Attended one yesterday as a bridesmaid. The brides cousin was also a bridesmaid, spent the whole morning clearly aggrieved that the day wasn't about her... smoked in the getting ready suite and had to be told to put it out, then lit up again and claimed she had forgotten when the bride told her and made a snarky comment..then presented her silver converse she had customised to wear with her dress as she "doesn't really do heels"... the bride ignored her and sweetly said "at this point I don't think I can stop you" as she knows what she's like then what do you know, she wears the heels! There were loads of instances like this all day and she is 28 but seemed to want to just be am inconvenience all day which I assume was jealousy...even little things like being late for photos and pretending not to hear when called over, pushing the food round her plate, really ungracious behaviour. The wedding was fantastic! She could have really enjoyed it much more. Not really an aibu but whats the worst behaviour youve seen like this?

Also someone climbed a massive tree in the garden at the reception and got stuck and they had to get the police and fire brigade to get him down.

OMG, I also went to a wedding where a bloke did that!

Friend of the groom whipped his penis out, put it in a bread roll, buttered it and went round the tables offering it to old ladies.

Shame I wasn’t invited 🤣

Mamarama2u2 · 08/02/2026 23:06

I once went to a wedding where the groom began his speech with “Let me introduce you to…my FIRST wife” if at all possible, it went downhill from there…

VisitingInkMonitor · 08/02/2026 23:07

Wedding in the middle of nowhere on New Year’s eve. All guests staying in accommodation about 7 miles away as directed by the groom who assured us they were laying on a bus to get us all back at the end of night. We all got on the bus to find the groom asking for £10 each to cover the cost.

Wedding at a very posh hotel. Drinks reception in the roof bar which also had a hot tub. An elderly guest (Russian Oligarch) at the hotel (not wedding guest) was what can only be described as cavorting loudly in the hot tub with a very voluptuous woman in her early 20s. Hotel would not tell them to leave the hot tub and put a screen around it which just encouraged them to have very loud sex. Made for good conversation.

Many funny posts on this thread, but nothing can top this one 😂

Brides dad told a horrific story in his speech about her being groomed by a paedophile.
proceeded to get drunk and threaten to kill her brother (his son) in the pub garden.
Lied about his profession on her marriage certificate.
no one was talking the day after.

FettleOfKish · 08/02/2026 23:11

Well some of these make my (ex)H’s uncle bringing his own sandwiches to the reception in tin foil seem very tame.

Otherwise it was probably me getting tipsy at my half-brothers wedding and filling the bride’s family & friends in on why I don’t speak to our mutual Dad. In fairness he had given a long speech full of anecdotes about ‘the things you do for your kids’ while I sat there agog as the child he’s never so much as sent a birthday card to 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'd have said 'thanks' and stuck my fork in it.

I’d have put Tabasco on it!

Oh god was it in SE London? My friend did this. Everyone had to help or contribute something, it was really weird and uncomfortable. The whole evening before was spent setting up and it was near Halloween so half of the stuff was leftover decorations. Some of the food was in Tupperware pots where guests had provided it 😭

Not the same wedding, but sounds like the same amount of faff! Honestly wished she had had a smaller wedding and just paid for what she could afford! She had 250+ people there.

I went to a wedding where the groom left the reception cos he said it "wasn't really his vibe" and went to a pub down the road. Bride was left super embarrassed - the DJ didn't know and so at one point invited the newly weds onto the dancefloor again, but the groom wasn't there! So a few of the brides friends just sort of bundled round her. So awkward. Bride finished the night in tears on the phone to new hubby asking when he'd be back.
Marriage lasted less than a year, and she is now married to a lovely new man! As far as I know, her dickhead ex is still single.
It was so awful though, none of us knew what to say to her - "yeh looks like your new husband of 2 hours is a complete bell end then" 😬

I had a work colleague this happened to! I wasn’t at the wedding but heard all about it later from those that were! Very similar story with a happy second marriage too!

Lifecircle · 08/02/2026 23:21

Many years ago now but my (now ex) husbands family were very against me marrying their precious son / grandson/brother.
During the wedding service they conversed loudly and then my ex mother in law sat in our wedding car and had to be almost physically removed by the best man.
In the middle of the speeches at the top table the mother in law and grandmother stood up and announced they were leaving to feed the dog!!!
My ex finally stood up to them when we had our first child and the childish behaviour continued. I refused let our child see them unless attitudes changed.
Turn the clock on a few years and I was treated like royalty!
My kids went on to adore the family and we lived happily ever after.

Family wedding - Church and beautiful elegant venue. Our lovely, sensible cousin (in his 40s) arrived with his unhinged, self-absorbed financé (30s) that we'd all quietly had doubts about. She turned up in a dress so short you could genuinely see her thong, she was paralytic within two hours, flirting with every single male she encountered, and loudly demanding people feel her 'new tits' by 5pm. She kept trying to do 'sexy dancing' during bride and groom first dance and had to pulled back several times and eventually started talking loudly about lovely cousin and his 'poor performances' in the bedroom.

