🤣 We went to Croydon! We took the kids to an escape room and had lunch out. That's enough for me in January!

Croydon?

You spoil those kids.

SpiritOfEcstasy · 29/01/2026 02:20

I’ve been to see ABBA voyage, Wicked and Hamilton. I was working in London since just before Christmas and my DD15 is a musical theatre fan. She also went to see Into The Woods & The Book of Mormon but I roped my sister in for those. I can’t stand musicals 😂

Monty27 · 29/01/2026 02:27

I've been to lidl and aldi to get store cupboard stuff. It's only January. I've a guest arriving in 2 weeks so I hope to make plans after that.

SocksAndTheCity · 29/01/2026 02:35

I've been to the Winter Light Trail at Canary Wharf and I have a ticket for Underworld at Brixton in a couple of weeks 😀

Nugg · 29/01/2026 03:15

Had a spa break and 5 days in Krakow. About to head off to Liverpool for a long weekend.

Ruthietuthie · 29/01/2026 03:20

We went to the Fairmont Springs hotel in Banff, Canada, for a few days. It was utterly gorgeous and incredibly relaxing.

GlindaGossamer · 29/01/2026 03:28

Currently on a very nice 2 week holiday but specifically because it's the only time of year my boyfriend can take a big chunk of time off. Prob won't do anything in the summer except pos a bit of camping.

TheToothFairy999 · 29/01/2026 04:05

We had a few days in London just before Christmas. After that, it was the first time since Covid we had nothing booked, but we had a lot on and both our passports needed renewing. Nothing was really exciting us enough to book either. Got the new passports on Jan 8th. Jan 10th booked a few days in Madrid DH has always wanted to see Guernica, so we have an apartment right in the city centre. Flights only cost £85 for both of us, That's in 2 weeks. Our last year main summer break was in a beautiful, small town in Greece, but it was a long way from anywhere - nearly 2 hours to Thessaloniki, for an interesting day out. So for this year we have booked a hotel, half an hour from Portugal, on the local train, so really looking forward to that. Autumn will probably go to SILs who has recently moved to the Dordogne, so will stay there fir a few days, hire a car, and tour round, booking as we go. We usually stay in small, unpretentious, hotels and apartments (cheap), France has some really interesting places.

AgentJohnson · 29/01/2026 07:09

My credit card is still recovering from Christmas! Going to Japan and Z-Korea in the summer (have already saved for this) so I will do my very best to resist planning anything else but I do find myself looking at Eurostar snap for a cheap last minute to London.

boundarysponge · 29/01/2026 07:39

January to me is all about (as previous Pp said), blustery walks, crafting, a couple of good books and lots of cooking. We always do Veganuary.
Apart from a few trips to the cinema I’m quite happy with a restricted life, thankful to keep cosy at home. It’s also a planning month so have booked a holiday, theatre tickets and a couple of weekends away for later in the year.

Simonjt · 29/01/2026 08:57

The only reason we do something in January as its my birthday, we had a quick childfree trip to the UK for a weekend.

zingally · 29/01/2026 10:28

Nope, and nothing planned.

As it currently stands, we probably won't go away at all this year - bar perhaps a weekend somewhere in England in the summer months.
We're saving up for a "big" holiday to a yet-to-be-decided-location in 2027.

SnowFrogJelly · 29/01/2026 10:34

Having a few days in the Canaries soon.. can’t wait!

PositiveLife · 29/01/2026 10:48

Had a weekend away but just visiting family so very little cost. Been to a gig and a couple of other experiences.
Got a lot of things booked over the next few months.

ProfessorLeveretGrey · 29/01/2026 10:54

Nothing really. Two cinema trips as DS2 is a film buff. I booked our summer holiday - we are going to Australia for a family wedding so it's their winter. It's costing mega bucks because DS1 has some medical issues that can only be catered to by some airlines.

Mintyhotchocolate · 29/01/2026 12:16

We usually hibernate for January - taking time to enjoy all the presents from Christmas (books, games, Lego sets, crafts etc) although we did do one trip to the local arcade and bowling complex with lunch out. The kids are both back at their activities so they’re still fairly busy and we go for walks/potter around the farmers market so we’re not total recluses.

We’ve already booked our trips for the year: Lake District at half term, Lake Garda at Easter, Northumberland and Suffolk in the summer…might end up with a little break in October if eldest ends up doing an NYO Inspire event again but it depends on where it is (last year was Brighton so we just went for a night). The eldest is also going to the south of France with school in October so we’re paying for that as well so I think that’s plenty!

If some people do more then that’s lovely for them - I don’t think we’re behind. We’ll also have various concerts/dance shows with the children performing, and we usually have one or two big days out a month so I think we have a good mix of stuff that suits us 🙂

Bippertyboo2 · 29/01/2026 12:21

We should have been coming to the end of our second week in Mexico but DH was diagnosed with DVTs four days before we were meant to travel.

Leo800 · 29/01/2026 12:25

We went abroad for a week at the start of January. We’ve got a weekend away & nice restaurant booked start of Feb.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 29/01/2026 12:32

Been on holiday where it's warm since early December

SpryLilacBird · 29/01/2026 21:37

Ooooo, I'm jealous of all these fabulous holidays!

We've had a very quiet January. No holidays and no days out yet.
We have got a day out planned this Saturday - museum, theatre and dinner.
And I had a girls night out mid-January.

What holidays and days out do you have planned for the upcoming months OP?

EcoCustard · 29/01/2026 22:02

I had an October half term break & panto at Christmas. I’m off for 2 nights to a premier Inn with DS6 this weekend-can’t wait. Other than a day trip to London in half term I’ve nothing planned yet.

Mathsbabe · 29/01/2026 22:07

We’ve started a pottery course. Done 3 of 8 weeks. Love it.
