Attended one yesterday as a bridesmaid. The brides cousin was also a bridesmaid, spent the whole morning clearly aggrieved that the day wasn't about her... smoked in the getting ready suite and had to be told to put it out, then lit up again and claimed she had forgotten when the bride told her and made a snarky comment..then presented her silver converse she had customised to wear with her dress as she "doesn't really do heels"... the bride ignored her and sweetly said "at this point I don't think I can stop you" as she knows what she's like then what do you know, she wears the heels! There were loads of instances like this all day and she is 28 but seemed to want to just be am inconvenience all day which I assume was jealousy...even little things like being late for photos and pretending not to hear when called over, pushing the food round her plate, really ungracious behaviour. The wedding was fantastic! She could have really enjoyed it much more. Not really an aibu but whats the worst behaviour youve seen like this?

A very violent and bloody fight between 2 wedding guests that ended up in the wedding reception coming to an abrupt end.

Gingercar · 08/02/2026 21:23

The bride’s father, who was in his 60s and in a wheelchair, had a physical fight with another guest. The family were millionaires and always looked down on everyone else, so it was a surprise!

Vinvertebrate · 08/02/2026 21:24

A female friend of the groom’s turned up in a full meringue. She was married and her husband was there finding it v amusing. Absolutely ruined all the photos she was in - the bride was very gracious, but fuck me, they must have hated her to do that.

NeededANameChangeAnyway · 08/02/2026 21:24

We overheard the mother of the groom telling her son he was making a mistake and it wasn't too late to back out, father of the bride speech jokes about how he had tried to give her away to the Gypsy's but they wouldn't take her and the best man said the groom used to spy on his sister in the shower.

My eyes were out on stalks for the whole day

JoyOfSpecs · 08/02/2026 21:25

I wasn't there because I hadn't been born, but my aunt's first husband was caught having sex with someone else outside the village hall at their wedding reception.

TheFormidableMrsC · 08/02/2026 21:26

I was at a wedding where we were all just seated for the meal. The guy sitting opposite me seemed fine and was nice and chatty and then he just stood up and walked out. Didn’t say a word. His food came and he never returned. Found out later that he was absolutely slaughtered and realised he wasn’t going to make it through the meal so went back to his hotel and passed out. He hid it well!

MummyJ36 · 08/02/2026 21:27

At my wedding I was alerted to the fact that one of my mums neighbours was going around at the end of the night necking any leftover wine on every single table (we had 12 tables!) - be it from a bottle or a half drunk glass.

My cousins wedding.

The MOGs dress "broke" on the day so she wore a pure white dress that was so short you could see her arse to the church for the wedding then changed into a equally short black dress.

She was shitfaced by 3pm and was doing slut drops the random blokes by 6pm... then she got caught by hotel staff doing coke and giving some fella a blowie in the toilets after dinner.

5yrs on She actually seems to be an okay MIL according to my cousin and the groom is THE nicest man you'd ever meet. 🤷🏻‍♀️
My husband who wasy boyfriend at the time was like 🤯 the whole day... and I had to keep explaining they werent my family.

MOG heckled her son during his speech and was taken outside for fresh air by a bridesmaid. She fell on the grass then pissed herself. Someone managed to get her back to her hotel but she projectile vomited so much in reception that an ambulance was called.

AllJoyAndNoFun · 08/02/2026 21:29

Context: most guest were staying at the hotel where the reception was:

Broke into another guest's room (unclear how) and took a dump in their bathroom and then refused to leave and had to be dragged out by security.

whatisgoingonandwhy · 08/02/2026 21:29

Family wedding and bride and sister in law had some bad blood between them. Bride was sat chatting to me when the SIL raced over and dragged the bride to the floor my her hair. Later the brides sister chinned the SIL. One hell of a wedding!

Victoria beckham?

No no.
It really happened.
It was in Ireland.

Friend of the groom whipped his penis out, put it in a bread roll, buttered it and went round the tables offering it to old ladies.

If I’d have been one of the old ladies, I’d have said “Oh, my dear boy, let me just find my glasses. Hmmm, sorry, no thank you. I prefer an actual sausage to a chipolata.” Then ignored him whilst sipping my sweet sherry.

Why can't I go to weddings like this ! GrinGrinGrin

Lillers · 08/02/2026 21:32

Similar bridesmaid story here - I was the MOH, and one of the other bridesmaids seemed pretty annoyed by it. Firstly she refused to have anything to do with planning the hen do, then only came to a part of it and left within half an hour because there was apparently nothing she could eat (no dietary restrictions and it was a very broad menu). Then on the day she wouldn’t get ready with the rest of us, met us at the venue and got upset that she wasn’t walking down the aisle with the bride (because the bride was walking down with her dad, not with any of us!).

During the ceremony she kept getting up to go and “sort out the bride’s dress” during key moments. The third time she did it, the bride’s mum said loudly and firmly, “SIT down.” MOB then moved to sit next to her to stop her from getting up again.

She then wore her coat for the whole of the reception despite it being a blazing hot day in summer.

IWantToHibernate · 08/02/2026 21:32

A woman getting so drunk and lifted her whole dress up around the dance floor to flash her thong.

Figcherry · 08/02/2026 21:33

A work colleague invited 2 of our other colleagues to her very classy wedding.
On the Monday I asked one colleague how was the wedding.
Apparently other work colleague drank too much before the reception and when the main course arrived she vomited over her plate putting all other guests at her table off their meal.
Bride was furious.

TheChosenTwo · 08/02/2026 21:33

Mother of the bride in a fist fight just after the first dance. Mortifying.

I'm sorry, what?!??!?!

Wow! This might win the strangest thing on the thread.

Happytaytos · 08/02/2026 21:33

The best worst one was a full punch up in the car park between warring cousins.

Second best was the bride finding out her husband had been shagging a bridesmaid. Carnage.

youalright · 08/02/2026 21:34

Two come to mind one was a physical fight between a group of guests. The other was the best man's ex turned up with there children as she was mad she wasn't invited and he was with someone else she started yelling about he will never see his kids again all in front of the kids and crying and the kids where crying it was just a very loud dramatic scene.

Happytaytos · 08/02/2026 21:35

I forgot the one where the grooms parents left because of the best man's speech (it was close to the wire but not that bad).

Or the lesbian one where an uncle did a speech and said "you both look so good, I'd shag you both". Awkward.

CatamaranViper · 08/02/2026 21:35

Father of bride insisted that the woman he cheated with and left his wife for be seated again the top table next to him and his ex (the brides mother) be put on the family table.
He actually went in to swap the place settings when I caught him (I was working) and he threatened me when I told him to stop.
I had to step out and speak to the best man and MOH about the situation, bride found out and went mental. Refused to attend her own wedding breakfast. Her and the groom sat in another room drinking heavily while the immediate family all argued.
Mother of bride was incredibly dignified which was pissing him off more. He eventually stormed off with his new woman, demanding I book him a taxi which he expected the hotel to pay for as a "good will gesture". When I refused that, he tried to get me to stick it on the bill for the actual wedding.
After he left, bride and groom came out, clearly pissed but determined to have fun and we finally started the breakfast. Skipped the speeches though.

I'd have said 'thanks' and stuck my fork in it.

Did that bridesmaid have bad social anxiety, OP? The behaviour does make me wonder. Weddings, particularly being part of the main bridal party, are the worst for bringing that out.

i agree - it is not for everyone
