That’s not actually what it says. Also, you can’t trust what is reported by UAE news outlets. It’s just propaganda

Reported in Western media too.

Boudy · 01/03/2026 13:36

We live very near a RAF base too. There is usually a pattern to their activity. Very quiet the last few days after a burst of activity. There is a distinct change in sound when the planes have been 'scrambled' to somewhere. A few times over the 10 years we have lived here there have been sonic booms..I understand what a pp said about looking at the planes and hearing them and imaging how it must feel to live in an area where there is conflict.

No. Have a look at what goes on in an Islamist regime. What would your rights be as a woman? Both the USA and Israel are democracies with civil rights laws. Are they perfect? No, but it would be about a million times better to live there than a theocratic Iran.

Exactly. Its a unique kind of evil that allows you to gun down tens of thousands of YOUR OWN civilians for protesting.

Do you have links? I can’t see that it is from a search

My friend’s DH works in Dubai for a respected news outlet. Says all flights in and out cancelled til March 10th.

Blimey thats along time, but suppose they need it to make sure everything settles down

I honestly think that 11th March is just a best guess for things like planning/rostering purposes by the airline.

Emirates/Qatar/Eiihad (the airlines) and other carriers will be hemorrhaging cash right now, they aren't going to commit at this stage to not restarting before the 11th if they can safely get thing moving before hand....

It's very much a wait and see.

I agree with this as an assessment.

They will not want to restart operations before they think it's viable. It's a fairly reasonable and realistic date at this stage based on information there is.

Anything sooner would be viewed as reckless. Anything later would be viewed as frightening.

MyOpenGoldKoala · 01/03/2026 14:05

Emirates have only cancelled flights until tomorrow - they’ve just done an update.

Humdingerydoo · 01/03/2026 14:06

Wishing everyone affected lots of strength, and hope this finishes soon with a free Iran as the end result. But in the meanwhile, take care of yourselves.

This will end soon, and you will be ok.

India Today is going all out on coverage online. Does anyone know, is it reliable? I always thought it was a reliable news source and they do have a lot of citizens in Dubai as well. And I guess the volatile situation with Pakistan is always ongoing.

I think it’s worth stating again to those people stuck in the region that local media (and also local social media) cannot be relied upon to give honest and accurate information on what is happening.
Use UK Govt sources such as the Foreign Office, UK TV channels (BBC, Channel 4) as your reference points.
Dubai/UAE media is very heavily censored. It’s already apparent - with inaccurate reports about debris rather missiles hitting buildings, number of casualties at the airports. They are keen to show the world that their security defences are fully in control.

Yes, absolutely this. A lot of it is being downplayed, there is a ban on posting videos and photos, and it is a crime to post if it hasn’t come from official sources, which is a good and bad thing. A FB page with up to date realtime info from residents are now having to delete posts and not allowing comments on other posts.

Supermarket shelves are practically empty, don’t know how they will replenish.

Yes, I’m sure all the gays in Israel (even though they can’t get legally married lol) are very happy and all the women in America are very safe and “free” (unless they get shot in the street).

I have lived in “Islamist” regimes and in the west. The difference is always that white/euro lives are considered more valuable than brown people or the “savage” Middle Easterns.

Israel is committing war crimes as we speak and just because Iran was run by a dictator, doesn’t mean Israel’s own evil tyrant or America’s pdfile president is any better.

Have you contacted the airline to see what they say? Or the foreign office?

I hope that you manage to get back soon.

The fuckin foreign office for a delayed flight?? Yes I know what is going on out ther but get a fucking grip ( not you OP).

FCDO are asking UK citizens to get in contact so they can be registered…

The same way Iraq and Afghanistan were freed by America? Two things can be true at once. Iran needs freedom but America and Israel have their own ‘oily’ agenda and peace has never been their priority.

Such a coincidence that whenever America talks about the freedom of women in the Middle East, that country is the next one to be bombed 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hedjwitch · 01/03/2026 14:17

DD has registered and got a grab bag ready. She's ok just now but dreading tonight she says

Don’t forget the regime change in Libya supported by the US and UK, too. Libya was a well functioning country before that, and was also the barrier which prevented the mass migration from Sub Saharan Africa that we have now.

Another region destabilised by Western meddling and arrogance, and as is the case with Afghanistan, I very much doubt that life for Iranians will improve very much, although I fervently hope I’m wrong.

Heyhihobye · 01/03/2026 14:24

I stand in solidarity with the Iranians in the same way I stood for Congo, Palestine, Sudan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Lebanon… the list is almost endless and the common denominator is always western colonial interferences and arrogance.

Israel’s partnership with America will end in despair for the whole world. That much, unfortunately, I have no doubt about. Their arrogance and greed has no limit and it will always be innocent people in the crossfire.

Ok, I ranted. The poster was implying that the FO would solve Op's problem. Registering is A-OK ...

notimagain · 01/03/2026 10:30

Yes I'm aware and I guess I should probably have expanded on that in that post...

As you say Israel/US looks like having air superiority/even supremacy over a large part of Iran so IMO it's going to be increasingly difficult for what's left of Iran's missile force to operate...basically we are are talking about big missiles usually carried on and launched from a big truck, possibly take time to set up and so can be relatively easy to detect and interdict.

The problem with the Shahed style drones is that whilst they are small and less lethal than the missiles they can be launched from something the size of a small truck/RV and the launch platform doesn't need to be exposed for long, if at all, during launch....

Air superiority/supremacy or not there's a chance the drones will last longer as a threat to adjacent states than the medium range missiles.

Shahed Drones are NOT small
they carry a 50kg bomb
have a 3m wingspan and are 2.5m long

they are equivalent to a V1 rocket from WW2

Dh just got back from Dubai on Thursday

Sorry why do you think your post is helpful to OP's plight? The strikes started on Saturday so two days AFTER your DH flew back from Dubai.

Warhead on a V1 was 850 kg , so a bit of difference.

That pp really didn't express herself very well with that post. What a subsequent post told us is that she really meant e.g. "Bloody hell, it's scary how quickly things can turn bad in a place; DH was there only last week, he flew back Thursday. Hope everyone is okay and gets out asap."

Maybe then people wouldn't have been so quick to jump down her throat. But as it stands, her OP did make me, as well as others, think, "Well, that's helpful..." 🤷‍♀️
