Warhead on a V1 was 850 kg , so a bit of difference.

Fair point
but a Shahed is NOT a small quadcopter type "drone"
its an unmanned aircraft

Shahed Drones are NOT small
they carry a 50kg bomb
have a 3m wingspan and are 2.5m long

they are equivalent to a V1 rocket from WW2

Err, OK,.... I didn't define small and I sure as heck know we're not talking DJI size...

If you'd read the whole discussion it concerned the relative ease of finding current Iranian ballistic missiles that, if they are mobile are shifted around on a TEL about the size or bigger than a large petrol tanker verses something "small enough" to be transported on and launched from a much smaller vehicle.

Oh, but if you want to be really want to picky the V1 wasn't a rocket.......

A German V1 (the World's first cruise missile), was 8.4m long, had a wingspan of 5.4m and had a warhead of 850Kg. It could travel at 640kph. A Shahed drone flies at 185kph.

I have heard that the US can only maintain these high tempo operations for 7 days. You are going to have to hope that when the US stops firing then the Iranians will stop.

I suspect the calculation is the Iranian will have stopped before then...

The fuckin foreign office for a delayed flight?? Yes I know what is going on out ther but get a fucking grip ( not you OP).

But it isn't a delayed flight. A normal delayed flight then yes, contacting the foreign office is completely over the top. But in this situation it's actually advised.

I stand in solidarity with the Iranians in the same way I stood for Congo, Palestine, Sudan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Lebanon… the list is almost endless and the common denominator is always western colonial interferences and arrogance.

Israel’s partnership with America will end in despair for the whole world. That much, unfortunately, I have no doubt about. Their arrogance and greed has no limit and it will always be innocent people in the crossfire.

yeah, let’s blame Israel and America, not the terrorist states who throw gay people off buildings, stone women for being the victims of rape and want to destroy the west, especially anyone jewish?

The size of small cars that have been shipped to Russia for 4 years before being used in Ukraine.

They know where the drones are.

Exactly. Its a unique kind of evil that allows you to gun down tens of thousands of YOUR OWN civilians for protesting.

Bravo for America, where the government murders only a small number of protesters!

Israel is a fantastic place to live too, if you just ignore the bit the government have been carpet-bombing.

CandidLurker · 01/03/2026 15:42

For the FO you just register online. FO advice is to follow local authorities advice. The FO is not saying anything more or different than the Dubai authorities.

The same way Iraq and Afghanistan were freed by America? Two things can be true at once. Iran needs freedom but America and Israel have their own ‘oily’ agenda and peace has never been their priority.

Such a coincidence that whenever America talks about the freedom of women in the Middle East, that country is the next one to be bombed 🤷🏻‍♀️

As you said, two things can be true at once. In this case, however, it is that you can hate Trump and Netanyahu and STILL be grateful to them for helping to free Iran.

You don't have to hate absolutely every single thing Israel says and does. It's ok to on occasion accept that they can also do the right thing.

And saying peace has never been Israel's priority is just inaccurate and shows your ignorance regarding the history of the country.

I am hopeful that Iran will now get a chance to go back to the way it was only a few decades ago - a free country full of love, learning and beauty.

You win the award for the most facetious and ignorant comment on the Internet.

You have absolutely no idea. Shocking.

I feel for you and other people out there given the current situation. But sadly, am I surprised about the situation, absolutely NOT! The middle east is the middle east, it is what it is, always had and will be unsafe and unstable. People have been turning a blind eye to it all more and more since it became a “popular holiday destination” for some. People are easily bought, bit of sunshine, tax free salaries and “luxury living” or whatever else sucks them in. There has always been trouble in the middle east in one country or another they love a kick off too much sun on their heads?! All very extreme and common sense is zero. I wouldn’t attempt to drive to any neighbouring country either! More dangerous, stay put and hold tight until the airline updates you. I know you’re panicking BUT if flights are cancelled they cancelled. Airspace is airspace think of it like, if UK flights were cancelled you wouldn’t be flying into Scotland instead. and if things are being fired you don’t want to be flying anyway. Last Feb that british couple, craig and lindsey foreman were taken hostage, driving though Iran, accused of spying and are still being held. I have several Iranian friends and they wouldn’t go back regardless. Country was taken over by yet another nut job and they left for their own safety. Awful. But as I said, whole middle east is a melting pot of dramatic nutters and dictators. It’s been sad watching people say ohhhh Dubai is so safe, no crime, feel so safe here, everyone is so nice.I’m sure they are to some degree. BUT people happy to turn a blind eye to the fact things can go south very quickly……and here you are. Same with Egypt over 10yrs ago, was a no go place for a while due to similar dramas.

You mean like Saudi Arabia? who chop up Journalists... executed 347 people last year & who we arm.

Anyway, just looking forward to all the people who left the UK because they didn't want to pay UK taxes, now moaning that the UK tax payer should fly them home....

Whose arrogance and greed has no limit? And what's that got to do with Iran? And how are you standing with Iramians exactly? What a meaningless virtue signalling word salad.

We live very near a RAF base too. There is usually a pattern to their activity. Very quiet the last few days after a burst of activity. There is a distinct change in sound when the planes have been 'scrambled' to somewhere. A few times over the 10 years we have lived here there have been sonic booms..I understand what a pp said about looking at the planes and hearing them and imaging how it must feel to live in an area where there is conflict.

Ive noticed this too. I said on Thursday something was 'going off'. You get used to noises and the feel. Its been manic over the last 24hrs. Different planes flying too.

Yeah, no. If you chose to move out there, you need to sort your own arrangements out.

For those in transit or on holiday I think if the airlines can't get them home in a week or so I'd support the govt rescue flights as the FO should have had a 'do not go there' status.

FrozenFebruary · 01/03/2026 16:12

Yep. Get tourists home before expats.

ShamedBySiri · 01/03/2026 16:33

Slightly off topic, but what happens with work when you can't get home and back to work for the foreseeable? Do they put it down as unpaid/special leave? A significant drop in income for an unidentified period will add to woes, those monthly bills and mortgage payments will still be mounting up.

itsamimario · 01/03/2026 16:34

When I got stuck in the US for an extra week because of the ash cloud, work just had to get on with it. There wasn’t anything I could do!
