Attended one yesterday as a bridesmaid. The brides cousin was also a bridesmaid, spent the whole morning clearly aggrieved that the day wasn't about her... smoked in the getting ready suite and had to be told to put it out, then lit up again and claimed she had forgotten when the bride told her and made a snarky comment..then presented her silver converse she had customised to wear with her dress as she "doesn't really do heels"... the bride ignored her and sweetly said "at this point I don't think I can stop you" as she knows what she's like then what do you know, she wears the heels! There were loads of instances like this all day and she is 28 but seemed to want to just be am inconvenience all day which I assume was jealousy...even little things like being late for photos and pretending not to hear when called over, pushing the food round her plate, really ungracious behaviour. The wedding was fantastic! She could have really enjoyed it much more. Not really an aibu but whats the worst behaviour youve seen like this?

I'd have said 'thanks' and stuck my fork in it.

😂

One of the guests got aggressively drunk and punched his wife in the face. No one seemed particularly concerned.

at my wedding, DH’s uncle decided he didn’t like my carefully arranged seating plan and swapped all the cards around, so he got to sit with who he wanted and my elderly relatives were left stranded.

At my sister in laws wedding my mother and father in law argued with each other during the ceremony. The ceremony was on a beach in Ireland and the argument was over who should have picked up the umbrella.

Went to our friends' wedding which went remarkably well. During the evening celebrations several of us from the friendship circle were chatting about it. One friend noted that this was the first wedding out of about half a dozen or so recent ones where there hadn't been a family fight. Then the men were called outside to rescue the groom from a fight with a neighbour. The groom, normally a very quiet and non-confrontational type was roaring, swearing and waving a half-empty whisky bottle about. There's just something about weddings that brings the worst out of some people 🙄

Bridesmaid at my aunt and uncle’s wedding- I drank repeatedly from the bridesmaid glass by mistake all through dinner, sang a song about a bird spinning round and round my plate at full pelt, fell off my chair and had to be put to bed.

1973, I was 3 and had been necking blue nun

ghostyslovesheets · 08/02/2026 21:40

Brides glass! I was sat next to her

I forgot the one where the grooms parents left because of the best man's speech (it was close to the wire but not that bad).

Or the lesbian one where an uncle did a speech and said "you both look so good, I'd shag you both". Awkward.

An uncle said that about his own niece?!

Is your DH's uncle my FIL?

He has done this at two weddings I've attended with him. Absolutely mortifying (but not quite as bad as the time they tried to delay the bride walking down the aisle because they were running late).

Figcherry · 08/02/2026 21:41

Ds went to a wedding where the bride's parents had a massive argument
( never found out why) which became physical and the bride’s dad ended up in a police cell. They were supposed to be flying home next morning.

PeopleLikeColdplayYouCantTrustPeopleJez · 08/02/2026 21:42

My now ex, drunkenly and emotionally telling the bride and groom (his friends) at the reception, that he wished the bride had married her old boyfriend and his best friend instead. Old boyfriend had been dead a few years by this time of a drug overdose.

I was mortified. And no, I didn’t try to stop him saying it because I had no fucking clue he was going to say such a thing! I just thought he was going to say the usual stuff you say at the end of the night.

youalright · 08/02/2026 21:42

I can't believe how many grooms where shagging other people at there own wedding. I get a lot of people like to pretend there in great relationships while cheating on each other but at your wedding is a whole other level.

At my wedding my Uncle stole a bottle of port and a bottle of Champange and was hiding it in his car "because he was driving and missing out" - my brother frog marched him back in with it 😂😂

Yep, so so awkward.

Idontthinkicandothisanymore · 08/02/2026 21:44

My own wedding. Friend of XH took exception to one of my mates and my family members BF. Started a fight outside the venue punching the BF through the window of the minibus that had my entire family including my nan in.

police were called and he was prosecuted. Mortifying.

Friend of the groom whipped his penis out, put it in a bread roll, buttered it and went round the tables offering it to old ladies.

😳😳

Well i don't think anything is going to beat that 🤣🤣

No bar - just bottles of spirits in giant troughs of ice. The best woman (grooms best gal pal) got so drunk before her speech that she grabbed the mic from father of the bride, in the middle of his speech and it seemed like she was about to break into her own speech. However, after a bit of free styling it became very clear she was in love with the groom and a key line from the ad-hoc speech that I remember was her slurring ‘it was fucked from the start sunshine’ down the mic as she eyeballed the groom.

JohnWickAteMyHamster · 08/02/2026 21:47

I went to a wedding where the groom left the reception cos he said it "wasn't really his vibe" and went to a pub down the road. Bride was left super embarrassed - the DJ didn't know and so at one point invited the newly weds onto the dancefloor again, but the groom wasn't there! So a few of the brides friends just sort of bundled round her. So awkward. Bride finished the night in tears on the phone to new hubby asking when he'd be back.
Marriage lasted less than a year, and she is now married to a lovely new man! As far as I know, her dickhead ex is still single.
It was so awful though, none of us knew what to say to her - "yeh looks like your new husband of 2 hours is a complete bell end then" 😬

Years ago I went to a wedding evening do and the father of the bride let the fire alarm off deliberately. He was a very odd man!

My best mate from school was engaged to be married to a right wanker (not relevant but he was)

As she was her parents pfb, they paid for a massive white wedding with every trimming you can think of-it was beautiful and classy

She invited all her old school friends which included two really nasty women that where the queen bees/nasty bullies at school (and they didnt grow out of that behaviour)

They had the whole church service where these two kept loudly sniggering all through the vows and then everyone went on to the hotel for the reception

Halfway through the speeches, they snuck off and set the fire alarms off and where heard giggling and snearing about how shit the day was

They then got pissed, one threatened the groom, the other tried to give him a blow job under the table before puking everywhere and passing out

The b&g divorced not long after having their first baby as he'd been shagging god knows how many women (one of them was the one that puked/passed out after offering him a bj) through her pregnancy and gave her 2 stds

Another one I went to

The bride was 6 1/2 stone/5'1 and the groom at least 16 stone and 6'

The bride refused to speak to any of the guests and just hung out with her family

I was standing on the balcony and looked down

She came racing up the garden, punched the groom in the face and ran back to her family

We had to call an ambulance out for him (he was fine, just a bit dazed) and they are still together 10 years on!

PeopleLikeColdplayYouCantTrustPeopleJez · 08/02/2026 21:50

My then 3 year old daughter smacked her then 4 year old cousin round the head with her flower girl basket because he kept trying to take the petals out. While they were walking down the aisle. They were meant to be holding hands nicely, I did warn my cousin. It felt like a very long walk down that aisle after that and they were both tearful because they’d then started pinching each other instead. So relieved I eloped!

The best worst one was a full punch up in the car park between warring cousins.

Second best was the bride finding out her husband had been shagging a bridesmaid. Carnage.

You’ve attended my families weddings….accept the punch up was between siblings.

Did that bridesmaid have bad social anxiety, OP? The behaviour does make me wonder. Weddings, particularly being part of the main bridal party, are the worst for bringing that out.

Why would “anxiety” turn you into such an attention seeking twat? Is that so she could
cover herself when pulled up for being a fanny? “I’m ANXIOUS!! I can do what I want and people have to accept it!!”

I’d say she has an attitude problem. ‘Social anxiety’ /= a free -sa for shitty behaviour…
