'Being Gordon Ramsay' featuring dead pig!

Ffs! I'm just watching this Netflix show about Gordon Ramsay and his opening of a new restaurant with amazing views in the city. I'm not interested in him particularly, but thought I might go to this 'Lucky Cat' just for the views over London, if and whenever it opens.

BUT - then there is a scene where he is consulting with his head chef about the menu and there is a whole dead baby suckling pig on a plate. They are talking about making this a restaurant feature, requiring two chefs who carve it at your table.

AIBU to think this is obscene? Yes, I'm vegetarian, but I think even most meat eaters would balk at this?

If I were in his restaurant and that was going at the the next table, I would leave. Wtf is wrong with humans?

Can you even eat dolphin meat?!

Probably not - at least in the west - because they're protected and apparently full of dangerous heavy metals

There's dolphinfish though, otherwise known as dorado, and that's delicious

maudelovesharold · 27/02/2026 18:54

I think if you eat meat, it would be kind of hypocritical to only eat meat that is sanitised and wrapped in cellophane. You might as well go the whole hog (pun intended!) There are many cruel practices involved in farming all animals for food - it’s not a sentimental industry.
What does annoy me is the idea some people have, that vegetarians are too ‘sensitive’ to face up to the harsh realities of food production. Many vegetarians and vegans stop eating meat/animal products precisely because they do educate themselves about the exploitation of animals and the realities of farming, animal transportation and slaughter and are disgusted by the low standards which still apply to the welfare of animals bred for food.
However, if you eat meat, can see a suckling pig and just think of how tasty it is, then fair play. That’s better, in my opinion, than people only being able to face eating meat which bears absolutely no resemblance to its source.

This is current thinking !

Your schools practice is out of touch and belongs ‘ back in time’

Yes, and it was 30 years ago...that's my point 😂

No parents complained, there was no massive uproar - us kids learnt where our food came from, helped feed and raise the pig (it was considered a big honour to take Sage her veggies) and then we ate her once she had been slaughtered.

And she was delicious with some apple sauce in a bun Grin

And the poor lobsters? I think they get the worst deal.

It is not normal in restaurants to have a whole dead baby pig wheeled out, is it? We are not living in the court of Henry 8th ffs.

Plenty of restaurants feature hog roasts, which are similar. I don’t particularly like the thought of it, and I’m a meat eater, but I have agency. So do you.

I am sorry but "so it's fine to eat himan babies since it's fine eating baby pigs" is hilarious

No one said that, stop your straw manning.

The previous poster asserted that it’s fine to kill pigs because they are unaware of their own mortality. The point is that neither are human babies, so it’s no justification for making killing acceptable.

Interesting, I've never heard of dorado.

Kangaroo is probably one of my favourites - I had a delicious kangaroo steak in Sydney once, served in a lovely restaurant by the beach!

I'm not particularly 'fine' with the meat industry, no, but I can't do much about it. I can only control what I eat myself and make a small difference that way.

I am not going to tell people they can't eat meat in restaurants, that is not the point. My point is, don't make a spectacle of the poor baby pig so that GR can whack his prices up and get on TikTok or whatever. That is what I find obscene.

It's not a baby is it, you are anthropomorphising it. Don't watch Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy with the cow! I would imagine the majority of people are aware of or have seen a whole dead pig so won't have the shock you felt.

Except human babies grow to become aware of it, pigs don't and never will.

Stop trying to compare human beings to pigs - it makes you look very silly.

I've bought & cooked kangaroo steaks in UK, but can't remember where I bought them. They are nice, very lean & good for calorie counters.

Just
don’t eat the brain
keep the baby in a safe environment to avoid picking up toxins

Morrisons sell a surprising variety of exotic meat - antelope, wild boar and ostrich last time I checked.

Never seen kangaroo but we do live very rurally so it's mostly local meat.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/02/2026 18:59

I love horsemeat, that's why I said delicious. I wish I could buy it in UK

You can, @oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends Smile

Lidl used to sell both kangaroo and ostrich

Except human babies aren't piglets and this weird insistence that they are is very odd.

Unless you think you are the same as an adult pig, of course.

ChattyCatty25 · 27/02/2026 19:00

faerylights · 27/02/2026 18:45

What inconsistency?

Animals aren't humans and I'm not going to try and debate with people who are ridiculous enough to believe they're the same.

Humans are animals.

Your assertion is that pigs are different from humans because they have no awareness of their own mortality. When it’s been pointed out to you that neither do some humans, you’ve completely avoided the point. You’re not debating because you simply can’t.

I'm curious about the human brain being toxic.

I love lambs' brains, but haven't had them since holidays in Rome & Oz. Wish I could still buy them in UK like I used to.

Are these baby pigs slaughtered the minute they are born? How is this considered appetising in any shape or form? What is wrong with people?

There is nothing wrong with meat eaters.

gingercat02 · 27/02/2026 19:00

It's very common in Spain to have a whole suckling pig. I have eaten it, very tasty

crazeekat · 27/02/2026 19:00

paloma7 · 27/02/2026 17:23

I am vegetarian but I'm not going to tell other people what they can or can't eat.

What I find obscene is the making a spectacle of the whole dead animal. Like it's supposed to be a 'wow' factor. What can possibly be 'wow' about a baby pig, slaughtered at birth. To me, it's totally unnecessary and actually depraved.

Honestly, I am a meat eater. And I really wouldn’t like to see it either, it not nice to look at but thats purely my guilty conscience coming into play.

You're the one trying to tell me that piglets and human babies are the same thing when they quite clearly aren't.

Unless, like I said above, you genuinely think a grown human is the same as a grown adult pig?

Baby piglets are also bred and raised specifically to be killed for meat. Humans are not. HTH.

Have you not heard of profound intellectual disabilities? The point is that unawareness of one’s mortality is not justification for harming them.

Therefore, your reason for the killing of pigs being acceptable is either not that, or you’re a hypocrite.

Are human babies bred and raised to be killed for food? No?

Then they're not comparable to pigs, whose only purpose is to be killed.

It's also incredibly offensive of you to bring people with intellectual disabilities into this discussion.
