Holidays - What have you seen to make you go urghh!

Just come back from a one week cruise, unfortunately due to my job I can only travel during school holidays. Some of the things I saw made me go urghh:
-Woman changing her baby on a chair in a public area- no changing mat, baby room a few steps away. Never sat in that area during the rest of the cruise.
-People not washing their hands or using hand sanitizer before eating in the buffet
-Parents letting their little darlings run around the buffet and ship/put their feet on chairs/walk across chairs/sit on tables! Why?
-Letting children sit with a tablet on full volume
-Facetime conversations you can't help but overhear
-Constant bleeps and blings when people send/receive mobile messages especially when trying to listen to a guide.
-Seeing families sat together all looking at their mobiles.
I will say there were some lovely people on the cruise.

Had a lovely holiday but where has consideration for other travellers or people gone?

Babe, I don't think you're cut out for being around others.

FreshInks · 21/02/2026 19:17

I hate threads that are created to encourage posters to make nasty comments about other people

Breadandbutta · 21/02/2026 19:18
  • A woman whose vomitting child was laying all over the tables in the cafe, while she was jovially telling the staff at the reception desk that he'd been up all night vomitting

  • People who just stop walking in front of you and don't have any awareness that they need to move to the side so as to not block your path

  • Holidaymakers without kids, that lay within inches of the shallow end of the pool to sunbathe, who then complain when the children are splashing them 🙄

  • "brits abroad" families

Edited to add: I think some people just genuinely really lack awareness of others!

All of the issues you list could be experienced in a hotel (or anywhere with people) so it’s not a cruise-specific problem

don't tell us, you are on holiday right now, stuck to your phone with the sound blasting on? 😂

YourGreenCat · 21/02/2026 19:22

OP, nothing in your post is holiday-related.

People are rude and obnoxious, sadly, but they are rude and obnoxious anywhere.

Bloke wandering round Miami with a bloody great albino python round his neck. I swear, everywhere we went, there was he! Obviously he follows the tourist spots. My husband has a phobia of snakes.

Benidorm…

B1anche · 21/02/2026 19:25

A thing that made me go urggh was when I was enjoying a lovely lunch on a Greek Island, and two cats decided to have sex about a metre from our table. It was revolting.

damsello · 21/02/2026 19:25

Donkeys struggling to carry (often overweight) people up steep hills to see a sunset or something.

Echobelly · 21/02/2026 19:26

When I was a kid, and I don't think you see it anymore, when on holiday by a beach in Europe there always seemed to be at least one family with a pre-schooler/toddler walking around naked except for a bucket hat, and always with a snot-encrusted nose it seemed. But maybe that phenomenon was unique to the 80s!

mynameiscalypso · 21/02/2026 19:26

My current bugbear is parents who don’t supervise their children in hotel pools, particularly small pools where there are rules about not running/jumping/diving. I understand children like to do those things but if my 6 year old can understand that it’s not safe and inherently selfish to ruin other people’s time in the pool, I don’t see why they can’t.

Itsmetheflamingo · 21/02/2026 19:27

I had national trust places. Always full of wankers who can’t park.

NormasArse · 21/02/2026 19:29

Cruise ships spoiling my view.

Not joking either, they’re ugly and mega polluting, and bring little revenue into ports, other than the fees they pay to dock.

hewassoungrateful · 21/02/2026 19:29

Women in a minuscule thong bikini sitting with no towel under her on a wooden barstool. Her entire naked arse and most of her vag was on that seat. Grim. Not to mention, surely uncomfortable?

Babsandherwabs · 21/02/2026 19:30

Don’t see it much so when I do it really stands out, and not a holiday thing but more noticeable in summer - people who let their toddlers walk around with saggy full nappies.

properidiot · 21/02/2026 19:30

Sounds like cruises that allow children in the school summer holidays are not the best bet for you! Try a nice quiet villa next time then you'll have all the peace you want.

I do agree with you pretty much though especially with the ipads and electronics on full volume - drives me mad when they're on in public, especially restaurants.

I saw the same in Memphis a few years ago, thankfully I was in a bar and he was across the street.

God knows what I would have been.like if I'd been in the street!

This would make me cry. I swear to God, I couldn’t go anywhere I’d see that as my holiday would be instantly ruined. When it comes to animals, I simply cannot get things out of my head.
I am overweight (albeit 5 1/2 stone lighter than I was! 🥳) and I would never go on a donkey. Why are some people so deluded and selfish? Doesn’t it occur to them that they’re making an animal suffer? I’d like to ride them like a fucking donkey, see how they like it.
One thing I hate is mess. Again, don’t people think of those who are expected to clean it up? Doesn’t it make them sad?

I'm not a babe and I like being around people who are not either entitled, self absorbed or obnoxious. It's just show some consideration for others.

I was at a carvery place in my own town yesterday.. A couple on loud speaker discussing challenging a will. Very bloody disrespectful to the dead imo. Wonder if the woman on the other end knew how many people could hear her clawing her way to someone's dead fortune?

True, but poor behaviour is becoming more common.

When you get on a (international) holiday cruise you could be with literally anyone though? You can’t control it.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 21/02/2026 19:34

I went on a girls holiday to Benidorm, picked on the basis that it was in the quieter old-town but a cheap break.

Hotel was nice.

One loud Dad was outraged he couldn't send his 14yo boy to the bar to buy a drink or fags for him.

Another family supplied their toddlers in high chairs with cans of pepsi out of the vending machines at breakfast.

This. Cruise ships are dreadful for the environment and shit for the places they visit. About one road gets financial benefit but everyone else suffers.

OP you did something antisocial, and you’re complaining about the people who did it with you being antisocial. <shrug>
