Just heard from a friend near the airport in Dubai. Nobody will be leaving by plane for a while, I'm afraid.

Heard the same from my family and Telegraph reported on it this morning:

The one where fuck all was going to happen until thousands of brave individuals got involved with their personal property, crew and lives to help/make it possible?

Jeez the quality of history education is really shocking.

The Dunkirk evacuation and small boat flotilla was organised by the Government. It is depressing to see that some people genuinely think it was some kind of spontaneously organised community event to take a day trip to the Dunkirk beaches.

notimagain · 07/03/2026 13:05

According to reports (MSM and elsewhere) there was a ground stop for ? An hour plus late AM UK time so maybe early PM Dubai local, then later reports stated tthat at least some departures had resumed.

As I post the aircraft tracking sites (e.g. Flightradar) are showing some flights have departed in that last half hour or so (e.g. a DXB-Paris) but just how accurate those sites are for traffic in that area ATM, wouldn't like to say.

lirt · 07/03/2026 13:09

my friend is there at the moment,
on holiday with her kids. She’s presenting a blitz spirit positive attitude, determined to finish her holiday (!!!) and has been going out and about daily doing things, in between the sirens and phone alerts. She doesn’t seem bothered about getting back here at first opportunity which I find hard to understand if I’m honest.

The explosion/drone attack at Dubai airport I am talking about happened less than an hour ago.

Agreed it wasn't spontaneous my FIL was ex navy so part of the organisation from North Wales. I knew some of the boats that were still around in the 80's.

Ok, well my timings fit with the reports/images in the likes of the Guardian are carrying and there was a period few hours back when there were supposedly no outbounds and the inbounds were holding.

Fast forward to now and they appear to back to normalish ops or as close as it gets ATM.

if something had gone off in the last hour it's yet to be widely reported...

CreamolaFoam26 · 07/03/2026 13:38

The drone attack on the airport didn’t amount to anything much given the location of where the building was hit. I will try to find the video online of it happening in real time and fined by a man across the street from it.

damsela · 07/03/2026 13:44

I thought one would be severely sanctioned for sharing updates on SM etc. from Dubai? Not having a go at anyone, but be careful!

I hope everyone who needs to gets back safely. Seems things change from minute to minute. All seems well, then not. I suppose if you are living there you just get on with things, but if you're anxious to get home from a holiday it's a different matter.

My friend lives there. She’s posting on her stories that they’re out and about doing their normal things- she’s been out for drinks and playing golf a lot by the looks of it. I don’t know anyone else who’s currently there but my friend definitely doesn’t seem too phased by it. Or fazed. Whichever is the correct spelling for it

How long will the bombers be in the UK and how long will it take them to get to Iran @notimagain

Today? The Al Jazeera clip in the PP is about the drone strike last week.

This was it.

eta - life really is going on as normal on this part of the work.

More than once I’ve been in situations where the outside world’s media was better informed about the danger we were in than we were.

The fact that people are going about their daily lives as normal doesn’t mean a thing.

Yes, it is my understanding that there was very heavy bombing early this morning Dubai time, which is when I think the airport was struck. Then, some time this afternoon Dubai time, perhaps around midday UK time, I believe there was another drone strike, with debris landing and causing damage in the airport area. This is what I’m hearing from people actually in Dubai now, I am not there myself.

I have a friend in Dubai currently (unless she has left via Oman which was an option on Thursday) When I expressed amazement at her being there in the first place - she is practically allergic to holidays* - she told me she went for the sun and to get in the pool, as her replacement hips were giving her gip with all the rain in UK 🙈 She was getting top tier treatment from the hotel, and she said everyone had to shelter in place, ie not leave the hotel. The beaches are closed. So I am baffled as to how so many people are out and about being 'normal' ?

(*Just remembered when a very close friend persuaded her to join a spa holiday in Thailand, years ago, she slipped near the pool on the first day and broke her wrist.)

No one is saying how long they're staying..

As far as flight times go, anyones guess - commercial flights London- Tehran or at least overhead used to be maybe 6ish hours but with the Mil there will be a lot of "it depends" on diplomatic clearance for routes and other variables.

Notsosweetcaroline · 07/03/2026 14:54

I think they are controlled in what they can say, I Read they had to say how well protected they were and how safe, or there was a punishment, and irs why all the influencers are saying the exact same line.

i have a friend in Dubai, lives there, for decades ans she’s just posted it too, nearly word for word, about how well protected they are and how safe they feel.

i don’t think the reality is being shown, and Dubai is trying to keep its reputation intact for when this conflict ends.

No it’s not. It’s dated today and is being widely reported in the press.

perhaps people are saying the same thing almost word for word because there’s not many ways to say the same thing, especially when what they’re saying is true.

Yeah. I think you’d need to hace drunk the cool aid to beleive everyone wants to post about how well protected they are.

For once I'd like to hear a F2F interview with those who got back - holiday makers I mean. That wouldn't be censored. Or would it?

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 07/03/2026 15:28

I am seeing things like this, which was posted by the UAE MOD on X earlier today, being posted by friends in Dubai. I am also attaching the latest post from the UAE MOD on X from about a quarter an hour ago.
