Keir starmer is dead in the water

Bertiebiscuit · 04/02/2026 22:21

The UK cannot have a prime minister who gave a plum job to a man when all the time he knew that Mandelson was still close friends with an ex-con who was convicted for trafficking children for sexual abuse. Starmer is destroying the reputation of the UK, he is an embarrassment and shoukd resign, if not the Labour party should demand his resignation.

What were they? The glimmers? Was it bumping off OAPs with cold or … what exactly?

Just when I am getting the popcorn out and sitting down to enjoy the fall of the disastrous Starmer, people on this thread come along to remind me that he at least has or once had some faintish glimmers of decency, unlike, say, Nigel Farage

Odd comment.

Why do you find the toolmaker line funny? Is it because it’s hypocritical - because he’s saying his father was a toolmaker (ie working class) yet he himself is upper class and much more privileged?

@JennyWren5 I think some posters are referring to the derogatory use of the word tool as a put down when describing a person. Personally I don't think that has any relevance. I haven't heard this usage for some yrs. It may or may not still be used this way. Colloquial language can change quickly. I think it much more likely that laughter was simply caused by his repeated assertion of his father's trade. Btw, Starmer is not Upper Class. Born Working Class but probably now Middle Class. Although 'Sir', he has a Knighthood. He isn't a Baronet.

The tool maker gag though is really funny, come on.. Especially as he continues to refer to the tool maker dad and makes everyone snigger. He would almost be Carry On-like in his humour if he wasn't such a massive tool himself.

Perhaps funny if you're a teenager, or however old the original users are now.

Oh come now. No need to be po-faced, surely. Its good to have a bit of low-level humour in these turbulent times.

Perhaps thats what Keir Starmer lacks...

I follow the Labour Party on FB - purely for shits and giggles - and in response to a “the economy has grown 0.000000001%” post, someone commented “great, I’ll just defrost my Nan and tell her”. 😂

Between “the clowns are in charge now” Labour and bloody Trump I’m feeling pretty despondent, but the humour (almost) makes it worthwhile!

People still don't realise how vital it is for justice that crimimals - even terrorists - have a defence barrister.

Simply - If our justice system doesn't ensure that the worst criminals are entitled to a defence, it undermines the justice the rest of us receive.

This is true but does not apply to his pro bono (unpaid) work helping the prosecution ofBritish Soldiers

I think absolutely everyone knows that it is vital for justice that accused people have decent representation. People aren't idiots. But it does show an interesting bent in Keir Starmer that he was so keen on defending Islamist terrorists and so interested in working out how to pursue innocent British soldiers.

One wonders what the clerks of his chambers thought of him when assigning work. Oh here comes another Islamist terrorist. That'll be a job for Starmer!

I just pointed out that you have no reason to call Tories stupid, any more than to call Labour supporters stupid. That’s not policing anything. Neither did I name anyone.

FFS she didn’t say all Tory voters are stupid! Stop being disingenuous.

What on earth are you on about? Lawyers are obliged to accept whoever wants to engage their services.

You really are getting desperate. Now that Mandy-gate is blowing over, you want to paint Starmer as a terrorist, or sympathiser. Ridiculous.

I doubt the Mandelson affair is ‘over’ they’ve got thousands of documents to go through yet. And Starmer is impacted by it still.

No. In a barristers chambers the clerks can assign clients to whoever has the specialism. Lawyers (whatever you mean by that) aren't obliged to accept anyone that rocks up.

Because it’s Saturday night? People are probably watching the ice skating. The press will go for it when more comes out.

Legally having to release documents will keep them going.

In English law, the cab rank rule refers to the obligations of barristers to accept any work in their speciality, provided they are available and appropriately compensated; this means they cannot discriminate against particular clients even if they disagree with the client’s views or actions.

A KC won't scoop up a shoplifting case for example. It will be for the clerks to decide what is in the "specialism" of a particular barrister. And in Keir's case its Islamic terrorists.

Could you afford a KC? I doubt he did many legal aid cases....

In fact the Abu Qatada case was a civil action. The solicitor will chose which barrister he or she thinks has a specialism in fighting the deportation of islamists.

Here’s what Alex wrote and what I said:

Alex: Badenoch is aware of this, the work to rebuild the Tory party is only just beginning for her, she isn't a stupid person.
Unlike many of her supporters.

Me: I can’t see any basis for calling Tory supporters any stupider than the average Labour fan. There are some remarkably one-eyed, bovine Labourites.

So what the fuck is your point?
