Why is what’s happening in Leicester secret?

I just saw a news alert about a very serious incident that happened last night in Leicester and the area is cordoned off with a heavy police presence. But there are no details available.

I don’t remember seeing a news story like this before where nothing about the actual incident is reported. Does this happen regularly and I’ve not noticed or is this quite unusual?

I hope it’s nothing too awful.

Stabbing. 18 yo man arrested.

Ah. I think we can guess why the secrecy

Dollymylove · 04/02/2026 11:37

It happened last night and was reported by GB News. Then it seemed to have been pulled. All the news site are saying is that there has been a serious incident in Leicester.
So what is it that they dont want us to know?

Other than prurient interest, why are you so bothered that you don't have all the details right now?

I’m not sure that prurient is the right word!

I am curious about why the news (which is normally reported in a particular way) has not been for this story. It just seems strange?

I honestly can’t, unless it’s a well known person?

There are stabbings everyday (sadly). Why would this one make the headlines and why, after nearly 20hrs, are they still not saying what happened?

Id understand no names but i cant fathom why they’re not releasing more?

Stabbing. 18 yo man arrested.

The man died, so fatal stabbing.

Blueskiesnotgrey · 04/02/2026 11:40

Another teenage student killed in one of our university cities by a knife (Noittingham couple of years ago, Southampton last year) breaks my heart. So young and done everything right at school to get to uni then killed in a minute by senseless knife violence, just tragic.

stopringingme · 04/02/2026 11:41

Man aged in his 20's was stabbed and died, 18 year old arrested on suspicion of murder and is in police custody.

BoredZelda · 04/02/2026 11:42

It is very common for “serious incidents” to be reported with no detail.

What a surprise. Male fucking violence. Again.

LavenderBlue19 · 04/02/2026 11:45

It will have been because of an ongoing police investigation - for whatever reason, they couldn't announce details until just now. Let the police get on with their jobs.

And to the dog whistle racists - why on earth would the 'demographic' be hidden in this instance, but not others? Details are often kept quiet while initial inquiries are made and relatives informed. That's all.

Fiftyandme · 04/02/2026 11:46

Police have just put out a statement and appeal for witnesses

AnyoneWhoHasAHeart · 04/02/2026 11:46

I find it far more odd that you’re looking to bring this out into the open somehow.

You do know that crimes happen all the time where there isn’t wall-to-wall coverage? Stabbings, muggings, drug dealers being arrested, most of which involve police cordons.

“18 year old stabbed” is hardly a major incident is it? Other than to his poor family who now have to also contend with the likes of you and others on social media wanting to turn this into some kind of mass event.

I don't know the area. What do you mean?

Keroppi · 04/02/2026 11:48

Strange! They don't want people to speculate but of course everyone's mind runs to terrorist attack or something.

They must have closed the centre in lockdown to try and capture the suspect? Perhaps it was a stabbing frenzy? Or maybe two students in a brawl.. they did ban pointed knives from their canteens a month or so ago!

It is very common for “serious incidents” to be reported with no detail.

It's not. Or at least not over this period.

There has at the very least been a lot of confusion as to what type of incident this is and so they've deliberately held off.

You don't usually wait overnight before getting a rough 'stabbing', 'x casualties', 'not seeking anyone else in connection with'.

TheSpidermanIsHavingMeForDinnerTonight · 04/02/2026 11:50

“18 year old stabbed” is hardly a major incident is it?

But initial reports which came out hours after the event described it as a "very serious incident" so yes it is in their own words.

BlushingBrightly · 04/02/2026 11:51

Weird that it happened last night but area is still closed. Worrying to think that maybe because a perpetrator is still at large - not saying they are, but surely evidence wouldn't be spread over that whole area requiring its closure?

I see this comment and the related "Doctor or Engineer?" all over social media at the moment and I find it deeply depressing and sad. It seems to have become absolutely acceptable to voice racist assumptions about any incident without waiting to hear the facts. It tells me so much about the kind of person you are that you can't even wait for the information to come through before you start gloating.

But they’re not reported in the news as being serious incidents without giving details are they? Violence is sadly far too common and I agree that it’s not all widely reported. I just saw the headlines and found it odd that it was being reported and yet not being reported at the same time.

I’m not sure what you mean about turning this into some kind of mass event? I have no desire to cause anything.

Serious, yes, unusual no

As others have said unfortunately stabbings are now ten a penny

Yeah she is worried. Some neighbours didn't send their kids to school as they're feeling a bit vulnerable. I did say that at least they don't appear to be searching for any perpetrators. Doesn't seem to be increased police presence in the surrounding areas either.

Why would you not send your kids to school?
