Spa day alone

Would you?

I think it sounds like heaven. A massage and facial, a sauna, hydrotherapy pool, sitting on a heated recliner in a dark room with no expectations from anyone else. Just time dedicated to relaxing.

My friend thinks it’s weird and going to the spa is something you do with friends and would be boring alone. She says just book a massage somewhere else rather than the spa if I want one.

Is it weird to go alone?

How would anyone even know? You’re supposed to be quiet in a spa. Two people shouldn’t be chatting in a sauna or in relaxation areas anyway when people are trying to unwind. It’s not a pub. I have no idea who is there alone or in pairs when I go. Your friend needs to get used to her own company, it seems! YANBU.

Yes!

LadyHexham · 10/02/2026 11:28

Absolutely gorgeous alone.
Do what you want, when you want, it's great.

First time I went alone was when we had a business which required me to speak and interact with people all day.
I went alone so I didn't have to talk to anyone and loved it.

Ughhhhh77 · 10/02/2026 11:34

I went alone when DD was a baby and it was the nicest day. I took a book but didn’t even read it, I just zoned out all day it was so relaxing. My friends thought I was mad I didn’t ask anybody to join me but I was so touched out I needed alone time without having to entertain or consider anybody else’s needs for the day. Enjoy OP! Highly recommended!

Diplidocus4 · 10/02/2026 11:35

Have done and will do. Total bliss for me

LLJETO · 10/02/2026 11:38

I was just thinking I might do the same. I had a lovely spa day recently with my sisters and mum as a present, but I felt like I didn’t get to enjoy it as much as I probably would have done as we have been getting some major work done in the house and it was upside down and really stressful for me.

I may treat myself again as it was really lovely overall.

SP2024 · 10/02/2026 11:39

I have because I really wanted to go, but I’d much prefer to go with friends

NewYearNewJob2024 · 10/02/2026 11:41

Absolutely not unreasonable at all!!! I think I’m going to start doing this regularly!
Enjoy your day!!! :-)

Gerbera55 · 10/02/2026 11:48

My 6mo had a day with his dad at the weekend while I went to the spa for a day by myself. It was heavenly - I read, ate (a hot) lunch with both hands, relaxed and had a massage. I got a couple of funny looks when I was eating alone from one group of women but they also completely ignored the fact that one of the pools was a quiet zone and had full blown conversations in there so I don’t think they understand the concept of a relaxing spa day to be honest!

teaandtoastwouldbenice · 10/02/2026 11:51

Go, enjoy. I’ve started doing things I want to alone - I’m not waiting for friends to have the money/time/interest and I’ve married a hermit so..

Slightyamusedandsilly · 10/02/2026 11:52

Bloody hell, a solo spa day is my idea of perfection.

TheKateColumbo · 10/02/2026 12:01

I love a solo spa. I go to a college twice a month. £30 for a full body massage and an hour in the spa. Perfect.

Chinsupmeloves · 10/02/2026 17:48

I've been to several on my own, bliss! If you enjoy and value alone time do it. It's nice with friends as well but just not having to talk, do what you want when you want is such a treat. Xxx

1000StrawberryLollies · 10/02/2026 17:50

Of course YANBU. I've only ever been to spas alone. For me it's about peace and relaxation, not being sociable!

EsmeSusanOgg · 10/02/2026 17:52

I did this in the autumn. Had headphones and a good podcast for the relaxation room.

Total bliss. I had some much needed time off after a super busy time at work (genuinely clocked up an additional 140 hours work on top of full time hours over the course of 6 weeks).

No one else was free. So I decided to sod it, and book a spa day for just me.

Highly recommend. It was incredibly relaxing. And just... Quiet. I am exceedingly good way.

NongKhai · 10/02/2026 17:56

Anyone recommend a nice day spa in Central/North or East London?

Greedybilly · 10/02/2026 17:58

Go for it! Your friends are the weird ones for not having the guts!

dollyblue01 · 10/02/2026 18:00

Not weird no, I would do it on my own, tbf I think it’s more relaxing that way.

Sheepsmellnice · 10/02/2026 18:01

It sounds fantastic have a wonderful time

MummingIt2018 · 10/02/2026 18:03

I hate it when friends suggest a spa day, completely ruins it for me being there with other people. Would much rather go alone with a book 😊

Hankunamatata · 10/02/2026 18:12

Id love it especially if its quiet. Good book and nice cocktail

Granof5 · 10/02/2026 18:12

I absolutely love doing this on my own. I feel so relaxed afterwards

mamaduckbone · 10/02/2026 18:14

Not weird at all, although I’ve never done it. I have a spa voucher from
my birthday to use and I’m contemplating sloping off on my own but haven’t quite decided if I’d be a bit self conscious. It does sound like heaven though.

I’m lucky to have a membership at a nice gym that has a lovely spa. I often go on own! It’s so relaxing, it is nice to go with a friend but not strange to go on your own!

PrismRain · 10/02/2026 18:18

YANBU. People that go a spa to have ‘fun’ are supremely irritating because they inevitably spend their time there shrieking at each other and disturbing everyone else who went there to do what a spa is actually designed for.
