Sharing bath water

Just that really.
For what it is worth we have a massive roll top bath which takes 15 minutes to fill
I usually offer out to rest of family when I am done.
is that okay or grim?

A bit of a double standard one from me but I could get in the bath with DH but the idea of getting in his bath water I find totally grim

Take the hint

Until he says stop offering, and it’s not some crank on MN being mean for the sake of it, I’ll carry on thanks 🙏

Ew! Gross!

Yup!
it still happens here - mum first (likes it hottest) then dad then me!
yes, I am of a certain age, but still live at home.
often my 2 children will get in with mum…

Have I misunderstood this? You’re an adult with 2 children of your own, but you still live at home and you and your kids share bath water with your parents?

That’s vile and so fucking weird. I really hope I’ve misunderstood or that you’re taking the piss.

As I said earlier, if you’re having sex with the person why worry about dead skin cells etc? They’re in the bed! So also are pubes and hairs and Willy germs if you’re going to do oral. How is that any cleaner than a shared bath?

Edited

I’m not having sex to get clean, though.

Jane143 · 06/02/2026 18:51

Why? How? Sex is far more intimate than a bath towel or bath water

But you don’t have sex to get clean Hmm

No, but my point is this. If you’re so worried there may be germs or skin cells from your husband on a shared towel or bath water, how is it suddenly ok to share the same germs etc during sex? You either feel yucky about them or you don’t. In my case I don’t.

G5000 · 07/02/2026 08:47

so considering it's all the same germs - if you're happy to kiss your husband, do you also share the same toothbrush?

Because you clean yourself afterwards

I don’t feel yucky about them but equally I wouldn’t use his dirty skin cells and sweat to wash myself 🥴

I want to be clean after a bath, I don’t want to sit in someone else’s dirty, sweaty water.

I’d say grim but I think baths full stop are grim. You just sit in your dirt sweat and dead cells.

And then wash them away afterwards.....

How do you wash them away afterwards? Don't most people just stand up and get dry?

Isthateveryonethen · 07/02/2026 12:31

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 04/02/2026 19:55

To me, that's absolutely foul, I had a instinctive recoil at the thought. If someone offered me their bathwater - DP / my parents / sibling I'd think they'd lost their bloody mind.

Why on earth would anyone want to sit in someone else's dirt and used soap?! ----

its so grim isn’t it?

MatriarchCaz · 07/02/2026 12:55

Lol all these people saying gross - bet they get in a swimming pool that have had all the germs in - also the sea which has no end of awful things in including dead bodies.

loislovesstewie · 07/02/2026 12:58

I don't use the sea or swimming pool to clean my body though. I shower afterwards to be clean.

Clarissaclaire · 07/02/2026 13:06

Some of you expressing revulsion, but how many of you have gotten into a hot tub with a bunch of friends?

My comment was aimed at all the people saying it was gross to get in water someone else had been in due to germs etc.

Sure, but you don't do those things to get clean, you go in a pool to swim or relax - then you wash afterwards.

I know, I'm pointing out that washing in used bathwater is gross. I would not feel clean. I don't expect sea water or a swimming pool to clean my body. I understand what's in it, so shower afterwards.

I rinse off in the shower with soap.

G5000 · 07/02/2026 13:23

But I am curious now, do people who are fine with sharing bath water also have a family toothbrush? All the same germs and saves money.

TittyGajillions · 07/02/2026 13:24

99pwithaflake · 07/02/2026 13:21

I rinse off in the shower with soap.

Thereby wasting more water, I don't get it shrug 🤷‍♀️

It's okay, you don't need to get it.

ThisCantBeRightCanIt · 07/02/2026 13:26

I will sometimes get in after my dc (2&4).
Me and dh have a bath together sometimes but this is more about the time together than saving water
