I think this is part of the reason that Virginia Giuffre wasn’t taken seriously. There were some things that she alleged that turned out to be provably false, which then allowed all her allegations to be discredited in the court of public opinion.
I think she was a troubled soul, but that’s not surprising given what she’d been through. Trauma takes its toll.
Had she been more of a “perfect victim” I wonder if more people would have listened and believed what she’d been subjected to. Mind you, even if they had I don’t think anyone would have believed the unspeakable depravity that seems to have occurred.
So I think people who are naturally sceptical will see posts that are claiming wild things and assume the whole thing is just overblown nonsense. And I think that’s supported by the fact that very little seems to be happening in the US about it. I heard it reported on the BBC last night that the US doesn’t anticipate making any arrests 😳
So unless people wade through the documents for themselves, they’ll probably just think it’s a bunch of wealthy guys that were partying with barely legal girls and hey man, that was the 80s.
Of course, that’s not the reality but if people are just reading the headlines they’ll go on what seems to be plausible and what seems like too incredible to be true, especially with scant objective proof.
I don’t believe this has stopped. It will still be going on in some form. Wealthy men will have found a different enabler and learnt to be more careful.
I’m not a conspiracy theorist at all but I do think this thing runs way deeper than we all realise, even now.
