To ask for help deciding on a London theatre show?

I really can’t decide, the more I look into London shows, the more get added to my wishlist.

So far, I have seen: Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, Wicked, Nye, Calamity Jane, The Lion King, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Beautiful and Motown: The Musical. There must be others that I’ve forgotten about too.

My top contenders this time round are: The Phantom of the Opera, Hamilton and the Book of Mormon.

The Phantom of the Opera is amazing!

I enjoyed Book of Mormon.

I loved Matilda.

On my list for this year is Pride the Musical.

TheTwenties · 16/02/2026 23:25

Hamilton and Matilda are both absolutely fantastic

PabloEscoBear · 16/02/2026 23:25

Loved Hamilton - so good I’ve seen it a few times, and would go again.

Wasn’t remotely fussed by Book of Mormon.

Haven’t seen Phantom, but it’s on my list.

Advent0range · 16/02/2026 23:26

Phantom! It's a classic.

We’re going to book to see Pride: The Musical too. Thanks for the reminder, I should book the tickets very soon.

Les mis and moulin rouge

gototogo · 16/02/2026 23:36

Phantom is amazing, I read that miss Saigon is coming back, that’s my favourite of all.

Piknik · 16/02/2026 23:43

Moulin Rouge if you want a spectacle. Set's are gorgeous

HostessTrolley · 16/02/2026 23:45

Les mis x

Completely agree with this

bellabelly · 16/02/2026 23:51

Hamilton was v good but I would also recommend Operation Mincemeat at the Fortune Theatre - really fantastic!

Ithinkofawittyusernamethenforgetit · 16/02/2026 23:52

Hadestown and The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry (though this has a very short run and finishes soon).

YesSirICanNameChange · 16/02/2026 23:53

If you like the sound of Hamilton and Book of Mormon, Operation Mincemeat is a must see. It's outstanding.

BangFlash · 16/02/2026 23:54

Mousetrap. Classic in a lovely old theatre.

HomelessAngua · 16/02/2026 23:55

Another vote for Operation Mincemeat.

Mapletreelane · 16/02/2026 23:56

The new production of Oliver is incredible. Up there with Hamilton and Phantom for me (les Mis will always be my no 1)

KimonoQueen · 16/02/2026 23:58

Mincemeat is fab. I recommend Into the Woods at the Bridge Theatre too

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 16/02/2026 23:58

Phantom
moulin rouge
les mis
hamilton

Book of Mormon is good but it’s been on for 10+ years and doesn’t seem that edgy anymore!

The Producers is fab and Cabaret if it’s still on

KeepOffTheQuinoa · 16/02/2026 23:59

I loved Harold Fry.

Mincemeat is brilliant

I found Hamilton boring

Candymay · 17/02/2026 00:00

Many many years ago I saw a thread on mn. It was an aibu and said something like- you need to sell everything you have and get tickets for Hamilton. This was the first time I heard about this musical.
anyway, fortunately I took heed and have seen it many times since. I have also told many other people the same thing. Sell everything. See Hamilton.

I’ve seen phantom but on Broadway. Les Mis is incredible. Miss Saigon is coming back.
Book of Mormon was ok but nowhere near as good as the others mentioned. Matilda is lovely and mainly because I’m a huge Tim Minchin fan.
I go to the theatre a lot but my goodness Hamilton is everything!

Meredusoleil · 17/02/2026 00:01

Phantom of the opera is very good.
Titanique was fun and just so good too

Hadestown

Cyd4 · 17/02/2026 00:03

It depends what you’re into…I wouldn’t be interested in most of the shows mentioned (although I agree that Matilda and Mincemeat are brilliant!).

Tom Stoppards ‘Arcadia’ at The Old Vic is (imho) the finest production on at the moment. Usually at least one decent show on at The National too.

MagicMarkers · 17/02/2026 00:06

Back to the Future: The Musical.
