Anyone else in Dubai on holiday? AIBU to be panicking with all the flights cancelled?

That’s horrid. I have my own views about Dubai but this thread is not the time and place for this. People are scared and deserve some kindness and understanding.

I don't think this is 'has anyone ever been to Dubai' thread.

FFS!! How about a bit of compassion and understanding about how scared the OP and others in a similar situation are right now. This is neither the time or the place. I'm disgusted by your comments

EsperTillus · 28/02/2026 18:25

Hope you get home soon OP. Our flight to Doha got turned back just as we were leaving UK airspace. As angry as I am that we won’t get to New Zealand in time to see my aunt on her deathbed, I’m very thankful that we didn’t end up trapped in the Middle-East. You must be very frightened. I don’t have much advice other than what others on the thread have said, but I am so sorry this has happened.

Sometimes “think before you post” applies.

its not somewhere I would travel but this isn’t the time or place for that. We don’t know why they OP is there and it doesn’t really matter because either way it’s a worrying time for those there or with loved ones there

Oh do give us a break - this is about the particular OP who is concerned about her safety and how to get home, not some sob story.

My friend works for BA as cabin crew and she’s put on her social media that her flight out today was cancelled and they don’t know when they are going to resume. Which is probably the case for all the airlines. Nobody can know what’s going to happen really.

Mummyof2andthatsenough · 28/02/2026 18:31

Way to kick someone when they not just down, but terrified.

ummmm what makes you think everyone is choosing to go to Dubai on holiday? Some are stopping in Dubai to catch a connecting flight to somewhere else. These people are stranded. Many people’s flight’s have been cancelled like a relative of mine who has just had their flight cancelled into Dubai and their connecting flight out of Dubai cancelled. Oh and it had been booked for almost a year! Are you suggesting my relative should have known what was going to happen in a years time? Jesus wept! There seems to be some bitter people on this thread today!

katscamel · 28/02/2026 18:35

Just stay where you are and follow instructions given. Im not sure about Oman but no flights out from anywhere at the moment, Saudia have suspended their flights for now as have Emirates ,Etihad, Qatar, Whizz Air and most others... Kuwait airport was hit ad was Riyadh.
There was a security guy on Instagram who has lived in the region for years and he was saying its still far safer than being in London and he really didnt have any worries about his family being there
I know it feels scary, the unknown always is but with any luck it'll be done by the end of the week (until next time)

Yep...only good thing about that is she got cancelled at base..

All around the Gulf airline crew who packed for a nightstop are wondering 🤔

LittleGreenDuck · 28/02/2026 18:37

I wouldn’t go to Dubai. I can’t think of anywhere less appealing. But that IS NOT THE POINT right now. OP is scared and anxious, possibly with children. This is not the time nor the place to berate her for being there.

OP, I think, as others have said, you need to take advice from your airline, tour operator or the foreign office. I don’t think I’d be trying to move elsewhere just yet, hunker down and see how is pans out. Best of luck.

I agree the point is about OP and how frightened she is, but let me assure you, Dubai is a wonderful holiday destination. Go if you get the chance.

So before the situation kicked off then, and therefore not at all relevant to this thread?

I spent a lot of time in Bahrain in the 80s/90s - a truly lovely and interesting place. The ME is fascinating for its history, culture and way of life. Please don't dismiss it.

I thought that too.

Op hopefully all will be ok. It’s likely it will but I get you might be worried.

MeAndMyGhost · 28/02/2026 18:42

Sit tight OP. The situation will pass soon.

Monitor FCDO travel advice. Not much else you can do.

Carla786 · 28/02/2026 18:44

exdxb · 28/02/2026 17:49

You are not being unreasonable to feel
panic- it’s important to be informed but also keep calm. When are you due to fly home? Driving across the border is not as easy as it sounds - most hires won’t allow it, especially for a one way hire.

I used to live in Dubai and have been in touch with friends today and tonight. Everyone is safe, at first they were all pretty relaxed about it but as it’s developed are now understandably scared.

The explosions from intercepted missiles are ongoing and shaking homes across the city as well as the videos circulating of the fire on the Palm.

do you know anyone in Dubai that you could stay with? I can’t see flights running normally any time soon so you need to make a back up accommodation plan. Do you have transport? I would browse hotels in RAK/Ajman/Sharjah if you need to extend your stay and get out of Dubai but still be able to get back to DXB relatively quickly if your flight is rebooked.

I hope you get info soon but wouldn’t expect it too quickly as the level on cancellations are vast. I also hope that this thread won’t turn into a typical Dubai bashing one and remember the OP just wants to get home with her family.

Bashing would be awful, I hope any posters critical of Dubai (which I am myself) would have the empathy to not kick someone worried for their family. This is AIBU, though...☹️
