Spa day alone

Would you?

I think it sounds like heaven. A massage and facial, a sauna, hydrotherapy pool, sitting on a heated recliner in a dark room with no expectations from anyone else. Just time dedicated to relaxing.

My friend thinks it’s weird and going to the spa is something you do with friends and would be boring alone. She says just book a massage somewhere else rather than the spa if I want one.

Is it weird to go alone?

I did an overnight one alone a few years back when the kids were younger and every minute of my time was accounted for. Turns out it was just what I needed!

I did feel a bit self conscious but I enjoyed myself and I particularly enjoyed having quiet time to myself and not having to do anything for anyone. I also had the best night's sleep I had had in a very long time.
Enjoy every moment.

I would love it, but I like being on my own. I used to go to the cinema on my own and was told I was weird. But if I wanted to see something and no on else did, I just did what I wanted x

People who wait to have other people with them to do anything miss out on a huge amount of life’s joys imo

Sometimes what you really want is your own company too. Spa days with friends can be fun, but if you’re looking for pure relaxation, it’s better on your own.

My favourite part of our Center Parcs trips have been when our youngest was too little for the kids unaccompanied activities so DH stayed with her and I had a 3 hour spa session alone - used the steam rooms, relaxed on the water beds, had a swim! It was heaven!

your friend is definitely the weird one here

I've been several times on my own, a whole day just for me, perfect.

I must add, when I was younger and went on a spa day with a friend there was a woman there by herself.
I kept looking at her out the corner of my eye, I couldn't help myself but I felt so envious of her, she just seemed fabulous, sort of like a proper grown up.
I wanted to talk to her, tell her she looked great, ask her about herself (to be fair it was 20 years ago and it was more unheard of than now).
I realised that I was looking and stopped so i am proof that if you catch anyone looking there's a very good chance its because they think you are amazing.

Friend sounds immature.
Does she need her hand held everywhere she goes?

I go away on a solo break to a 'destination' spa for a few days most years, I love it. Completely free to do what I want, when I want, in utter comfort and even luxury.
There's great food and superb facilities. I feel relaxed and cocooned from the outside world.
There are plenty of people around if I do want to chat, which I do sometimes.

I was given one and was really looking forward to it. Honestly after lunch a steam, a swim, a sauna, hot tub, little doze, a read, repeat all,I was climbing the walls. But my treatments were late on. Maybe it was a shite spa(it was all Temple Spa products and having to pay for juice and coffee).

Just to update I had my spa day yesterday. Had a swim then sauna then sat in the heated loungers by the pool for a bit before having my treatment (massage and facial-65 mins total). After the treatment I was taken to another room, given an eye mask and headphones and put on what felt like a pulsing waterbed for half an hour. It was a bit odd to begin with but was actually very relaxing and a nice bonus as it felt like an extra massage.
Then I had lunch before going in the dark relaxation room for a bit. I then went in the hydrotherapy pool before finishing off in the other relaxation room. The day went really fast and I barely even read my book!

The only thing was that I hadn’t factored in that it was valentines weekend and so there were loads of couples. Not a problem in itself but it was hard to find somewhere to sit poolside and in the relaxation room. Also in the restaurant they’d run out of loads of choices and they’d also run out of tables so sat me at a table with a couple at the other end so I felt a bit like I was intruding on their romantic spa day.

Have another one booked for a few weeks time (but with dh next time).

Ah yes, bloody Valentines Day. I'm in Baden-Baden at the moment. The spa was full of young couples. At least they have a separate (nude) sauna area.
