Unwanted gifts

This, plus stuff they’ve bought on vinted new that then doesn’t fit/they don’t want.

Mithral · 07/02/2026 15:01

Sometimes stolen sometimes bought in bulk cheaply and resold at a profit. Sometimes just didn't get round to returning.

CustardySergeant · 07/02/2026 15:01

Maybe it's stuff they've shoplifted.

WittyJadeStork · 07/02/2026 15:02

I’m going through the house and anything unwanted and not being used it going on Vinted. There’s quite a bit of new stuff as I haven’t got rid before as it’s new and I might use it. I suspect may others are doing the same

Namingbaba · 07/02/2026 15:03

In the past I bought clothing on sale etc that still had tags. Never wore it and years later sold it with tags still on.

MagicStarrz · 07/02/2026 15:03

Unwanted gifts
Things I thought I'd wear and then sat in my wardrobe for years / months with the tags on

I'm sure for some people it's stolen items as they have multiple new items from the same brand / shop

That’s my thinking too. Was looking for a specific fur coat before Xmas. Saw it on Vinted BNWT. Seller saying too late to return, but I know M&S will still let you return after 30 days, but give you a credit voucher.

My thought was that it was stolen goods, as it was still full price in shop, so seller could have got refund of full amount rather than £35 for a £120 item.

I didn’t buy it….

Loads of resellers - they buy stuff on sale or from outlets then try and turn a profit

This is the best answer - it's exactly what seems to be happening, and it is a bit depressing that we have a digital ecosystem now in the world which rewards this kind of 'business'. It's why the January sales are so hideous in general now, because all these 'entrepreneurs' are keen to try and flip clothing 😂

TartanMammy · 07/02/2026 15:17

Some stuff I stolen or fakes, you can tell as these sellers usually have lots and lots of similar items.

I have odd bits brand new with tags that are unwanted gifts, or things I forgot to return or put in my children's wardrobe and they never got round to wearing, or if I bought stuff for holiday and then didn't use it.

Iloveeverycat · 07/02/2026 15:27

Buying things to sell for a profit

bugalugs45 · 07/02/2026 15:39

My sister is a bugger for buying loads of clothes and ‘ forgetting ‘ to return them . I sell lots on her behalf,
none of it is stolen !

IDontHateRainbows · 07/02/2026 15:40

To make money.

This is exactly me

YankSplaining · 07/02/2026 15:42

Not on Vinted, but once I bought a summer dress on clearance in October and ended up selling it because I got pregnant that December.

GreenIsTheColourOfMyHoliday · 07/02/2026 15:42

Stolen items
Resellers buying in bulk to sell on
People who've put on/lost weight
Stuff brought that can't be returned - too late, too much hassle, Amazon refunded without return but they don't want it anyway etc
Changed hobby or unable to do hobby any more
Unwanted gifts or prizes
House clearance where people died before using it

RobertaFirmino · 07/02/2026 15:44

I do not remove the tags from anything until I am about to use/wear it. I also sell BNWT items that have been donated to the chazza where I work. We get a couple of extra quid on each item that way.

Therewerelions · 07/02/2026 15:47

I have sold lots of BNWT clothing on vinted and ebay. I buy things to try but if I don't like them on or they don't fit, rarely return but sell instead.
I'm sure there are stolen goods on both sites but there are also lots of people like me.
We are not all thieves as some people insist.

Crojo · 07/02/2026 15:48

I’ve sold a few items that were new with tags, all unwanted gifts or clothing the DC have outgrown or decided they don’t like after it’s been sat in a wardrobe for ages.
Ive seen lots of people selling Temu items like handbags trying to make a profit.

Meadowfinch · 07/02/2026 15:49

Stolen
Unwanted gifts
or
Can't be bothered to return them

BillieWiper · 07/02/2026 15:52

Probably they buy it from outlet, Sports direct, TK max, in a sale etc thinking they can make a few quid profit if it's a brand that does carry more expensive products. Or they try and sell it at the 'pre sale' price.

greencheetah · 07/02/2026 15:53

I sell BNWT on Vinted.

It is stuff I have bought and then never got round to wearing and now it doesn’t fit me (lost a lot of weight recently).

Some people might be reselling or be thieves. I think most are genuine though.

LaurieFairyCake · 07/02/2026 15:56

I’ve loads of new things with tags. In particular a Chloe dress which I paid about £300 for and when I lost weight skipped past that size.

notacooldad · 07/02/2026 16:00

Indy case
Things that my mum thinks I want but I don't and she has given it to me because she doesn't want clutter ( she must think I do!)

Clothes that nearly fit, but dont quite fit......and then never will.

Things that I think will be good for a hobby and fill my time up but then cant be arsed with it!
Things that I meant to return but forget to do it in time. ( common one for me!)
