Sharing bath water

Just that really.
For what it is worth we have a massive roll top bath which takes 15 minutes to fill
I usually offer out to rest of family when I am done.
is that okay or grim?

Weird I wanted a poll

I usually let my husband have my bath water. He usually declines if I’ve washed my hair but otherwise he will use it.

Tableforjoan · 04/02/2026 19:44

I’d say grim but I think baths full stop are grim. You just sit in your dirt sweat and dead cells.

HeddaGarbled · 04/02/2026 19:44

Do they ever take you up on it?

I don’t like it. We were expected to do it growing up so it’s one of those things I vowed not to do once I had decision-making power.

Swaytheboat · 04/02/2026 19:44

If they want to use it then fine. Not if you've been shaving particularly hairy legs though.

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 04/02/2026 19:44

in the 1970s as a water saving initiative, people were encouraged to ‘bath with a friend’. DH have done this ever since and have had no problems.

UltimateLuxury · 04/02/2026 19:45

Yes they do- but it’s something we have always done.

I wouldn't share with another adult or teen, but the kids share or I'd go in there's, but probably wouldn't put them in mine.

Hellohelga · 04/02/2026 19:45

Totally normal

sundayvibeswig22 · 04/02/2026 19:47

Normal within families. Personally I wouldn’t get in after my dh but he’d happily get in after me. I’d get in after my dd though as she does awesome baths!

User0311 · 04/02/2026 19:47

Totally normal within families imo

OriginalSkang · 04/02/2026 19:51

Really fucking grim

But you will get a load of people saying it's fine and all 17 of their family members share one bath for environmental reasons despite them going on three long haul flights a year

youalright · 04/02/2026 19:51

No its gross we shared bath water growing up. But I don't do it now with my family

Thelondonone · 04/02/2026 19:53

We do if we have been doing sport and are cold but we all have a quick rinse under the shower afterwards (and do even if a single bath).

suburburban · 04/02/2026 19:54

Yes I will go in bath after DH

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 04/02/2026 19:55

To me, that's absolutely foul, I had a instinctive recoil at the thought. If someone offered me their bathwater - DP / my parents / sibling I'd think they'd lost their bloody mind.

Why on earth would anyone want to sit in someone else's dirt and used soap?! ----

Doingtheboxerbeat · 04/02/2026 19:57

I hate wasting water, especially hot water so I'm thrilled I live alone because absolutely not 🤭.

FuzzyWolf · 04/02/2026 19:57

No, we don’t do it. I suppose some people are on water meters and need to save money or are just generally more conscientious about things.

Then again, neither DH nor I typically have baths and the children tend to be covered in mud all year round.

G5000 · 04/02/2026 19:58

absolutely grim

whattheysay · 04/02/2026 19:59

It seems to be normal but I would never do it it’s really grim. I don’t even like sitting in my own bath water let alone someone else’s

JayJayj · 04/02/2026 20:00

It’s something we’ve always done in my family. With my husband, I don’t get in after him because he’s probably dirty from work. He won’t share mine if I’ve shaved my legs. Otherwise I think it’s pretty normal.

AtomicBlondeRose · 04/02/2026 20:01

Yes, our shower is a bit crap so we mostly have baths and therefore are often just going for a quick dunk rather than a luxurious wallow - so if it’s still hot and pretty clean I’ll offer it to DD who usually takes me up on the offer. I top it up with fresh hot water and add a bit more foam bath to make it more appealing! I’ll go in after her as well. It’s not every time and we have plenty of baths all to ourselves but every so often I don’t see the problem with it.

FMLGFastMovingLuxuryGoods · 04/02/2026 20:01

Completely grim

Mathsdebator · 04/02/2026 20:01

Our friends do this. Her first then their ds, then the dh. They offered my ds 3rd place once when he stayed

He declined 🤣

TammySue · 04/02/2026 20:06

It’s never come up 🤔

Husband hates bath so would be neither offering up his bath water or using someone else’s.
I don’t fully trust my toddler not to have done a wee in the bath and both kids still like to put bath water in their mouths and spit it around so I don’t want theirs.
I rarely bathe and it’s a big, very hot, bath bomb bath that I usually jump in the shower after to wash my hair. The actual bath experience is spa vibes so I’m not exactly hopping out and offering it to someone whilst I run past them in a towel.
