Anyone else in Dubai on holiday? AIBU to be panicking with all the flights cancelled?

This is a nightmare for everyone involved. People have gone for a holiday and ended up in the middle of a war. Doesn’t matter what you think of Dubai personally-we can all have sympathy for unsuspecting tourists stuck in an unfamiliar place not knowing what to do or what is going on. I hope you and everyone else out there are ok OP.

Exactly, and as pps have pointed out, many were travelling through the airport and didn't even expect to be stuck in Dubai. That's the problem with plane stopovers- you destination may be safe but the stopover may not be.

I totally understand your concern and am not minimising it but don’t forget that Dubai is extremely international with hundreds of thousands of Iranians living there, so I don’t think they will want to do too much harm….

I don't think they care about any civilians though...

Absolutely sickened and horrified by trump. First Venezuela, Greenland and now Iran.

This is not really the space for debate. Trump has behaved recklessly imo anyway but Khameini is the one who's dropping these bombs.

Best wishes.

They need to be really careful about flying glass. Curtains drawn, go into corridor or down to underground car park if pos. Take a duvet and bed down in an underground car park for the night. Luckily there isn’t an issue with street crime so this is an option.

register with embassies. Pack grab bags.

Follow embassies and Dubai ministries. Do not get in trouble by sharing videos.

Keep everything charged. Power in Dubai is good, but don’t be caught out.

Lived and worked in the region for a long time.

Yes, if they can't leave they should at least try to go to a lower floor if possible...

Khameni is dead and likely has been dead for most of the day.

Sadly, what we are seeing is that taking out Khameni is not the same thing as ending the Iranian regime.

I hope everyone on this thread stays safe. This sounds incredibly frightening.

Do we know for sure he's dead? I thought ot was possible he was only injured. Apologies if I'm behind.

It's being reported on Reuters and CNN.

I believe Burj was evacuated some time ago. It was anticipated.

Burj khalifa, the tallest building in the world, was evacuated earlier, Burj Al Arab is the sail hotel, have seen video of it on fire, but hard to know if it’s real or not.

Someone said they were en route from Thailand, now stuck in Abu Dhabi on a changeover route.

The fickle finger of fate.

Underground car park sounds like a better option if possible.

Look for emergency exits wherever you are.

Grab a hand towel/sarong in case of dust/smoke.

When you look at the size of the city versus the number of strikes the situation isn’t terrible . Just turn the fear into action to be prepared.

The fire at the sail hotel under control apparently.

The fire at the Burj Al Arab certainly looked real to me.
Dubai Media Office have confirmed that it was minor & now under control, no injuries reported.

Imo the Dubai government have been very cunning at marketing themselves as safe, modern and Westernised, often in ways which are not entirely honest. This proves that however they try to tempt people to Dubai, they cannot guarantee stating peaceful and out of the volatile politics of the ME.

100% this. If MN had been around in the 80s, white women would have been posting here about what a wonderfully ethical holiday destination South Africa was, and how apartheid was really no big deal.

Telegraph

Dubai airport has been hit.

‘Four staff members at Dubai International Airport have been wounded after authorities declared a state of emergency over potential missile strikes.
Footage posted on social media, verified by The Telegraph, appears to show one of its terminals full of smoke and debris. Another video shows Emirates crew members evacuating amid shouting and sirens.
Dubai Airports said a concourse had sustained “minor damage” which was “quickly contained”, without clarifying what caused it.
“Emergency response teams were immediately deployed and are managing the situation in coordination with the relevant authorities,” it said in a statement.
“Four staff sustained injuries and received prompt medical attention. Due to contingency plans already in place, most of the terminals were previously cleared of passengers.”

I suspect millions of Iranians don't.
I responded before the picture appeared.
Has that actually been verified or is it from the Iranian govt?

HE HAS CAUSED THIS NIGHTMARE

He is in the files and he wants to distract from that as long as possible before enough people start to ask what kind of monsters they have elected in America.

You will notice U.K. and Europe are having zero to do with this and don’t want to be seen supporting Trump in the long run.

What has been happening to civilians in Iran (the regime killing their own people, mainly students) however is terrible so there is really no ‘good guys’ here. The only positive is the small chance the Iranian people get their freedom.

They're certainly celebrating in London and elsewhere in Europe, and, from what I can see, Iran as well.