To shut her up, another older family member told her to 'pull herself together, to stop embarrassing 'Tom' and stop embarrassing yourself'. We all hoped that would be the end of it but she started shouting "Well what have I got to be embarrassed about? Come on then? What?". Family member (now livid) said "well your knickers are showing for one" at which point she dragged them down her legs, chucked them into a small crowd of people and yelled "well you can't see them now, can you?"

Cousin called a taxi, put her in, told her she could keep the engagement ring but to never call him or attempt to speak to him again". And that was the end of her.

We still talk about her in whispered horror.

Was your cousin engaged to Katie Price?!
I don't have any funny stories, sad to say. There was one where the best man was pretty drunk and told a very inappropriate joke about the groom, his penis, and a fruit bowl. It wasn't all that funny or even super shocking, but it was crass and it shocked the older guests. I felt bad for them.
I think the buttered chipolata wins this thread.

In the lineup, the MoG told everyone she felt bereaved...yes, it was at my wedding!

She has form!🙄I could write a book...

My (difficult and narcissistic) mother has had medical emergencies that required an ambulance at all 3 of her children’s weddings.

At my wedding - very small, 20 guests and we hired a fancy home for every to stay in, with a pool so had a pool party - mum tripped over her dog’s lead and claimed to slip a disc. This was at the point the pool party was really beginning to get going. She lay on our bed in the bridal suite (despite having her own room) screaming her head off. The ambulance came out but just checked her and left. She said she couldn’t move from the bridal suite so me and DH had to pack our bags and move into her room.

At DB1’s wedding, she fainted in the toilet from exhaustion during the speeches. An ambulance came out but she was fine and didn’t need to go to hospital

At DB2’s wedding she experienced chest pains during the photographs. Again an ambulance was called out and she did go to hospital but came back after a couple of hours as she was fine.

These aren’t coincidences BTW she just cannot bear not being the centre of attention. Every time it was during a peak event.

DB2 is getting married again later this year and he hasn’t invited her.

Family wedding. It was a nightmare and I’m still traumatised 😳 long story short, my uncle threatened to ‘pulverise’ one of his nephews (my cousin). The nephew was pissed off because one of my mad aunts (uncles sister)passed a derogatory and hurtful remark to his wife. The nephew pulled her up on it and humiliated her for it. Aunt then slapped him around the face during the speeches. Same mad aunt was distraught that her daughter (my cousin) was not one of the bridesmaids as she was far prettier than the only bridesmaid (me). Oh the drama and family fallout….😖. These people are ‘pillars of the community’ 🙄

That sounds like a movie scene!

At my own wedding quite some time ago. My “family” (mostly SIL and one cousin) taking trays of MY buffet food to the pub across the road as they thought they’d have a better time there. Re-appearing some time later, dramatically pretending to be drunk and making an absolute show of themselves for attention. It was a small, low-key wedding anyway. I don’t know why they hated me so much but luckily I don’t have to have anything to do with them anymore.

Went to a wedding where the groom’s family were apparently part of some kind of local gang/mafia. They were all really tall and broad and completely terrifying. At the reception, a few of us were sitting in a booth (the only one left) and three of his family came over and one just said in a menacing voice, ‘this is reserved for us’. We weren’t arguing and scarpered.

The bride ended up in tears after an altercation with one of them and later there was a fight in the car park. I only knew this girl through work (wasn’t entirely sure why I’d been invited) but yeah, the marriage didn’t last.

I used to waitress at at a wedding venue, and have many hair-curling memories. One of my favourites was walking into a storeroom during the reception to find the groom and one of my colleagues happily shagging.

I have just spat my cuppa tea out everywhere 😆 the poor dog got a fright 😆

FMLGFastMovingLuxuryGoods · 08/02/2026 23:43

Oh and I once went to a wedding as a plus one, the bride was a 25yo woman marrying a 58yo man He happened to be very rich. And “his first wife was awful” apparently 🙄
An owl delivered their rings onto a little pillow 🤣
The bride got REALLY drunk, got on the mic during the speeches and said “I know you what you’re all thinking, that I’m with him for the money but it’s not true, he’s just great in bed”.
She then vomited down her dress as her equally drunk husband stuck his head under the dress and into her crotch! She actually had to be sent home and when the evening guests arrived there was no bride to greet them.
They were divorced within 2 years.

Also that night one of the bridesmaids slept with another bridesmaid’s boyfriend! But she forgave them both and married him. It was the weirdest experience I’ve ever known.

FortyFacedFuckers · 08/02/2026 23:46

at the start of the reception so not even at the end of tue night! Friend of the bride hopped right up onto a table and done a strip tease, completely naked!
