There was a long thread on this a week or two ago with some people assuming that new items had been stolen. Most of the things I sell on Vinted are new with tags and are usually clothing items that I’ve bought and never got round to wearing. I also sell things that I get beauty advent calendars or skin care/perfume edits that I know I won’t use. I buy a lot of clothes, bags, and shoes, and have regular clear outs. I’ve never bought anything to re-sell on Vinted and I’ve never made a profit from anything I’ve sold. When I’m going through my clothes, anything that has been worn more than a handful of times goes in the charity shop bag and the rest gets listed on Vinted or eBay.

I've had some incredible bargains from charities on Ebay - companies give them unsold stock. I've also sold a few new dresses I bought in bulk: it was a discontinued style and I could only find my size in a parcel of five at a redundant-stock warehouse. I got the bundle for twice what my dress cost retail, then sold the other four for the same total price I paid 😎

Like PPs, I'm selling off new stuff I never used, including missed returns. But have you seen those awful videos of bargain-hunters in the sales, just sweeping everything into bin liners and IKEA holdalls without looking at it? They have to be traders, who will sell it all on at more than the sale price.

Sellers regularly offering expensive items - thieves or counterfeiters.

We have a Joseph Joseph stacking bowl set that my SIL bought for us, years ago, and have a couple of other bits that weve been given as gifts. One of the bowls and the sieve broke, so I looked on vinted to see if any were on sale there. I was pretty surprised that almost everything Joseph was BNWT. They surely cant all be unwanted gifts and its pretty expensive (hence me looking on vinted rather than buying new) , would you not return it if you bought and then changed your mind?

I’ve loads of new things with tags. In particular a Chloe dress which I paid about £300 for and when I lost weight skipped past that size.

I was just going to say that, as a size 16, I'm really benefiting from all the WLI users who didn't realise they'd shortly be too thin for their wardrobe 😁

Cherrysoup · 07/02/2026 16:14

Bought a bundle of 3 things this week, didn't like 2 of them, one still had tags attached. Selling a tags attached dress which I got, but it's restrictive to walk in, so not for me.

Bought Polishey pens, tried one, thought they were rubbish, sold the rest, brand new.

Sidebeforeself · 07/02/2026 16:19

I went on there for the first time last week as everyone on here talks about it. I was quite appalled at lots of the photos on there to be honest.. not a single one enticed me to want anything.

i appreciate these are not professional photos, but if you are going to take a photo of a dress draped across your bed, at least make the bloody bed!

YES!!! And show the measurements & fabric/care label. I much prefer buying from ebay because sellers try a bit harder there, and the returns process is less punitive.

RedRiverShore6 · 07/02/2026 16:31

Some will be unwanted sale mistakes, some nicked, some will be stuff that people have had ages and not used. Some will be bought in sales like Next to sell on

RedRiverShore6 · 07/02/2026 16:33

I must admit I have never used Vinted, it looks more arduous than eBay and not that cheap

Katflapkit · 07/02/2026 16:40

If I buy anything new, I never take the tags/labels off until I actually wear it or use it. It's worth more if you want to sell it and it has the tags. I drum it into the children too.

I was also reading that people are having to make more use of space these days as young people can't afford to move out. It's hard to move to a bigger house. So generally, we can't afford to hang on to too much stuff.

CondeNastTraveller · 07/02/2026 17:06

Is vinted even working these days? Uninstalling and reinstalling the app is not working at all these past 24 hours!

Vivienne1000 · 07/02/2026 17:20

I often ordered clothes online, they were too tight, but I was convinced that one day I would fit into them. Guess what?!!!

JaceLancs · 07/02/2026 17:38

In my case:
Lost the receipt
Missed return date
Unwanted gift
Bought to diet into and then by the time I did found it either didn’t suit me, occasion bought for had passed or it was now wrong season

MidnightMeltdown · 07/02/2026 17:40

I often sell clothes that I haven’t worn. Usually because I’ve changed weight, or decided that the colour, or something else isn’t quite right.

Pickledpoppetpickle · 07/02/2026 17:41

Frequently I don’t return stuff that doesn’t for or look right - really need to try harder with it. Or stuff bought on Vinted which isn’t right on me. Am losing weight right now so not taking tags off anything until I am certain I will wear it more than a few times. All goes on Vinted at some point. My Vinted habit is largely self funding this way!

BiscoffCheesecakes · 07/02/2026 17:44

You're right though I'm not complaining. I got a beautiful brand new Principles dress for a wedding on there for £3! It may just be stuff that people want to get rid of

Yes working fine, I’ve been selling and buying last night and today.

YankSplaining · 07/02/2026 15:42

Not on Vinted, but once I bought a summer dress on clearance in October and ended up selling it because I got pregnant that December.

Couldn’t you have worn it afterwards?

Sartre · 07/02/2026 17:50

Either unwanted gifts or they missed the return.

NemesisInferior · 07/02/2026 18:02

Vast majority of brand new stuff will be stolen.

SlothSpiritAnimal · 07/02/2026 18:09

I used to buy A LOT of clothes! I’ve calmed down now, but I’ve also lost quite a bit of weight, so I have lots of clothes that are new with tags that don’t fit, so I’ve been selling them on Vinted. I don’t sell them for more than I paid, but it’s good to get some money back and also clear some wardrobe space. I’ve also bought some nwt stuff from there too, but don’t buy half as much as I used to!
I really like Vinted - I sold on eBay for years, but find it’s much slower to sell there now and find listing on Vinted much quicker.

Vast majority?

from the responses on here I’d say it’s mostly bad organisation

YankSplaining · 07/02/2026 18:40

Allseeingallknowing · 07/02/2026 17:49

Couldn’t you have worn it afterwards?

No. My ribs expanded permanently and I seem to be permanently up a cup size.

Fizbosshoes · 07/02/2026 18:43

I understand about clothes in terms of the fit, losing or gaining weight but how are loads of people buying expensive household items they suddenly realise they dont want or like, but then not taking them back? Im not especially organised but if id bought something for eg £30-50, I think id want the money back from the shop, rather than hope someone would pay nearly full price on vinted...

Theda13 · 07/02/2026 18:45

Reselling items, frequently from charity shops to make a profit.
