Are you now more likely to vote for REFORM (the party)

NC for this and apologies if Q already asked. My quick search yielded no result.

Reform plan to undo the reversal of 2 child cap benefit. Are you now likely (or more likely) to vote for them? There have been endless threads about the welfare bill.

Do you care about Farage's Russia links?

Oh dear yet another conspiracy theory to shoot down.

So exactly what Farage Russian links are you referring to?

Apart from Farage appearing on the Russian state-affiliated television channel RT prior to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine .

Alex Salmond, Jeremy Corbyn, George Gallaway and David Davies have also appeared on RT - do you suggest that they have Russian links as well.

Farage's comment on Putin was in 2014, in response to a question about the current world leader he admires the most, Mr Farage said: “As an operator, but not as a human being, I would say Putin."

Do you equally object to Obama's compliments on Putin?

110,000 wanted to come enough to physically get themselves here. So you don't think many multiples of this number would apply if all they had to do was fill in a form on line. Naive to the point of ridiculous.

If you think that those who fill in a form online would just be put on a plane to the UK because they'd ticked all the right boxes, you're the one who is naive to the point of ridiculous. You probably also think those who arrive by small boat are only given a few forms to fill in and then being allowed to stay.

No I think a "safe and legal route" would be absolutely swamped with applications (millions of applications) with no way of actually determining who to grant asylum to.

That makes zero sense. Do you really think there would not be interviews and screening in the way that there is for those who are actually on our shores? Nobody would accept a system being set up to work that way. You're actually fearmongering yourself here.

You also make it sound as if the UK is the only place people will want to go to, which is ridiculous.

How many people do you think there are in the world that are unsafe and would like to come to the UK?

We know there are 8 billion people in the world. We know there are a lot of people living in areas that are unsafe/oppressive. So how many do you think? I'll start with every woman in Afganistan having a legitimate claim (not allowed out without a chaperone, must be covered up, must not be seen even in her own house or garden....)

We also know that 110,000 (I think was the number quoted) wanted to come enough to physically get themselves here to claim asylum whether that was on a small boat, a student visa or some other physical route into the UK.

I think a billion people would have a legitimate claim. That's assuming that 1 in 8 people in the world live in an unsafe /oppressive regime and would like to come to the uk if all they had to do was fill in a Web based application.

I work with a lot of Nigerian people. They have sold up small holdings, left jobs and paid £££ to move here because they feel Nigeria is unsafe for them. The population of Nigeria alone is over 230, 000, 000.

How many people do you think have a legitimate claim for asylum to live here?

I’m sorry, do you think I’m the Home Office?

Lots of people live in oppression, not all of them want to come to the UK.

I am not going to guess how many people want to seek asylum in the UK specifically, because that would be a guess and nothing more. Just like what you’re doing, plucking numbers from thin air to exaggerate something you don’t even the facts for.

You can’t know that millions of people would use a system that currently doesn’t exist, and you cannot know how many of them would be successful in their claims.

I think you missed the point on your Nigeria comment btw. You work with a lot of Nigerians. They’re not in the asylum system, because you can’t work when you are. They’re migrants, who are contributing to our workforce - many of them will have come on student, sponsored or other work visas. Which isn’t asylum.

‘So Reform has said they would scrap the Equalities Act…without this…
^^
I can refuse to hire you because you are a white man
^^
I can sack you because of who you love
^^
I can ask who you voted for before I let you in a public space and refuse entry if you say Reform.
^^
I can refuse to promote you and promote a poorly qualified person based purely on gender.
^^
If you’re in a redundancy situation I can make you redundant on the basis of your age and disability alone.
^^
I can sack you because I think you’re too old to do your job because you’re over 50
^^
I can refuse to hire you on the basis you’ve only got a few years to retirement
^^
I can tell your daughter she cant have her job back after maternity leave because now she’s a mum, she’s not dedicated enough (she won’t forgive you for voting reform by the way).
^^
I can refuse to let you in a pub because white men have always caused trouble in there before and I just assume you’re the same.
^^
I can sack you because your menopause symptoms have made you a less efficient worker.
^^
Without the equalities act, each one of those injustices would be completely legal.

Reform are saying ‘I want to remove your rights and protections’ with their whole chests and you lot are fawning over them because you hate people who don’t look like you more than you love anything.’

No estimate of how many people would qualify and apply to a safe legal route from yourself then.

Ageism and nepotism is rife at the moment, so no difference there

Currently minoritues are favoured over the white working class. Abolishing the equalities act will make it a level playing field for them

No, I’m not going to throw arbitrary made up numbers around - even if you’re happy to. It’s pointless, but you can frighten yourself with imaginary numbers if you wish.

It’s not about applications and arrivals - it’s about how many are ultimately approved and stay. In an actual functioning system, that could be managed.

Would you prefer either unsafe arrivals or no asylum whatsoever?

Currently minoritues are favoured over the white working class.

Evidence for that statement?

I mean, I'm technically a minority, being both foreign and middle class. But I got my jobs on merit. Because out of the total pool of candidates who applied, I was the best. There were other jobs that I didn't get - and I accepted that this was because there were better candidates on the day.

I don't understand the need to play the victim.

This question seems to be specific to you because it's a well know fact that large organisations, esp multinationals (which also tend to be the best paying and most desirable employers) bend backwards to attract minorities employees.
I personally witnessed multiple cases where there was a white middle age middle class male candidate who was perfect, but also minority one (double bonus if female) who "would do" and that second candidate was chosen to hit diversity targets.

I'm POC by the way.

It is about arrivals because barely anyone that arrives is removed.
4% of people arriving on small boats have been removed.

"Safe and legal routes" is a meaningless soundbite like "smash the gangs" without any actual policy of how you reconcile pretty much infinite demand with a British public that is fed up of high levels of immigration.

What I want is immigration limited to what Britain decides are our priorities as anything else is unworkable so for example x number of people from Ukraine or x number from Afganistan who helped the British Army in conflict.

How many people are returned from the UK ?

Can you explain what you believe those "Russian links" are aside from appearing on RT or his comment on Putin.

Have you worked in HR for a large multinational.

I have worked with HR in a large multinational.
The American team had to have it explained to them in painstaking detail that the laws regarding employment were different in the UK to America. Specifically some of the affirmative action policies that the company was able to put into practice in the US were banned in the UK because of... The Equality Act.

You are not allowed, in the UK to hire a less qualified candidate on the basis of their race/sex/religion. Even if you think it's bad there aren't enough minorities in the field. Even if you think straight white men are evil you can't discriminate on the basis of that. If there was even a hint that you were you could cost thé company lots of money. If we got rid of the EA we could discriminate.

I can talk about this ad finitum because I already had the same painstaking discussions with American managers. Multinational or not companies have to follow employment law of the country they are operating in. The EA protects against the very thing making you angry.
