AIBU to Serve Pancakes as Dinner Tonight?

It’s Shrove Tuesday, DS finishes at holiday club soon and I don’t think anyone is going to eat an entire dinner AND pancakes this evening so thinking of doing pancakes with a few healthy ‘bits’ on the side, possibly a few savoury pancakes. Lazy or justified?

Pancakes, cheese and bacon followed by pancakes and dessert bits here

Bikergran · 17/02/2026 18:40

We just finished dinner. Pancakes with creamy spinach and Boursin filling, followed by pancakes with ice-cream and hot chocolate sauce. 😋😋😋😋😋

This takes me back to a fab restaurant in San Francisco years ago called The Magic Pan. Crepes were pretty much all they sold with every sort of filling, savoury or sweet, you could imagine. The perfect combination for me was a brocolli soufflé pancake to start then a banana chantilly pancake for dessert.

HeartyBlueRobin · 17/02/2026 18:48

Pancakes with lemon and sugar for dinner when we were children. If you were hungry afterwards there was toast!

Endofyear · 17/02/2026 18:48

A local café here does big crepes filled with brie, bacon and cranberry sauce - they are omg delicious! I'd definitely just do pancakes, when my now-adult sons were younger, they could eat their bodyweight in pancakes!

We only have pancakes for tea on Pancake day. Savoury ones followed by sweet ones. This how we did it as kids. My husband thought it was weird 1st pancake day together though as they only had one sweet one for dessert. He loves it now though 😋

firstofallimadelight · 17/02/2026 19:02

I did cheese and bacon pancakes and lemon and sugar ones

Gentlydoesit2 · 17/02/2026 19:07

Go for it!! 🥞

Nothingspecialhere · 17/02/2026 20:35

We had pancakes for dinner with ice cream, Nutella, biscoff spread, golden syrup, sugar and squirty cream (yes - all mixed together!) Only one night, I remember it vividly as a child, so will continue this for my kids!

JabbaJibba · 17/02/2026 20:46

As today is Chinese New Year and Pancake Day we had pancakes with fruit for lunch and Chinese for dinner!

BurntBroccoli · 17/02/2026 20:50

Absolutely fine!
They are really filling plus pancakes take ages to make!

Surely this year, crispy duck with pancakes is the answer to this quandary?

This is exactly what we did

JaceLancs · 17/02/2026 20:53

I had one savoury (ham and Mexican cheese) DS had 2
Then a few lemon and sugar ones

SusiQ18472638 · 17/02/2026 20:53

Its tradition for pancake day in our house, savoury cheese and ham pancake first and sweet pancakes afterwards!

If they take ages to make you might be doing it wrong. Obviously if you're making 50 it might take a while but each one individually is really quick

Muffsies · 17/02/2026 20:58

I made pancakes for dinner, with a selection of unhealthy toppings.

My mum used to make pancakes for dinner, too. But, beung Irish, she would also make corned beef fritters with some of the batter because you can't have a meal without at least a bit of meat involved incase her children should starve to death and she get thrown in bad mum prison.

Celiathebanshee · 17/02/2026 16:43

We don’t even bother with healthy bits. It’s just pancakes. One day a year!

This. Just sweet pancakes. No healthy bits (well I did have a banana with chocolate sauce).

You are my spirit animal - I just had Chinese for tea too!

purplecorkheart · 17/02/2026 21:07

Only that I had leftovers to use up I would have done the same. Maybe findus crispy pancake style. Had pancakes with sugar and lemon instead but will definitely plan better next year and it will be pancakes for dinner

TiredofLDN · 17/02/2026 21:21

DS has pancakes for breakfast AND dinner today.
someone call social services!

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 17/02/2026 21:23

Never. We always had them for dinner on pancake day as a child, as my dad was the pancake maker of the house, so we had to wait for him to come home

liveforsummer · 17/02/2026 21:24

Pancakes are a meal. Just have some savoury fillings. We have them all year round. Bonus that they cover both main and dessert

Berlinlover · 17/02/2026 21:45

Isn’t that what everyone is doing?

readingmakesmehappy · 17/02/2026 22:01

We always do savoury pancakes followed by sweet pancakes for tea on Shrove Tuesday!

MB34 · 17/02/2026 22:02

Totally lazy....but doesn't everyone do this?! 😁
This is one day a year that I'm not slaving over a meal that they won't eat anyway, only to bring out the pancakes which they'll devour. May as well just skip to the good part 😄
