'Being Gordon Ramsay' featuring dead pig!

Ffs! I'm just watching this Netflix show about Gordon Ramsay and his opening of a new restaurant with amazing views in the city. I'm not interested in him particularly, but thought I might go to this 'Lucky Cat' just for the views over London, if and whenever it opens.

BUT - then there is a scene where he is consulting with his head chef about the menu and there is a whole dead baby suckling pig on a plate. They are talking about making this a restaurant feature, requiring two chefs who carve it at your table.

AIBU to think this is obscene? Yes, I'm vegetarian, but I think even most meat eaters would balk at this?

If I were in his restaurant and that was going at the the next table, I would leave. Wtf is wrong with humans?

There is nothing wrong with meat eaters.

Uncontrollable global warming, ocean collapse, and deforestation will tell you otherwise.

Meat eaters would rather die than save our only habitable planet.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/02/2026 19:05

Dorado is also called mahi mahi, @faerylights ... maybe you've heard of iy by that name?

Ooh I have, thank you!

You're the one trying to tell me that piglets and human babies are the same thing when they quite clearly aren't.

Unless, like I said above, you genuinely think a grown human is the same as a grown adult pig?

Baby piglets are also bred and raised specifically to be killed for meat. Humans are not. HTH.

No one said that. You are the metaphorical pigeon shitting on a chess board.

Okay love, whatever you say, I'm bored of irritating you now 😂

I think a lot of chip shops actually use shark.

Yep shark is used here in Australia and is known as flake. Quite nice too.

I'm curious about the human brain being toxic.

I love lambs' brains, but haven't had them since holidays in Rome & Oz. Wish I could still buy them in UK like I used to.

Youbcan buy frozen in many halal butchers. As well as lamb testicles

ChattyCatty25 · 27/02/2026 19:08

faerylights · 27/02/2026 19:04

Are human babies bred and raised to be killed for food? No?

Then they're not comparable to pigs, whose only purpose is to be killed.

It's also incredibly offensive of you to bring people with intellectual disabilities into this discussion.

Oh, now you’re pretending to be offended to avoid the point.

Unawareness of mortality is no justification for causing an individual harm.

If we ever decide to breed human babies for food, will killing them suddenly become acceptable?

Interesting, I've never heard of dorado.

Kangaroo is probably one of my favourites - I had a delicious kangaroo steak in Sydney once, served in a lovely restaurant by the beach!

Kangaroo is lovely. I agree.

I definitely read this as "you can buy frozen human brain" at first 😂

I used to love "rock salmon" from the chippy, I think that was a variety of shark.
It had one central gelatinous bone, so easy to eat & delicious.

Do you really see no moral difference between cannibalism and eating meat from a different species?

Why not, if they're lab bred and raised specifically for that purpose?

Pigs raised for slaughter only exist because we decided to keep them here as a species - they wouldn't be frolicking around a field living a happy life otherwise, they'd never exist to begin with.

paloma7 · 27/02/2026 19:10

faerylights · 27/02/2026 18:57

Except human babies grow to become aware of it, pigs don't and never will.

Stop trying to compare human beings to pigs - it makes you look very silly.

Of course a human being is not a cow or pig. But nevertheless. we are all mammals, with flesh and warm blood and complex nervous systems and therefore will experience physical pain in a similar way. Animals are also highly attuned to be able to sense and feel fear. How do you know animals don't sense fear before their slaughter. They almost certainly do. Do you really think a mother pig or cow just doesn't notice if her piglet or calf is removed? Ever seen a cow mourning her calf? The way people deny animals sentience to justify using them as commodities is too depressing.

What inconsistency?

Animals aren't humans and I'm not going to try and debate with people who are ridiculous enough to believe they're the same.

Which is irrelevant
this concept of appreciation of one’s mortality as justification here is absurd

Pedallleur · 27/02/2026 19:11

Restaurants in the Far East where you pick your fish whilst it's swimming and the staff net it and cook it. That's the deal with eating meat/fish. The pig will be dead anyway. And the good news is going to the restaurant is an option.

Catsandcheese · 27/02/2026 19:12

So if you’re bothered by a pig why not by a prawn or a lobster? I hate seeing lobsters in tanks waiting to be picked. At least the pig’s dead already.

Tableforjoan · 27/02/2026 19:12

Ostrich and kangaroo both in our Morrisons.

Also get ostrich when the continental market rolls in. A place by the coast here used to do crocodile steaks.

Boar is another good one. Got a friend who’s promised me some squirrels this year.

Surprisingly though not too keen on goat or maybe I just didn’t use a good recipe.

I live in the country and see and experience all this stuff everyday - nothing you're saying is news to me and none of it puts me off eating meat.

If you apparently care so much about animals feelings, why are you still eating cheese and drinking milk?

Goat can be a bit chewy I find, has to be cooked properly.

You used to be able to get squirrel meat in Londis of all places, not sure if that's still a thing though!

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 27/02/2026 19:13

I must watch this programme.
My SIL met G.R. in a professional capacity, & described him as a sweetie in real life & nothing like his TV persona.

Sprinklesandsprinkles · 27/02/2026 19:13

I'm a meat eater and I don't disagree, I'd hate seeing this too. I hate seeing hog roasts too. But people love them and are perfectly happy seeing the pigs head on platters when it's being served out

My bad - it wasn't Londis, it was Budgens! Just had a google of it.
