To think I should go to minor injuries?

DH says probably nothing! I am a bit concerned myself.
These are my symptoms:
Random prodding pain in upper back
On Sunday evening, I was driving and I suddenly felt a pulsating, deep pain in the side of my lower back. This came in waves varying from uncomfortable to a sudden shock of pain which would make me groan out loud, for around 5 hours until I went to sleep. Since then, it has happened twice but only for around 15minutes at a time.
I have also been having stomach pain, almost like a burning feeling on and off.
I have felt nauseous on and off yesterday and especially today

Should I go, or will they tell me to bugger off and stop wasting their time?!

Hey OP sounds similar to when i had gall stones/ gall bladder pain. Mine was linked to eating fatty food especially if i hadn't eaten any for a while. it is painful :-( , ring 111 if you haven't already and are still worried otherwise its GP for an ultrasound scan I think.
movement usually helps a bit also,
if it was anything really horrible they probably would have picked it up in the UTC/MIU
hope u feel better soon

I had similar one sided pain and shoulder pain with an ovarian cyst.

I’ve seen that these are common with endometriosis, which I have been looking into due to struggles with conceiving and other factors

You've mentioned anxiety a few times, you're almost gaslighting yourself and it's sad to read. I always tell my daughters to replace the word "anxiety" with "pain" when talking to medical professionals.
There is a well documented medical bias against women, and mentioning any psychological or emotional issue almost guarantees you won't be taken seriously.

Anxiety can be a physical response within your body to pain, infection, inflammation, other bodily disturbances.

Your symptoms sound like the pain I had with my gallbladder which I eventually had removed.

Mimimayhem18 · 03/02/2026 21:42

I think it could be severe trapped wind, it can be agonising! I get it really badly sometimes, I also have anxiety which causes me to gulps air sometimes and that is what causes it, especially if I’m stressed. Do you think you might be doing this?

Mamarama2u2 · 03/02/2026 21:44

It could be your gallbladder, especially the burning pain, nausea and shoulder pain. I’d get a 2nd opinion

I did do the online questionnaire when it first happened, and it said ‘seek help now’ with a list of my nearby a&e, but it was late at night and I stupidly told myself, I am probably being dramatic, if it’s still there in the morning I’ll go, and by the time I woke up it had died down a little. However it still hasn’t stopped entirely (although is less painful than Sundays) which is why I finally decided to go this afternoon. Thank you

It is so difficult to know what to do. I completely understand what you’re going through… try not to panic and just advocate for yourself if you feel you need to be checked again, sometimes second opinions are needed. Do you have a fever or high heart rate? They would be indicative of an infection. It’s really difficult because anxiety makes everything feel so much worse.

Mycatislickinghisbum · 03/02/2026 21:47

I had these symptoms once. Started off I felt generally unwell. Next it was sudden pain in my back which I thought was trapped wind. Later I could stand the pain no longer and my partner at that time called an ambulance, they asked when my last period was and replied that I'd not long had an early miscarriage . It turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy.

Gaslighting myself in which way?

That's certainly possible. Whenever I had anything endometriosis related flaring up I'd feel it under my shoulder blade too. A cyst is easy enough to diagnose but endometriosis is trickier.

I’m a Registered Nurse - get yourself to an A & E department asap. Please do not delay this may be something serious or it may not. But you can’t take chances.

Emma6cat · 03/02/2026 22:02

could it be gallstones?

wrongthinker · 03/02/2026 22:07

No one on here is going to be able to tell you what's going on, OP. With the symptoms you describe it could be anything from trapped wind to a heart attack. I think you should go to A&E and get checked out properly.

HollaHolla · 03/02/2026 22:10

From experience, when I've had kidney stones, I knew ALL about it. Like, cold sweat, vomiting, not able to tell you what my own name is, etc. I understand there's similar symptoms with gallstones.

Did they check with you that it wasn't back pain in itself? For example, can you make it feel a bit better by moving certain ways, etc.? Does it feel a bit like sciatica? If so, it could be a bit of disc touching a nerve (bulging/herniated - used to be called slipped - disc.) You can get a fair bit of referred pain from that. But, it wouldn't really move about your back from upper to lower, etc.

I'd say to persevere with 111, and to push if it's genuinely intolerable; and if you can't get on top of it, is there somewhere you can go (I know different areas have different facilities), where they might at least be able to assess whether it's muscular, for example - and you could get onto a physio for some relief.

Best of luck in getting to the bottom of it. Chronic, constant pain is miserable.

isthisevenreallife · 03/02/2026 22:10

I had horrible stomach and back pain, that also went up into my shoulder blade, when I had Gallstones.

How long can trapped wind last for? And would it cause the severe pain I had on Sunday in my flank area? It was on the back of my love handles Blush

Well over a week for me. It was a similar sort of pain to what you are describing.

Rational response. 👏

Minor injuries is not appropriate. The clue is in the name...minor injuries. I once got told off for going there with an agonising and painful swollen arthritic knee. There was nothing they could do for me.
You should call your GP surgery or get advise from 111.

Periperi2025 · 03/02/2026 22:25

GP tomorrow morning.
If you are out walking the dog it is not an out of hours emergency.

Chatterbox74 · 03/02/2026 22:26

I had pain like this to the point i thought i was even having a heart attack- turned out to be gall stones..

Can I ask what I have done to offend you?

You posted a thread, OP. Some posters just live for making somebody else’s life unnecessarily miserable. Best ignored…

Bedtimeread · 03/02/2026 22:59

You can get shoulder pain with an ectopic pregnancy, which can also come up neg on a test. I noticed you said you were TTC. I think it would be best to go to A&E and rule out anything more sinister, our urgent treatment centres are run by GP’s which is not great for things like this. Hope you are ok x

seriouslynonames · 03/02/2026 23:10

Negative dip on urine sample doesn't rule out UTI. My last 2 have been negative on dip at GP but samples sent off and both times I needed a week of antibiotics (amoxicillin not the usual nitrofurantoin etc).

Definitely get yourself checked out, I hope you get sorted soon

Forenspy · 03/02/2026 16:31

Yes, an urgent treatment centre! Sorry. Just wanted to make it clear that I’m not suggesting I go to A&E!

If it’s a kidney infection or stones, you need a&e. It’s not a minor injury or GP situation. You need scans and blood tests which can only be done at hospital. I got sepsis waiting for my GP to try various oral antibiotics.
