I get SAD the wrong way round. No one else I'm my life has it , but I find spring really depressing and unsettling . Anyone else?

No, I LOVE Spring. New beginnings, flowers blooming, leaves appearing on the trees, warmer weather, longer days, lighter evenings, places opening for you to visit... What's not to love? Smile

The worst part of the year for me is January and February. I hate them. As February goes on I tend to get better as I can see a light at the end of the tunnel, but I can't wait for March/Spring.

And I LOVE the summer!

Sorry Springtime makes you feel blue @Apologynotaccepted 😘

No. The spring is such a relief for me.

I heard 17 different types of birds on my lunchtime walk today. It was quite a spectacular sound. The birds are definitely in the mood for spring.

I hate spring, but it just confuses me mainly.

People start talking about spring in March/April, but as far as I am concerned that is really still winter, and "brighter days and warmer weather" rarely starts until May, if you are lucky.

March and April are cold, wet and muddy with a bright white flat light, that makes everything seem grey. Winter has been going on forever, and the shops start getting nice summer clothes when you are still wearing oodies round the house.

me too I feel like I should be migrating like a bird somewhere else

Outoutoutout · 25/02/2026 21:35

Yes. I read a good article a number of years ago suggesting it can be caused by a serotonin lag from the increased light/sunlight, similar to how some antidepressants (SSRIs) can make people feel worse in the first few weeks.

Spring I like. Summer...hate it. Someone else mentioned it, but for me it's the heat (we're SE England and we get lots of heat) plus the overwhelming feeling that I should be out and about loving life.

This podcast talks about summer SAD. It's pretty interesting. I couldn't link to it, so this is a screenshot.

It's literally the most joyful season! Everything restarting, life renewing, births/hatching of new lives across the natural world, perfect birdwatching because the leaves don't yet obscure everything, and the optimism of planning the year's garden.

The only thing that gets me through the dark, damp days of January and February is the promise of spring.

Plus, obviously, daffodils.

its your life thats shit not the time of year (applies to all SAD).

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Really nasty post and not borne out by any poster on here

Also completely lacking in evidence. SAD is pretty well researched and evidenced.

WhatNoRaisins · 26/02/2026 07:42

I think that poster must have their own shit to deal with.

RampantIvy · 26/02/2026 08:28

In my case, one of the reasons I prefer longer, lighter days, apart from SAD, is that I have poor eyesight and see so much better in brighter weather. So, for me, it is a physical neccessity. Plus I can get my vitamin D more naturally.

Not a fan of spring but I hate and dread every single second of the summer. Ironically I love holidays in hot countries but the difference is I don't have to adult while I do that and there's a cold swimming pool for me too.

WFH in a 38 degree house when all the open patio doors bring is endless flies and the cats moult like there's no tomorrow is not my idea of fun. I also had a hysterectomy last year so this year I have my menopausal internal central heating to compete with as well! Oh and I go to bed at 9pm which is no good when it's still light.

(My winter thermostat is set at 10 degrees)
