Attended one yesterday as a bridesmaid. The brides cousin was also a bridesmaid, spent the whole morning clearly aggrieved that the day wasn't about her... smoked in the getting ready suite and had to be told to put it out, then lit up again and claimed she had forgotten when the bride told her and made a snarky comment..then presented her silver converse she had customised to wear with her dress as she "doesn't really do heels"... the bride ignored her and sweetly said "at this point I don't think I can stop you" as she knows what she's like then what do you know, she wears the heels! There were loads of instances like this all day and she is 28 but seemed to want to just be am inconvenience all day which I assume was jealousy...even little things like being late for photos and pretending not to hear when called over, pushing the food round her plate, really ungracious behaviour. The wedding was fantastic! She could have really enjoyed it much more. Not really an aibu but whats the worst behaviour youve seen like this?

Not sure why you had to mention she was “hugely fat”

Because it was relevant to the amount of people it took to get her into the car 😂

Can confirm that. 100 D-marks (pre-euro days) and 37 years down the line...

Still, forewarned is forearmed, eh?

(Wedding presents included a book with the title (translated) "Don't Listen to the Man In Your Ear" and a video tape of Blackadder series 4, taped off the telly.)

At least our BBQ and picnic hamper gifts were useful. Although we eventually burnt a hole in the bottom of the BBQ and the picnic hamper got left somewhere.

I was MoH for a good friend some years ago who has the mother from hell.

I didn’t really get why her mum didn’t come with us to choose the dress until the day. The bride came down the stairs in her dress and veil she looked utterly beautiful, really breathtaking. Her mum sniffed and said “well, she looks ok. Better than she deserves given that she hasn’t lost any weight for the day.” And went on to point out that the Brides (tiny) childhood facial scar would be prominent in the photos. And that was just the start. By the time we got to the reception I couldn’t stand it any longer, the relentless needling and barbed comments were just awful but just quiet enough and just far enough away from me that I couldn’t do anything. Her comments were just so cruel. So I buttonholed two of our bolshiest mates with instructions to man-mark the MoB and keep her the fuck away from the Bride. And it worked a treat. MoB tells everyone how all the Bride’s friends treated her like royalty, the Bride was completely caught up in her day and didn’t realise and the Groom spotted it all and gave us bottles of champagne to say thank you. They are now a very happy couple and live about 200 miles from her mother.

You win at best MoH for that - what a true friend!!!

I was able to throw the book at DH during an argument and we made up by watching the Blackadder 4 tape (which we still have), so I still win the usefulness stakes! 😂

Imagine the pressure to not immediately drape it in a muddy puddle or spill red wine on it though! 😬
