Spa day alone

Bluehead · 10/02/2026 06:50

Would you?

I think it sounds like heaven. A massage and facial, a sauna, hydrotherapy pool, sitting on a heated recliner in a dark room with no expectations from anyone else. Just time dedicated to relaxing.

My friend thinks it’s weird and going to the spa is something you do with friends and would be boring alone. She says just book a massage somewhere else rather than the spa if I want one.

Is it weird to go alone?

Alone is fine! Been to the cinema, to gigs alone too. Spa would be lovely alone, curled up with a good book in between appointments, doing what you want, when you want.

I was going to go on a Norway cruise last year, but never got around to it. Was going to leave the better half at home, looking after the animals. But I really wanted to revisit a country I lived in as a kid doing it the way I wanted without having to worry about him indoors.

I did a spa day alone last year and loved it. Had Afternoon tea there as well. It was bliss. Spa days with friends are fun, but I can only totally and completely relax in my own company. I have a very 'peopley' job and sometimes I just don't want any pressure to be social.

Walker1178 · 10/02/2026 18:37

I’d take that ‘me time’ and totally love it! Who chats away when they’re getting a massage/facial anyway?!?

GingerKombucha · 10/02/2026 18:45

A friend of mine tried to invite herself on my spa day, I had to very politely decline. In my head, bars and restaurants are for socialising, spas are for peace and calm alone.

I'm going to Rudding Park tomorrow on my own for a day. 2 books packed, not planning to speak to anyone.
Not odd at all

Ooh wow, Rudding Park is a sensational spa! Enjoy!

Ghyllscramble · 10/02/2026 18:55

I much prefer going on my own, no risk of getting bogged down in some conversation or other I don't find relaxing, and you can wander about/move rooms etc freely without having to suggest it to anyone. Slight exception would be if there's something really unusual and beautiful about the spa, a really one-off memorable experience of some sort, as it's nice to then share the 'wow' moment with someone and re-live it later. But yes most of the time I'd look forward to going by myself more.

TamarindCottage · 10/02/2026 19:03

Your friend is nuts. Ignore her, book it and enjoy your spa day

Anonanonanonagain · 10/02/2026 19:03

Your friend is odd. I LOVE a solo spa day. After weeks or months of parenting, working, cooking, cleaning bla bla there is nothing better than a few hours of bliss and silence to yourself !

cestlavielife · 10/02/2026 19:07

You want quiet and pampering not a hen party... so go and enjoy!

TomMorrow · 10/02/2026 19:13

I have one booked next month. I’ve got a treatment, followed by an hour of spa time. I’ll probably treat myself to a solo lunch afterwards. I can’t wait!

Swiftsmith · 10/02/2026 19:15

I've done spa days alone and its so relaxing. Once stayed overnight at a spa hotel alone. Highly recommend. Bring a good book and enjoy!

NinaNina83 · 10/02/2026 19:15

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to go on your own if you like it, definitely! I went on my own once and didn’t enjoy it as i prefer going with a friend. Depends on what you like.

Millymolly99 · 10/02/2026 19:19

LoveWine123 · 10/02/2026 06:55

Sounds like your friend is too self-conscious to enjoy a spa day on her own. Go and enjoy yourself!

That was my problem. I did a spa half-day on my own, and felt ridiculously self conscious. All the other guests were in 2s or 3s. I felt like Billy No Mates

MakeMineAMilkyTea · 10/02/2026 19:19

I LOVE going to the spa by myself. Guess what I am doing Saturday? Gym then a sauna and chilling by the pool! It’s how I spend my childfree none work days as well. Role on inset day in June so I can chill 🤣

PeloMom · 10/02/2026 19:22

I just had a spa day with DH. It as one of those where you’re guided from room to room - eg sauna followed by hydro pool followed by whatever and so on. All rooms were quiet. Although there were few people in the spa no one was talking to anyone. I saw no difference whether I was with someone or alone. In fact if I were alone, I would have skipped some areas or done some for less or more time instead of trying to consider the person I was with.
I don’t see spas as social places or events.

latetothefisting · 10/02/2026 19:27

everyone's different. Personally I don't really like spas and hate massages so yeah the only reason I would go to one would be to catch up with a friend as a day out. Otherwise it would feel like a waste of money to just go myself if it wasn't something I'd enjoy.

I wouldn't choose to eat out by myself - I obviously have done when needed, but for me the main point of a meal is the social aspect so if I was travelling alone I'd prefer to order takeaway/sandwich/room service and slob out in my hotel room rather than going out for a meal alone. Whereas if you're a 'foodie' you'd get enjoyment from the actual meal/dressing up/going to a restaurant/people watching etc. so it would be worth it.

OTOH I'm happy going to the cinema, theatre, walk, on holiday, even a theme park etc. on my own if nobody else wants to join me- and some things (shopping, gym, museums) I actively prefer it.

CheddarCheeseAndCrispSandwich · 10/02/2026 19:27

I much prefer going alone. I don’t want ‘fun’ at a spa! I want to switch off and relax…can’t do that with someone wittering away on the next lounger!

If I wanted a fun day out with friends, I’d go to Alton Towers!

NoSoupForU · 10/02/2026 19:29

No it isn't weird! I like a spa day. I don't like my spa day being ruined by people talking non-stop! Going alone sounds perfect 👌

CinnamonBuns67 · 10/02/2026 19:34

Best spa days I've had have been on my own. Definitely go on one.

Scampilicous · 10/02/2026 19:34

I did this for my birthday last year - swam in the pool - went in the sauna - chilled on a lounger - had a lovely back neck and shoulder massage and then some lunch - had a great day - definitely do it 🥰

Greenwriter76 · 10/02/2026 19:40

I prefer spa days alone for all the reasons you say OP. I have one coming up actually - can’t wait.

Tortephant · 10/02/2026 19:45

Not at all. That's what I do. Would never go with anyone else.

knor · 10/02/2026 19:49

I think it sounds perfect!
I probably wouldn’t feel 1000% confident to go for dinner in a dining room on my own at a spa hotel but everything else woudl be heavenly. A good book, suiting yourself

heaveho · 10/02/2026 19:50

It’s the only way

Hedgehogbrown · 10/02/2026 19:52

Nope. Not weird. There are so many women on here who can't do things on their own. It's sad that they can't.
