..of asylum seekers..
On the news. Are we supposed to be impressed? They are just being shuffled elsewhere, aren't they?

If you do not feed and house people while waiting for their claims to go through, and they are not allowed to work, then crime will go up. People will commit crime in order to survive.

Don't have them here. Simple as.

Most men who are claiming asylum are not legally allowed to work. Your point was we cannot vet these people with a DBS check to check they are safe to work in care homes, but care homes are rife with abuse by DBS vetted people.

It wasn’t my point, you can see who posted what. Is that a yes then? Because abuse already exists.

This thread is truly one of the most ill informed disgusting things I’ve ever read on here.

Tommy Robinson and his cronies have a lot to fucking answer for.

Par for the course these days unfortunately.

That doesn't mean you can just remove the only safeguard we have.

If you have the answer, then you'd best tell the government.

Send all of them home?

That’s not what I said. Grant them asylum OR send them home.

Which data?
Not based on this data which says the opposite

Facts about refugees in the UK - Breaking Barriers https://share.google/8SMbUuClDTJ7EG3rC

I am talking about those arriving in dinghies “ irregular “ as they are referred to now. We do need controlled, managed immigration, not thousands turning up every week requiring accommodation, food etc. We already have those who have come to the U.K. via legal routes , and it is enough to manage that number. What we can’t cope with is those, whether true asylum seekers, economic migrants, criminals, terrorists, drug dealers, who just descend on our shores.

But when people are challenging the fact that allowing in immigrants on boats and granting them asylum is creating massive pressure on our infrastructure, others are saying we need them to fill in the gaps in the NHS. So presumably once they get asylum, this is the role people are wanting us to push them into. Like the NHS isn’t bad enough already….

I do not want abuse in care homes from anyone. That’s my point. The DBS system clearly doesn’t safeguard sufficiently so claiming asylum seekers (who cannot work anyway) will make the situation worse has no basis in fact or evidence. It relies on the belief that all asylum seekers are criminals which is in itself fundamentally racist. The system of vetting those who work in care homes needs to change irrespective of nationality.

Most of the population? Most of the population is the 70+% who would rather eat their own liver than vote Reform and certainly don’t think like you.

Well, it seems a lot on this thread don’t think like you!

BigYellowBus · 26/02/2026 21:58

There are people on this thread who would have cheerfully sent refugees back to Nazi Germany

Thats an entirely different point and has nothing to do with the idea that you can just place these men in care homes and hope for the best.

Which data says all those entering on dinghies fit your list ?

The org which works with refugees asylum seekers says
almost three-quarters (71%) of people we supported in 2024-25 have at least an undergraduate degree or other Level 6 qualification. And 24% hold a master’s degree, PhD or other Level 7/8 qualification. Meanwhile, two-thirds had at least three years’ experience, while 30% had worked for 10 years or more.

This country is in crisis. The lack of healthcare is debilitating people (or killing them), we are scrapping over school places, hospice places, there are sod all graduate jobs, our roads are jammed and pot holed, councils struggle to empty bins even, fly tipping is rife, adult social care is worse than bare bones and we have an Sen crisis. We have homeless people and even fake homeless people. Drugs, violence, theft are all commonplace. Everything is broken, people won’t admit it. Yes we have welcomed refugees in the past but it’s time for another country to take a turn. We are in a bad bad state and the only immigrants we can afford to take are ones who are legal and going to be net contributors (not that I understand why any such person would want to come here when there are far better places to go).

Yes this

Is that you Nigel?
No, they won't. There are strict rules.

I find this whole thread absolutely depressing. We have welcomed refugees for 100s of years and I really hope we can continue.

Agree @Pebbles16

Urm. No.

Friend of mine was shot in the leg by ICE agents. He's a member of the press, with press written over his jacket.
A journalist from Australia was on camera and she was shot deliberately by ICE agents live on TV. She wasn't even facing the agent. Clearly no threat.
The man in Minnesota was already under ICE agents control, on the floor, no threat there and was shot dead.

As I said, the day we go down Trumps USA is the day the UK finally hits rock bottom. It's scary that people like yourself can justify these actions in any way, just to get 'rid' of immigrants.

Rubber bullets? So non-lethal? Why are journalists interfering and bothering law enforcement?

Don't interfere and bother law enforcement during their duties.

suburburban · 26/02/2026 22:09

there has also been problems with students who live here and want to be Drs, physios and Nurses etc studying hard not being able to find jobs because we are filling the vacancies with people from abroad, how is that fair?

Tricket · 26/02/2026 22:16

Newname71 · 26/02/2026 21:51

That’s not what I said. Grant them asylum OR send them home.

It's what I'm saying. We can just not grant it and they have to go home.
