Why is what’s happening in Leicester secret?

I just saw a news alert about a very serious incident that happened last night in Leicester and the area is cordoned off with a heavy police presence. But there are no details available.

I don’t remember seeing a news story like this before where nothing about the actual incident is reported. Does this happen regularly and I’ve not noticed or is this quite unusual?

I hope it’s nothing too awful.

They tried to say it was over a parking dispute in the local news a few days later. One security man got in trouble for revealing the truth.

Absolute nonsense. In trouble with who? For what?

Were you there? I presume not. He leaked messages on social media regarding what happened.

That doesn’t answer the PP’s question though, who did he get into trouble with and what for?

Why did you assume it was a "secret?"

My original post explains why I found it strange.

It’s going to be reported on ITN news in 5 mins

It's been reported as a stabbing on BBC.co.uk since at least 7.15 this morning. Further info added as it happened. Where have you been looking for info?

I had a quick Google

Apparently on X there were false rumours spread that it was a terrorist attack. Perhaps that is what the security guard was spreading?

The information about it being a stabbing was not available until after I’d started this thread though on any news outlet.

He was suspended. I’ve already said because he was uploading screenshots of messages regarding the matter on social media.

I was there that day and they were plenty of car spaces. I find it hard to believe armed police would have a man pinned to the floor over a parking dispute.

Gggh · 04/02/2026 12:36

Agree.

Plus the media may be limited in what they can say if there is an arrest but not a charge. The age of the alleged attacker/s is another issue. It does not have to be some sort of conspiracy.

Edited

No one said it was a conspiracy. It’s perfectly normal and natural to wonder about crimes. Thats why there are millions of crime podcasts, films, books. Humans are naturally interested in activity that goes against our human nature.

We were wondering why there was lack of information. That doesn’t make us bad people. Or conspiracists.

I find your obsession with needing to know information before the authorities are ready to release it and the bereaved family being informed stranger.

You are ghouls. These are not just stories for your consumption. Someone has died. A family has lost a loved one. Have some decency.

If the perpetrator is an immigrant you will no doubt be back shouting it from the rooftops. If they're not, you won't be back to eat your words, will you? You'll slither away until next time you can appear on a thread about a crime and say it will have been an illegal immigrant. Its always a win in your eyes, because whatever the truth of the matter, you will have suceeded in shoehorning your anti immigration propaganda into someone else's tragedy, and got everyone thinking about immigrants rather than the death of a young man.

Jijithecat · 04/02/2026 13:40

A prime example of social media at it's worst. Once upon a time you would have been blissfully unaware.

You can believe what you want. I was parked in the same parking lot for most of the day where it occurred and was back and forth to the car. Many empty car spaces as there always is whenever I go.

I’m not sure why you think I’m obsessed. And you seem to have assumed quite a lot about my motivation!

To put it another way, why include a news article at all without providing any information if they haven’t yet told the next of kin?

Ah. I think we can guess why the secrecy

Why? There are regular stabbings, in London, and they’re reported, swiftly, even if they don’t give out names.

GrandmaMazur · 04/02/2026 13:42

We didn’t know someone had died.

We didn't know that someone had died, but we knew that it was being described as a "very serious incident".

There was no evidence of any attempt to keep the incident a secret. It was being reported by national news broadcasters and newspapers when you posted. Yes, the details were scant at the time because the police had not released further information at that point, but it was abundantly clear that more details would emerge as and when it was appropriate.

People need to understand that the police won't have the entertainment of the public as their primary priority in these cases. There are many reasons why they might delay putting detailed information into the public arena. Perhaps people should learn to be patient instead of leaping in to stir up suspicion and feed the conspiracy theories.

Hang on… you think a parking dispute can only happen when there aren’t very many spaces? I witnessed a parking dispute in a car park (with plenty of spaces) when someone pulled into a disabled space without having a blue badge. I witnessed another where someone reversed into a spot and hit the bumper of the car behind them. Why would you assume that it was a case of there not being enough places to park?

ForPearlViper · 04/02/2026 13:59

There are swarms of people posting on X about this incident some disingenuous, some explicit. They believe the police are withholding one key piece of information. The shade of skin of the alleged perpetrator. I don't think they are concerned about the victim. They are straining on the leash to find something that fits their agenda. This may be an innocent thread but then again....

It was the same with the Huntingdon train stabbings.

Yep, and on that occasion, the only "immigrant" in the story turned out to be the hero member of staff who had risked his life trying to protect others. Not quite the narrative that some of them were going for.

They won't learn because they are not interested in anything that doesn't support their message of hate.

De Montfort University student stabbed to death in Leicester with 18-year-old arrested on suspicion of murder.

Awful.
