I think he has finally lost any marbles he had in his tiny little brain!

I’m going to listen & you’re most certainly probably correct but in truth the European leaders do need a dressing down so it’s probably the one thing I’ll be nodding along to

OK fair enough, let us know what you think!🤗

Boolabus · 22/01/2026 09:17

NoisyViewer · 22/01/2026 09:11

Where did I state I was ok with trump wanting Greenland?

I didn’t so I’d appreciate you not assuming. I just said I didn’t believe it was a tactic to divert the Epstein scandal. How you came to that conclusion shows insular your mind works that any defence on Trump intentions means I must be in favour of his actions. No, that’s ridiculous assumption, I was purely stating the truth how I see it.

Apologies I assumed you were trying to legitimise his actions. Tbf your posts do read as though you are supportive of his actions. I think listing his "achievements" in your previous post can suggest you agree with how he operates. I personally do not agree with his methods so if he does achieve anything by using those tactics I do not view it as a positive

esperanza5 · 22/01/2026 09:21

He makes the likes of Mark Carney and the European leaders appear as the height of reason and statesman-like integrity by comparison. No mean feat.

European leaders do need a dressing down
What from the big leader Trump? They are leaders of independent soverign states it is not Trumps role to behave as if he is superior to them which he continually does. That is not how diplomacy works or foreign relations work as I previously siad he is treating America like Trump inc. You said you haven't listened to his speech so maybe read the transcript and come back to us when you have. Frankly a man who places Putin on a Board of peace is not to be trusted, listened to or view respected.

Why? He’s bought industry back, their stock markets are booming, he’s reduced the cost of pharmaceuticals, stopped Illegal immigration, reduced pharmaceuticals prices, has stopped government wastage, exposed corruption, pays less into NATO, is currently passing a bill stopping big companies buying up single occupancy & first homes & bought gas prices down. He is America first hence why the European leaders don’t like him because it means we have to pay more for the things America had subsidised. Whilst his approval rated has dropped in America if an election was run tomorrow he’d still win.

LOL. Groceries and healthcare are at all-time highs right now.

is currently passing a bill stopping big companies buying up single occupancy & first homes
This is literally what his son-in-law Jared Kushner does. He’s a notorious slumlord. The “bill” is probably just a bunch of hot air—he’s not likely to stop Ivanka’s husband’s income.

Is this an attempt at satire?

So many people actually seem to have swallowed the coolaid and believe thie bollocks that my radar is breaking.

Apologies if already mentioned but I thought Rutte’s reprimand re Afghanistan was brilliant. Firm, fair and direct. Made Trump look like a bit of an idiot.

I’m resentful of this narrative that European countries are freeloaders, riding on the coat tails of the States but failing to show up when needed. We’ve done nothing but show up - WW2, Iraq, Afghanistan, heavy human price paid as well as heavy financial price. The States made us pay them back for WW2 but guess what, we didn’t receive a penny for assisting them in their ill conceived ‘mission’ in the ME 🙄

They then have the nerve to criticise our levels of immigration when they were the ones desperate to destabilise the countries which then resulted in that immigration.

Good for Rutte

Indeed, and let's not forget that the ill-conceived 'missions' as you call them (well, Iraq really) massively contributed to depleting our military - the very thing this infuriating administration is berating us for. They are truly awful. It's like an abusive relationship.

It is an abusive relationship because Trump can’t conceive of any other kind of relationship.

YourBrickTiger · 22/01/2026 09:11

I listened to it live and I assure you it was bloody bonkers, made no sense whatsoever and was fairly insulting not only to past presidents but to most of the people in the room.

If the problem was just the ‘context’ tbe press sec would not have felt the need to lie about what he said. We are way beyond ‘context’.

Has he given up the idea of Greenland then? Was it all just a threat?

The problem with the "flattery" approach the EU was going for before was it confirms the idea the US does everything and therefore the sense of grievance.
Either they say "yes yes America is responsible for everything and we are freeloaders" = grievance or "no actually...= Rage". You can't win. All you can do is grey rock and edge away slowly.

He is 50% mafia boss and 50% wwe character, so he will keep finding ways to demand that countries kiss the ring and none of it will make sense.

What polls are you looking at?

The polls from the fairyland @NoisyViewer just described, which bears not the slightest relation to reality.

As long as we don't have to kiss HIS ring, I'm good.

No-one is sure.

Head of Nato spoke to him and he seemed happy with not owning it saying he had a deal but last night I saw several pundits point out head of Nato doesn't represent Denmark or Greenland so what can he promise. He may have pointed out there is a treaty that gives them a hell of a lot of power and control existing already - but till the details emerge no-one sure what they hell he thinks he's got he didn't have before.

Also saw suggestion that it was combination of Europesn threatening extreme economic actions - people walking out of other US presentations and whole Greenland thing being very unpopular in US menaing he backing away form ownership for now.

Apparently he also said no deal is done and will always be open to re-negotiation when he decides - prompting many to think what's the point of any agreement with him at all.

This is comedy gold apart from the fact that this clown is running the world 😱

If it were fiction it would be dismissed as too remote from any conceivable reality.

I think the stock markets completely tanking after his threats might have had something to do with him needing to find a way to TACO while saving (his orange) face.

I think the relationships board is informative

“We agreed that this Christmas xxxx but xxxx just doesn’t listen and keeps going on about xxxx and has said they will xxxx”

(idea: international affairs negotiated on AIBU? Although I don’t think going nc/lLTB are options)

I feel soooo sorry for the Americans. They have a sick child for a president, making himself (and the USA) ludicrous on the world stage. He doesn't have even the vaguest grip of what is going on. He's laughable.

Can someone please explain the difference between Iceland and Greenland, and between Denmark and Norway to the demented old sod.

It'll be a long time before anyone can take the USA seriously again.

Well I received nice abuse from our American allied friends online when talking about Greenland. Told to get to fuck and that my nation is weak and we've done f all for America.

They voted him in.

He's a reflection of their society. In the same way whoever we vote *for is a reflection of ours.

Some Americans are shockingly rude and their language is just so aggressive, arrogant and frankly vile.

Just don’t forget that 48% of the votes were for the Democrats, that’s a sizeable number of people. I would be mortified to be represented by MAGA and their thick bully boys, so I feel for them. The whole thing must be a nightmare. At least we are being well represented on the world stage and aren’t insulting friends left right and centre.

True - missed that one.

I think it's gone over badly all round and he's walking back as fast as he can while trying to face save.

Saw BBC article NATO head said he didn't discuss sovereignty and Denmark and Greenland say they aren't budging on it - so who knows what he thinks he got or can make out he's got to his base.

Meanwhile in other news, the Clintons are in a spot of bother. What coincedental timing:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckgxxw0wx44o

I think they’re both on the Epstein files—Trump and Clinton. What size don’t get, however, is why “nobody is above the law” doesn’t apply to both men on the matter. 🧐

Whatafustercluck · 22/01/2026 13:28

The US is currently.the laughing stock of the world. Yesterday's speech was like watching your drunk, senile, incontinent old uncle fill his commode while eating his Christmas dinner. Only worse.
