Attended one yesterday as a bridesmaid. The brides cousin was also a bridesmaid, spent the whole morning clearly aggrieved that the day wasn't about her... smoked in the getting ready suite and had to be told to put it out, then lit up again and claimed she had forgotten when the bride told her and made a snarky comment..then presented her silver converse she had customised to wear with her dress as she "doesn't really do heels"... the bride ignored her and sweetly said "at this point I don't think I can stop you" as she knows what she's like then what do you know, she wears the heels! There were loads of instances like this all day and she is 28 but seemed to want to just be am inconvenience all day which I assume was jealousy...even little things like being late for photos and pretending not to hear when called over, pushing the food round her plate, really ungracious behaviour. The wedding was fantastic! She could have really enjoyed it much more. Not really an aibu but whats the worst behaviour youve seen like this?

At an abroad wedding at a private villa, I saw the best man give a drunken speech and in the speech say how much of a good shag the bride was as hr used to date her, then the son of the bride who was the best friend of the best man, ran and punched the best man and they both ended up fighting in the pool.
Then the party started and it was a free bar and everyone got completely drunk.

purpletrees16 · 08/02/2026 21:56

MOG Turned up drunk to a religious (and therefore publicly announced and open to all) service where she hadn’t been invited to hurl abuse at her son. She had to be escorted out and some family had to miss some of the wedding to get in her in a taxi. (She had arrived by bus.)

Aislyn · 08/02/2026 21:57

The best man's speech which fairly explicitly talked about how the bride loved sex with the groom. I was embarrassed on her behalf.

The mother of the groom who turned up wearing plain black, and had a face all day like she was at a funeral and refused to talk to multiple guests she didn't like.

Friend of the groom whipped his penis out, put it in a bread roll, buttered it and went round the tables offering it to old ladies.

And wtaf?!

PurpleLovecats · 08/02/2026 21:58

My (now deceased) BIL started a fight with another BIL due to the colour of his skin.

Did that bridesmaid have bad social anxiety, OP? The behaviour does make me wonder. Weddings, particularly being part of the main bridal party, are the worst for bringing that out.

Doesn't make it acceptable though, no matter how bad the social anxiety. Maybe a reason why it happened, but certainly not an excuse imo.

Bufftailed · 08/02/2026 21:59

Father of the bride made a joke about bride having fat bum in his speech. Wtf

BlackCatDiscoClub · 08/02/2026 21:59

14 years old, was invited to a wedding as a friend of one of the bridesmaids as there wouldnt be many kids there. The adults plied us with wine! I dont remember much of the night, but do remember swallowing down vomit and trying desperately not to throw up in the car on the drive home in case it made the parents angry, even though they had been some of the people getting us drunk. Bizarre to think of it now!

Eviangeica · 08/02/2026 21:59

Mine isn’t too bad compared to some on here but one table drank the finger bowls at my wedding.

Foulplayed · 08/02/2026 22:00

A relative of the bride was an amateur photographer and was very put out that they didn't ask him to be photographer for the event. He turned up with a massive professional camera anyway and spent the day in a sort of weird competition with the actual photographer, like something from a sitcom.

RosesAndHellebores · 08/02/2026 22:02

Nothing like any of these.
Beautiful wedding. The groom, in his speech made too many jokes at the bride's expense. I was the only one who noticed. Ten years on hee isn't a prince but she keeps a brave face on it.

Naughty page boy weed in one of rhe pew posies. But he was 4.

My now ex, drunkenly and emotionally telling the bride and groom (his friends) at the reception, that he wished the bride had married her old boyfriend and his best friend instead. Old boyfriend had been dead a few years by this time of a drug overdose.

I was mortified. And no, I didn’t try to stop him saying it because I had no fucking clue he was going to say such a thing! I just thought he was going to say the usual stuff you say at the end of the night.

Well no indeed! Wouldn't have been your responsibility even if you had of guessed. Can't imagine why you're no longer with him 😬 x

Worst I've seen at a wedding was back in the 70s and the Father of the Bride who had had far too much to drink ended up physically fighting with someone.

I was Shock I tell you. I was young and innocent and didn't know things like that happened anywhere, let alone at weddings.

My first wedding, my DHs dad had a fight and lost massively to c5 lads that were his sobs friends. My FIL turned out to be an alcoholic, he physically abused his son, daughters and wife. Complete AH. Sadly my DH was so badly damaged by his own father our relationship had no chance of survival cos my DH wanted to abuse me. Got shut after 6m.
I hope the brides father wasn't an AH in yoyr story....

InAnyOtherLife · 08/02/2026 22:04

The girlfriend of a guest who threw a tantrum because her boyfriend went for a cigarette with people she didn't know.
Then she burst into tears because the DJ played a song that was played at her Aunt's funeral several years earlier, asking 'how could the bride and groom do this to me'. Locked herself in a bathrom stall threatening to end it all.

Absolute nightmare of a guest.

