that term loosely) is posting live from her balcony. She's terrified. Her video has been viewed nearly 800k times.

Where are you watching this, please? Has the airport really been hit?

RedToothBrush · 28/02/2026 21:36

If you are in any of the effected areas you should register your presence with the Foreign Office.

They put this out on twitter 20 mins ago.

This sounds like a probable military style evacuation likely.

I"m flicking channels but GB News have it as 'breaking' news.

Springspring8 · 28/02/2026 21:38

I used to live in the region - in a country where this happened more often and on a large scale. Would look at options to go overland to Oman if it escalates.

Flying glass is a major concern and something you can try to avoid. If only option a room facing the Gulf I would consider moving into the corridor or going down to the car park if it is underground. Glasses/sunglasses to protect eyes. Grab a hand towel or sarong in case of dust/smoke.

If you do have to leave pack a grab bag as hand luggage - any meds, some snacks, drinks and first aid kit if you have anything. Keep phones fully charged in case the power goes.

keep passports, cash and any meds (split between you and the grab bag) on you - zip pocket is ideal. Take a photo of your passport/visas and WhatsApp it to family member.

Be very careful of local laws - as mentioned above - regarding sharing footage. Also look for local information - Dubai Ministey of Interior, Ministry of Defence, local media. As well as the Embassies.

Follow advice to register with Embassy. Try to get some rest when you can.

Yes it has been hit, have to say it looks okay pillars in the shopping area standing firm. It's not on at this second, but was on GB news.

Just watching people in a bomb shelter in Tel Aviv. They're very organised have had two years of it

I wouldn’t go to Dubai. I can’t think of anywhere less appealing. But that IS NOT THE POINT right now. OP is scared and anxious, possibly with children. This is not the time nor the place to berate her for being there.

OP, I think, as others have said, you need to take advice from your airline, tour operator or the foreign office. I don’t think I’d be trying to move elsewhere just yet, hunker down and see how is pans out. Best of luck.

Not the point but you make it anyway
