To ask for help deciding on a London theatre show?

I really can’t decide, the more I look into London shows, the more get added to my wishlist.

So far, I have seen: Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, Wicked, Nye, Calamity Jane, The Lion King, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Beautiful and Motown: The Musical. There must be others that I’ve forgotten about too.

My top contenders this time round are: The Phantom of the Opera, Hamilton and the Book of Mormon.

Sorry for derailing the thread, but The National Theatre have posted that there will be a free YouTube premiere of the new production of The Importance of Being Earnest on the 12th of March at 7pm.

I love Oscar Wilde, so I’ll definitely be watching!

Anyone else?

Can I recommend the ‘NT At Home’ for anyone who enjoys theatre? It’s amazing value - about a tenner a month and you can cancel whenever. It’s an app - I watch on the TV or on my phone whilst making dinner.

Great for any teens studying Shakespeare!

pretty sure Ernest is available on that soon too!

Oh thank heavens- I thought I was the only person who really didn't enjoy Hadestown. I actually had to leave at the interval, which have never done for any other show.

I’m really surprised to hear this - I get that people have different likes and dislikes but it’s not so out there it would upset with being not what is expected from a musical and the performers (particularly the chorus) are excellent (or were when went). Having to leave seems a strong reaction.

Phantom and Moulin Rouge are my top two stand outs.

saw Moulin Rouge recently and the male singers were all incredible, especially the lead Christian.

Honestly, I couldn't stop laughing- was so bad. Especially when they kept talking about Orpheus and his beautiful song, then he came out and wandered around singing "laaaah. Lah lah laaaah". Wasn't fair on others if I had stayed. I'm normally a very courteous theatre goer. Have sat through a lot of performances that weren't to my taste. But I just couldn't with this one.

I actually get you abput Orpheus - he was the weak character and singer for me. Not enough to cause hilarity and leaving though! Each to his/her own…
