A cottage pie ready meal with ‘use by 25th’ on it!

DS is 7 - will it cause any adverse effects?

Don't be ridiculous.

kohlrabislaw · 26/02/2026 16:17

No I wouldn’t worry at all.

KidsDoBetter · 26/02/2026 16:17

No don’t be daft

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 26/02/2026 16:17

It'll be fine.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/02/2026 16:17

I would imagine it will be fine.

IamSmarticus · 26/02/2026 16:17

Probably not, assuming it had been stored correctly in the fridge/freezer.

Primrose76 · 26/02/2026 16:17

Seriously? A&E. Immediately.

Boomer55 · 26/02/2026 16:18

Of course it won’t.

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 26/02/2026 16:18

It will be fine.

KidsDoBetter · 26/02/2026 16:18

You’d know by now in any case 🤷🏻‍♀️

ExtraOnions · 26/02/2026 16:18

It’s beyond me give people get to Adulthood, and find themselves unable to cope with such an innocuous situation without running to strangers on the Internet.

NaiceCupOTea · 26/02/2026 16:18

He'll be fine. As long it looked and smelt fine and was piping hot.

The use by date is usually the shortest date range from it being made to ensure no accidental food poisonings, so usually fine for a day or two after.

Bluepolkadotteapot · 26/02/2026 16:18

It was in the fridge - cooked in oven for 40 mins

holdtheline11 · 26/02/2026 16:19

Of course it's fine OP.

AmyDudley · 26/02/2026 16:20

I think it will be fine, these things err on the side of caution. Realistically it won't have gone from 'fine' up until midnight on the 25th to 'toxic waste' at one minute past midnight on the 26th.

Likewise!

It's also quite concerning that such people can vote.

Wallywobbles · 26/02/2026 16:20

I despair. Did it smell ok, taste ok and look ok? Presumably yes or he wouldn’t have eaten it. It’s a ready meal so about as chemically stable and likely to go rancid as a macdonalds.

CleanSkin · 26/02/2026 16:20

He may become paranoid about shelf life, if he sees you modelling that behaviour. Otherwise, ill effects are highly unlikely.

Berlinlover · 26/02/2026 16:22

Completely ridiculous post.

ReadingCrimeFiction · 26/02/2026 16:22

I wish the government/supermarkets would do a campaign to explain how food deteriorates. It's a bit like the pregnancy thing - all hese women who think the day before their 35th birthday they're totally fine and the day after .... CRISIS.

Op, she'll be fine. I'd say your Dh is doing a good job of ensuring no food waste by eatig the food that's perfectly safe, but probably on borrowed time

LeedsLoiner · 26/02/2026 16:28

Freeze your joint bank account, contact child services, call a solicitor and LTB right away !

TheMoanerLisa · 26/02/2026 16:28

Do you think food goes off at midnight on their use by date?

If I had £1 everything I had eaten "out of date" I would be a rich woman!

PizzaPowder · 26/02/2026 16:17

Don't be ridiculous.

🤣

Miranda65 · 26/02/2026 16:30

Really, OP?
You should be pleased that your husband isn't wasting food, FFS.

harriethoyle · 26/02/2026 16:32

How are you old enough to reproduce yet don’t know this is fine?

I despair.