AllJoyAndNoFun · 08/02/2026 22:05

Also someone climbed a massive tree in the garden at the reception and got stuck and they had to get the police and fire brigade to get him down.

Goatsarebest · 08/02/2026 22:08

My 40 plus year old brother brought his 17 year old girlfriend to our wedding and spent most of the time with his tongue down her throat. Eventually they disappeared somewhere, which was a relief.

ToadRage · 08/02/2026 22:09

At my wedding my Mum said that she doesn't like my husband despite that fact that he quite clearly loves me to my MiL! She complained about everything regardless of the fact that I was unwell and had already thrown up twice before we even got to the meal.

TonicGinIceFruit · 08/02/2026 22:10

Friends wedding, her younger sister (21) was a bridesmaid. Pre wedding she said she’d refuse to eat the wedding breakfast menu they’d picked so they had to arrange for her to have a kids meal 😂she sat on the top table eating chicken strips and fries with her hands whilst swigging a Smirnoff Ice and yelled at one of the servers “got any ketchup???!!!”
During the father of the bride speech the bride got tearful and she yelled “oh for fucks sake (brides name) man up!!!”
When the bride tossed the bouquet she was so determined to catch it she jumped in front of the rest of us girls and grabbed it causing the bouquet to scatter everywhere, the bride had to use a bridesmaids bouquet for photos for the rest of the day 🙈
First dance - the videographer is up close to the bride and groom filming them literally as the song started and she immediately jumped in front of the camera waving.
I certainly wouldn’t be impressed if she was my sister…

HelloMyNameIsElderSmurf · 08/02/2026 22:11

I used to waitress at a wedding venue. In the days when you could smoke indoors, the bride’s father, who was paying for the whole thing, had requested no smoking until after the toasts. My table was full of oiks who were pals of the groom, just kept lighting up anyway despite me telling them to stop. I had to move the coffee cups off the table and the butter pats because they were putting their cigs out on them. Utterly classless. Then the ringleader felt my arse, so I burnt the side of his ear with a hot tray of food. Not even sorry.

God I saw all sorts there. Lots of vom. Couple of fights. Drunken shags in service corridors.

You win. Is that where you got the idea for your username from??!!?

Ophy83 · 08/02/2026 22:15

My wedding. One of dh's friends and his wife got stuck in traffic. Arrived at reception very late. She shouted at me as if the traffic was somehow my problem/fault, then shortly thereafter stomped off to their hotel taking their kids with her because apparently the kids didn't like the food at the wedding (lovely Italian restaurant, kids had pizza and pasta options). He then disappeared off to the loos with a single female friend of DH's who was seated at their table, and they must have had a shag because he then messaged DH a few weeks later to ask whether he thought the friend might have given him an STD as his wife was feeling itchy. She'd put it down to thrush from a hot tub, but he was getting worried. DH was dumbfounded. We haven't seen them since.

Fbfbfvfvv · 08/02/2026 22:17

The best man’s speech being mainly about the grooms past relationships and conquests in graphic detail and talking about the grooms very drunken nights out. All of it was filth with several elderly relatives looking on in horror!

Laughing my head off - did anyone take a bite?

Sweetiedarling7 · 08/02/2026 22:18

Not directly witnessed but was told about this:
Step mother of the bride got completely pissed at the reception to the point of vomiting on the brides shoes and at the breakfast the next morning was constantly belching.
She then went on at length about it being her “time of the month” and blamed that for her behaviour instead of the vat of wine she had consumed.

Crwysmam · 08/02/2026 22:19

My poor nieces cousins (maternal side) were a nightmare. DNs wedding was a typical middle class vibe wedding. Very relaxed and modern. Her cousins added extra bridesmaids and flower girls by dressing the children not officially in the bridal party in the same dresses as the official ones. Even the son was dressed up as a page boy. My DS expressed his relief that his cousin hadn't asked him to get dressed up.

The family were gobby and unpleasant to a lot of the guest, not directly but making snide remarks rather too loudly. The cousins had chosen outfits in the same colours the MOB and MOG had chosen so ruined the photos. They manage to insert themselves into most of them.

Probably the funniest thing was that the all sat together throughout the evening do in the foyer of the venue where there was a Photo Booth. When the photos came back nearly every photo was of one or more of them. No one else got a look in.

Twelve months later one of them posted on FB congratulating the B&G on their first anniversary with multiple photos of the day. There was not one of the bride & groom or of any of the other guests.

I suppose we should have expected them to try and take over. They spent 12 mnths before the wedding posting suggestions for table centres, bridesmaid dresses and colour schemes. My DN graciously thanked them but then ignored. I did feel sorry for her when they added an extra five bridesmaids on the day.

DN was my bridesmaid many moons ago and they actually were married on the day before our anniversary. I would have loved to have had a photo taken with her, to go with the one I have of us on my wedding day but we couldn’t get a look in. Every time we tried to get near they fended us off.
