One whole flight from Oman from the British government for vulnerable people already registered in UAE who are in Oman. Apparently.

But it looks like commercial flights are making it it of Oman and Dubai too

It's a start. I remember when Monarch went kaput there were a lot of people to repatriate . The foreign office were at the airport we waited at.

Rattletattles · 04/03/2026 12:18

Oman is not affected, lots of people stuck outside of UAE are flying to Muscat and crossing the border into UAE, we have booked my DD on an Oman air flight this weekend.

RedToothBrush · 04/03/2026 13:00

DHs friend is at the airport and due to depart on her flight as originally planned (she's going onto another destination in Asia). Apparently flight currently confirmed to go (at least for now). So it sounds like a certain amount of normality kicking in.

Well don’t worry folks. Our revered parliamentarians are having dancing lessons. Look over there. Your lives in their hands. 🤡🤡🤡

Oman is affected. We’ve been hit and ships have been hit in our waters. In fact there is currently a 100km exclusion zone around a certain part of the country for a certain nationality that was put in place by their government.

That said, the airport is running at a reduced capacity and has been from day 1. But apparently there is a good amount of private jets taking off with people from Dubai etc who have the money and the ability to organise such things.

And only today the people have been asked by the government to be vigilant and report suspicious drone activity they may see to a specific phone number.

It’s a much reduced schedule out of Oman.

keepswimming38 · 04/03/2026 17:25

Just watching two flights from uk land in Dubai. These are repatriation flights. Emirates airlines.

Obviously the Oman air flights within the affected region are cancelled, but outside of those, it seems to not have affected other routes (except Copenhagen, which is a strange one). I see other airlines are still flying in and out of Muscat,

Oman air statement from yesterday

Thank you for that but I’m pretty up on what’s going on with Oman air flights due to the jobs my loved ones do. We’re living it hour by hour so to speak.

Rattletattles · 04/03/2026 18:47

@CreamolaFoam26 . Oh no. Do you think we should cancel the flight we have booked (at huge cost, let me add 😩).Everyone in UAE seems to be looking at Muscat as a route in and out of the UAE at the moment.

What precisely is it that you think Lindsay Hoyle, a man with no governmental responsibility and a clearly defined role that he appears to be adequately fulfilling, should be doing?

CreamolaFoam26 · 04/03/2026 18:56

@Rattletattles hi there, I replied to your original post because you said Oman wasn’t affected and I just wanted to clear that misconception up.

Regarding your DD’s flight. I would stick to the plans you've put in place but should you be worried about her you are more than welcome to message me - I would be happy to bring her home for a coffee and company.

Rattletattles · 04/03/2026 19:32

Thank you so much @CreamolaFoam26 , that is so very kind of you.

‘Yes, the worry is jumping from the fat into the fire, really believed Muscat was fine (other than the tanker being hit off the coast), can’t imagine if she got stranded in Muscat where we know no one, So much misinformation going around . Thanks again.

It wasn’t just Lindsay Hoyle , from what I’ve read there were 40 MPs dancing away !! Dancing whilst the Middle East implodes !! Nero and his fiddle!!

Well Ed Davey today asked for an urgent Commons vote to proscribe the IRGC as a terrorist organisation so may be that instead of dancing might be a start !!
Or maybe they could’ve considered the optics to the general public of seeing our MPs dancing whilst the world is in crisis !!

LoveHearts69 · 04/03/2026 21:13

I do feel sorry for the commercial pilots and airline crews who are going to be taking the tourists back out of the UAE, I know they have likely had training for that scenario but it must be terrifying flying over, and landing in a war zone.

justasking111 · 04/03/2026 21:20

I've been in two big repatriation events the Iceland cloud and Monarch going bump. This is going to cost the governments of each country an enormous amount of money.

There's not really/usually special training for those circumstances.

It's usually a case of being aware of any notices regarding relevant temporary procedures, making sure you fly routes accurately and pay attention to what Air Traffic Control and others are saying over the radio(s), which is what you should be doing anyway.

TBH given the state of the world these days most crews (and lots of passengers) will have flown over war zones (Afghanistan was a favourite, Sudan another) but I'll accept this one is a bit different

Exactly @EtonMessy.
@Alouestmay think good on them but they are being roundly criticised elsewhere. Deckchairs and sinking ships spring to mind.

RedToothBrush · 05/03/2026 07:39

DH's friend left Dubai on her flight. They were told not to stream from WiFi as that made them a target!

Meanwhile the British can't organise a piss up in a brewery. Our only rescue flight got delayed for technical issues. HMS Dragon to defend our base in Cyprus won't even sail until next week and it's a 5 day journey. Meanwhile the French have bailed us out and set anti-missile defence to Cyprus.

Our response has become embarrassing.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 05/03/2026 07:49

Not forgetting to mention that the Greeks were the first to send defence support to Cyprus, sending 2 F-16 fighter planes, along with 2 Hellenic Navy frigates, which arrived in Cypriot waters on Wednesday.

notimagain · 05/03/2026 08:13

@RedToothBrush

I'm sure that's what were told but Satcom or a similarly labelled switch on the flight deck to "off" would solve that...
