In tears in the restaurant bathroom.. TW: Periods

mygodd · 24/01/2026 11:52

I know this is probably stupid but here goes.

come out this afternoon for a really special celebratory meal with my DH and his family.

I am currently on my period, however when I woke up this morning I woke up in a pool of blood. My underwear, pyjamas, bed linen - all of it was ruined. I’m sorry this is probably TMI. I didn’t have much pain, just surprised me.

Anyway - I am currently in said restaurant and I’m really struggling. My stomach is cramping beyond belief, literally one wave after the other and I can feel ‘gushes’ (I’m sorry Blush)

I excused myself to come to the bathroom and literally cannot get off the toilet. I’ve been in here over half an hour and have text. DH to please explain to his parents I’m not feeling well.

My stomach is literally agony and I feel like I could pass out from the waves of cramps. Literally one after the other and the bleeding has gotten really heavy again.

I am on the implant so whilst I do get ‘periods’ they can sometimes be irregular / I skip them.

I am sorry this is probably TMI but I’m in so much pain I’m just doubled over and can barely move. I don’t know if this is normal or not. 😩

Thanks everyone. I just didn’t want to upset anyone if they click into the post and didn’t expect me to be talking about blood.

I have been through around a tampon an hour since this morning. But I didn’t have any kind of pain this morning.

Now I have constant cramping.

Going to ask my DH to go out to grab me some paracetamol & pads. I just feel bad for ruining the meal.

I had this, called the 111 equivalent and they said if it's more than 1 tampon every 2h,
then go to A&E (I also had clot-type thigs coming out... and gawwwdd, I hated the 'gushing'!). They did an internal scan (all fine), then booked me in with a regular gynaecologist. Who also did an internal scan, smear test and a biopsy.

Better to get checked out. That was last month - I'd also had around 40 days of mostly bleeding, this month I've just finished a nice, normal 5 day period... so WTAF happened to my body in December!?!

Hope it's better soon.

Op is in hospital and you wouldn't take aspirin if you're bleeding hesvily

Yes as I said I hadn’t read the whole thread and I obviously meant aspirin before the whole bleeding episode

Mirox1414 · 24/01/2026 23:01

The internet is literally mental, I can't believe this woman came to MUMSNET with this instead of 999 or 111

Like literally wtf is happening to the world?!

This has to be attention seeking because there's just no way anyone is bleeding out in a restaurant toilet and casually typing in a forum🤣🤣🤣

That's enough internet for me today

@Mirox1414 people come here all the time for advice.

I do because I can't get medical help instantly and whilst I'm waiting mumsnet helps a great deal.

I've had incredible advice here and many posters have whilst actually in our shitty hospitals helping them advocate and navigate our awful nhs

Bless you OP, well done for going to hospital, glad you've been seen and you're being investigated, hope it's all up from here x

This.
How traumatic for you Op. wishing you a speedy recovery.

ManyATrueWord · 24/01/2026 23:20

@Mirox1414 You get a much faster response from Mumsnet than you do from 111. You also get a lot more knowledge shared than you do from a call centre person following a script designed to make you go away.

QuickPeachPoet · 24/01/2026 23:24

This sounds horrendous OP
I hope they can sort you out. You shouldn't have to put up with this.

Stop yapping

If she was bleeding that much, she might have been worried and not had a totally pragmatic/logistical head on? Hardly that difficult to understand that people do silly things in the moment.

From OP’s posts she simultaneously kept her family and the restaurant updated so she got support in the end. I don’t think she was expecting mumsnet to telepathically summon an ambulance? Just more so some moral support whilst she was waiting for support IRL.

I don’t think 111 wants to make people go away at all. They’re incredibly risk averse and it’s more the opposite where they offer out ambulances to be safe, as opposed to trying to fob people off.

But this isn't medical help bab... it's inexperienced people on the internet, I'm all for seeking advice and think this is a great forum for that. But not for something like this, the poor woman could have been haemorrhaging and this was her first port of call.

It's actually frightening.

My word… I am so sorry this happened to you. It sounds petrifying. Sending lots of love. I’m glad you’re safe in hospital.

Worralorra · 24/01/2026 23:41

I had similar issues just before menopause. Had to leave work one day and had an horrific experience at an hotel abroad where I ended up washing the sheet and turning the mattress as I had flooded so badly while asleep. Luckily that seemed to be the last few periods I had. If you’re not expecting menopause (I was in my 50’s) you should seek medical help though.

Not everyone is close to their in-laws and her DH was aware but stayed with his parents instead of seeing to op for more than 30 minutes. It's easier to ask strangers on Mumsnet for real time advice than interrupt a family meal with in-laws about a heavy period (which turned out to be much more sinister needing a hospital admissions). Have some empathy and understanding of different people's reactions to situations.

Lucky you. You clearly haven't experienced years of the NHS not taking menstrual pain and flooding (to the point of not being able to leave the bathroom) seriously.

Exactly the reason we downplay and second guess our symptoms.

LBFseBrom · 25/01/2026 00:15

You don't have to keep saying you're sorry, you're sharing with us and every one here will sympathise with you, many will have experienced similar at various tmes and it really is awful ! I am sorry you are going through it.

A visit to your doctor is needed to find the cause and possibly change your implant but you won't know until you're investigated.

Bless you, what happened next? You may have said, I haven't read all but will now.

Don't leave this, it needs investigation and could aasily happen again. It could be put right easily too, hang on to that thought.

If you're such a thinker, have you ever thought about clicking "see all" of OP's posts before posting an idiotic reply?

Why didn't you just read it in the first place, it's not particularly long 😳

Pryceosh1987 · 25/01/2026 01:08

Period pains happen to alot of women. I think its best to check with the doctor, and try painkillers in the meantime.
