Anyone else get depressed in Spring?

I get SAD the wrong way round. No one else I'm my life has it , but I find spring really depressing and unsettling . Anyone else?

Are you able to pinpoint what it is about spring that makes you depressed?

Have you had previous bad experiences in spring?

Or, is it the pressure to be bright, cheerful and potentially more sociable in the spring/summer time?

BlueStrawbz · 24/02/2026 21:22

I usually do, I figure its my depleted vitamin D stores reaching near empty on a delay from winter? I take vit D now as was low in a blood test so hoping I feel differently this year, because I do enjoy the warmer weather

Mountainoutofamolehill · 24/02/2026 21:34

Yes me, absolutely! I always say I have SAD but the wrong way round.
It's the end of the winter season and means heat is coming. When it's a sunny spring day I'm like ffs. I know I sound nuts but it's true!

AlloaintheMiddle · 24/02/2026 21:42

YES! ME! I love autumn and winter.

Can’t stand spring, don’t get me started on summer…. 🤢

ilovesooty · 24/02/2026 21:43

No. Every day is one day closer to summer.

notmuchtoit · 24/02/2026 21:45

No,I can't bloody wait. It was already light when I left for work this morning and I felt so much better for it.

Luckyingame · 24/02/2026 21:47

Yes, since childhood.
Sympathies.
Favourite month is November. 😐

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/02/2026 21:49

No, just hay-fever.

Philothea · 24/02/2026 21:54

I enjoy the change from winter to spring, but even more so the change from summer to autumn. I dislike the summer - September until end of December is my favourite and I spend the rest of the year looking forward to it.

loopylocks · 24/02/2026 22:10

Same. I love the Autumn and Winter. Feel a bit down about the long bright days ahead. Weird, but it is what it is.

Amber198 · 24/02/2026 22:18

No grudge against spring but March is definitely my least favourite month. Still dark in the evenings, the weather is still cold and often windy and wet. It just seems to be the end of winter dragging on and on. No school holidays and it’s the last month of the pay year for me so never any annual leave left. Wind forward to April and I’m much happier.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 24/02/2026 22:25

I like all of the seasons up to a point. Although I’ve got bloody sick of the rain this winter.

I do enjoy the spring though. I love seeing the flowers beginning to bloom. I think I’m a Spring and autumn person - I like the medium temperatures (although with a preference towards the sunny, slightly warmer side) and I like seeing the seasons changing.

Buddinghell · 24/02/2026 22:27

Yes.
It used to be my least favourite season. Long and dull. I am always broke in March as it’s five weeks and everyone’s birthday. Theres light but then the clocks change and mornings go dark again but still too cold in the evenings to sit out .It’s a bit of everything weather wise but never usefully ie rains too much or it’s warm but only for an afternoon and then theres a sharp frost or whatever.

However.., I love summer. Now I realise peak summer is actually June and then light starts goes again and May is the best garden month.
So Feb and March are now my “action months” . I do a proper exercise and diet regime, stop drinking for Lent and try and get my house and finances in order. That way I am at my best for my favourite time of year.

I’m the same

Ohyeahitsme · 24/02/2026 22:30

Nope. February almost kills me every year (genuinely, my MH takes a nose dive this time of year). Spring is my reward for not dying.

This is EXACTLY the same for me!!!

Apologynotaccepted · 24/02/2026 22:35

There's no trauma or anything related , I think it's the change that I don't like. I quite enjoy summer , have nice summer experiences each year etc but there's something about the change to more light that makes me feel unsettled. Don't feel like I have to be out more, no pressure etc . I enjoy doing my garden etc but I just feel all unsettled and unnerved at this time of year

The same pace of change exists at the opposite end of the year, just in reverse (ie the change from summer to autumn). It doesn’t seem that it’s change that you don’t like?

DinoLil · 24/02/2026 22:42

Me. I dread the clocks going forward, the longer days. Its just too much pressure. Everyone else is going woohoo and I want to crawl back under my duvet.

Snap!

I find Autumn and Winter whizz by way too fast.

Hate the Summer as the days seem never ending and loathe the heat. My Depression is worse during that time too.

illsendansostotheworld · 24/02/2026 22:43

I used to when l was with my ex as l knew he'd spend even more time in the pub while l'd be amusing myself - made me feel really lonely.
Love it these days though!

Bonjovispjs · 24/02/2026 22:44

Nope, spring is my favourite season, love it.

Yeah it definitely is. It's the change. I like the change to autumn as it gets smaller and cosier and there's all the best bits of the year , halloween, loads of birthdays and Christmas

I worked out that the reason that I started to feel stressed in March / April was that my subconscious associated it with exams coming up.

All through my teens and early 20s Easter meant starting exam revision.
