Not on Vinted, but once I bought a summer dress on clearance in October and ended up selling it because I got pregnant that December.
Couldn’t you have worn it afterwards?

I bought a dress in a style that used to suit me when I was heavily pregnant to wear once I was ready. The dam thing didnt suit me as my proportions had changed. My weight was the same as it had been previously but my shape was different.
I was seriously gutted!

This is like eBay when it first started.

I’ve literally just listed a load things new with tags on Vinted today.

Some of my daughter’s - bought ahead (in sales) and stashed and then either didnt fit her by the time it was seasonally appropriate, she decided she didn’t like it, or other people bought her stuff as gifts and we just ended up with more than we needed.

The ones of mine - bought, tried on, genuinely thought I liked them and would wear them and it turns out I just haven’t. One is a lovely top but I just have others I like better so it never gets reached for. Another is a top I felt sure I would figure out the right bra to wear underneath it but that never happened. A beautiful occasion dress I bought for a wedding but then right before the event I saw and fell in love with something else (which happened to be a complete bargain). Another outfit I never quite figured out how to style it/ be confident enough to wear it. These are things I bought 6 months to a year ago. And I’m no longer keeping things if they’re just not going to be worn. I’d rather try and get some cash back.

I had dozens of items BNWT. I don’t take tags off until I wear something and often I would buy ‘in case’. I did the same for my DD. Very wasteful and lots of items just not worn.

I put the whole lot on Vinted and it’s shifting slowly.

Vast majority of brand new stuff will be stolen.

any actual evidence for this? Or just 'I've decided in my head' nonsense?

It seems like 'so much' new stuff because new stuff sells better. People cba to go to the effort of cleaning, photographing, listing (and then packaging and posting) something that's been worn a few times that either won't get sold at all, or will make about a quid, if that. So older/used stuff doesn't get listed as often, therefore the amount of 'new' items seems disproportionate. Other than the resellers, most people will only have a few new items listed, for all of the perfectly legitimate reasons mentioned by pps - not because they're all stolen!

Oh and also people fib, the things have been worn/used once or twice, either with the tags kept on, or reattached.

Thought of this thread while putting on a pair of jeans I've worn twice - and have shrunk in the wash 😬

Will list on ebay, with measurements etc, and replace them at more than I get for them. Don't wash your Zara jeans at 40°, folks!
